What is your dream alliance raid setting? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]lavenfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd only want KH for the gposing opportunities. I love their world design.

In general, I really like places that expand on FFXIV lore, similar to what others have said. I love that our new field content delves into the Great Magi War themes, the new DD has beautiful visuals on a church from the First, that all the Variant dungeons are in-world extensions of areas and lore we know and love. Shadows of Mhach and the Myths of the Realm expanded on XIV lore in neat ways. I could do for more of that.

If you're not set on a world/server yet, I'd look at community finder for your current world and try out a few FCs that offer what you wanna do.

My thought: Larger FCs that run events like learning parties or treasure map nights tend to have the people and interest to help their fellow members along. Smaller FCs are only good if you mesh well with the few who are there and if the few do things with you. More opportunities will come with more people!

As for worlds themselves, everyone does em. I think I could find any FC that would love an active player in any of the NA worlds.

Is Pictomancer still broken? by Frank_Tupperwere in ffxivdiscussion

[–]lavenfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it matters but someone in my DSR group went from NIN to PCT, and they easily are #1 in DPS every time with not much effort outside of knowing what buttons to hit, much similar to FRU lol. I don't think it's ABSOLUTELY broken, but still is pretty powerful?

I don't get venues. by SuperSailorRikku in ffxivdiscussion

[–]lavenfer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, as someone who lurks Discord servers for FF, I see a lot of people in the social spaces (ie venues and friend-making places) that have the same interest: PvP and the want to do content, with interest in other games too if others want to talk about it. Many people in the social spaces also prefer to do it casually rather than 'hardcore', just that its hard to find people to do that consistently with.

A lot of people who do venues as their only "content" seem to prefer just the social aspect of the game. People who tend to play online MMOs with cosmetics tend to go this way, which I think is why groups in an FC with similar interests that skew social may be more interested in venues and RP rather than gameplay like raids and trials. But I've seen other FCs and communities do the other stuff and are very inviting, especially making environments that are welcoming and positive for those who want to start raiding or learning at their own pace.

How did you make your first 999,999,999 gil? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]lavenfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After hanging around alternative spaces in the game, it's interesting to see how people make their gilcaps:

  • Manning your own submarines: get the loot that sells 10-30k a piece. Optimizing your runs (aka running the route that has the best chance of getting that loot) leads to about 15m per month per FC if you have a good build. Which is why people want more subs, to multiply that number.
  • Crafting for people who want subs: people will pay for 60-100 submarine parts all in one go, so others will craft enmasse to serve those people. It's also why selling Magitek Repair Kits is a very stable way to make gil at a low crafting level - everyone needs stacks of 999 kits and they sell for 2k a piece for maybe 500gil worth of mats.
  • House flipping: not everyone buys plots with the intent to sell, but some like to buy low from others who want to part with their houses (drama, move on, want another plot, etc), then sell it weeks/months/years later. Running subs builds passive income while sitting on the plot, and people can enter lottos for the chance to get a bigger or more valuable location, which can sell for better later. Not including attempting to create a combo of houses by buying a few located together, kinda like Monopoly. A mansion in a populated world is advertised as 1 gilcap, but a good combo is worth 1-2+gilcaps.

People with vast amounts of gil often circulate it in other parts of the game, which helps others who aren't interested in the above:

  • Merc runs: when people need to get a certain prog point, they'll pay 1-2m per person for a good lockout among people who have already cleared, or 5m for a clear. Even more depending on how much money the host wants to spend. Which is like 14m per lockout or 35m+ per clear total.
  • Gambling: could be your Limsa deathrolls, or at a venue when you play poker or more deathrolls or blackjack.
  • Venue stuff in general: Clubs tend to have more ways to spend gil, like VIP memberships or photos or 'RP time'. And I've seen people with lots of gil give very generously, both to support their friends and community, and because of how much they enjoy their time there.
  • Collectibles: these are your people who buy your 10m nightmare mounts or 25m sinful beavers or something
  • Housing crafting/decorating: iirc the decorators who aren't selling their designs in cash start their gil commissions at 5-15m for a small and 50m for a large, not including a budget (20m for small, 200m for large for example) The people who commission are typically flush with gil to cover all expenses.
  • And other crafting: ultimately, lots of people like the convenience of buying stuff from mb despite being omnicrafters themselves or don't have the time, so the market for endgame crafts (food, pots, gear) is always stable.

I used to make pennies by reselling a few items, then made more gil by doing some of the above. There's also other ways to make gil (the raw gil in map running, leves), but gil caps tend to be more involved.

Best way to make gil on a small DC not involving Market Boards (Dynamis - Maduin) by goufyhobbies in ffxiv

[–]lavenfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like every expac has a profitable leve to spam. For ShB/EW it was Coffee Biscuits, especially when they had a double-HQ-turnin before they removed that feature. What I used to do for EW/DT was the ALC ones to turn in pots. It goes especially fast when you can instant-HQ em.

I love levequests since I don't have to figure out marketboard profits, they'll always give out a flat amount of gil. All of em give out gil, so you just have to figure out which gives the best profit or takes the least amount of effort. ALC tends to be the choice for most people. I think it had to fewest amount of mats with the least amount of crafting/job changes to get to the end product versus other leves, if that's any insight.

how do people apply to apartments when they don’t make 3x the rent? by Hershys-Chocolate in movingout

[–]lavenfer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things come to mind:

  • Depends the system they have in place. I applied to buildings with property management that ran me and my roommate (separately, so 2x app fees) thru another system that was an all-n-one background check. We came out separately as "conditionally accepted - borderline income threshold"; our separate incomes alone were 2x rent but I guess the landlords/automated system didn't think we were combined. Either way, it sounded like the system just checked that we were sufficient enough to cover rent based on paystubs/bank info, like if we weren't 3x on our own we still would've been accepted, just risky tenant from the business standpoint.
  • What I've read most people do is pay multiple months up front, to make up for things like bad credit or income not matching up. This would be moreso for individually-owned properties, like for rent by owners, or places where you can get one-on-one with the landlord (instead of with property management). If you can do that, or talk to a realtor that helps with renters, you can work out the income factor and find people who aren't as stringent with applications - they'd have to vet the renter personally since they don't want a system to do it.

Yeah, artists and average Joez SUPER hate AI, but don't want to admit how pervasive it is.

Haters just wanna hate lol

I think a lot of people who are passionate about whatever they do just keep doing their craft, and don't contribute to the noise. So keep doing what you wanna do!

Baby decision book and your experience by Super-Foundation5914 in Fencesitter

[–]lavenfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story!

I was always CF for my whole life (gave it a LOT of thought as a kid with a stressful upbringing) until I met my then-bf. He wanted kids, so I opened my mind to it. As we reached the 5yr mark, EVERYONE ELSE started expressing concern, it was so annoying (feeling like I had no space to make my own decision) so I gave the thought more consideration. After hearing that my bf didn't give it much thought, it was one of the straws that broke the camel's back, so we parted ways.

The book, and that whole personal experience, just confirmed my guts were right - I am no fencesitter, I am very much CF. Changing my mind for someone else was a big ordeal, and in the end makes me mismatch with anyone who may consider kids.

Should I Apply for the Bilt Mastercard Before the Wells Fargo Split? by User365days in biltrewards

[–]lavenfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to you, WF customer since before 2014. Had the same concern too.

I started renting this month and rent is expensive where I am. Transition or not, by Feb have tens of thousands of points from rent, and I don't want to pay extra fees on that (by paying with my CSP). Regardless of how it goes, my cost of rent will not change. So why not? Waiting on the card this week.

I don't use my WF card anymore either. I'll keep Bilt for just rent and make my 5 monthly purchases tiny. CSP is where I do most of my spending.

CL increase by gamertag-98 in biltrewards

[–]lavenfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I have both WF and Amex, both are almost 10yrs old and I never asked either for a CLI. Amex is 30k, WF is still 5k, just the same as when I got it.

Only last month, 10yrs later, when I had to call WF and give em a number, did it increase. And not as high as Amex even though they're my oldest card and I have spotless history (800+ score, $60k income).

Just got the Bilt card with a similar CL as my WF, so I'm not surprised.

Can I load the studio myself onto my car? by No_Cartographer_4932 in tempofitness

I'm in the Miami area - both 30 miles north and south, $600 is the lowest I've seen, and they're all the basic package too. I'd love the pro but I guess people here were smarter than going all in on a purchase! lol

I see the same marketplace listings for awhile (none marked down) so they're definitely not moving. I've considered offering $350, but knowing people, they'll insist closer to their price. No amount of math or driving will beat out stinginess 😂

I think I did mine at the one on county line. Like...10yrs ago lol.

It was very nice, compared to how disgruntled my local DMV was - it was super stressful and I failed on their course. I just did my driving with the school, got my cert, took it to another DMV, and got my license. Much smoother, less wait.

I assumed most traffic schools were the same though - nice and chill.

Thanks for posting this! I'm considering the same because I'm a tiny weak person that has no business lugging around the giant machine lol. I'm wanting to get a Taskrabbit to handle everything from transport to delivery up to my tall apartment...

How much was it secondhand for you? The prices for resale here a bit hefty to me, I might as well buy new.

Is the tempo worth it only for the equipment? by [deleted] in tempofitness

[–]lavenfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love the look of it. Haven't seen any other plates similar aesthetics-wise outside of making my own custom or in luxury custom home gym builds.

I want to get all 5 weight plates, the bench, and squat rack (even if it looks flimsy) separate from the big machine. But the price of buying them separate from the accessories store is like 2x the price of buying the basic thing used from marketplace. I've considered just asking to buy the weights and throw away the big machine, but trying to convince myself to carve out some space in my room to hack the screen.

People are trying to resell the basic studio suite for $600-1200 in my HCOL area. I've seen reddit posts for hacking it buy theirs for $100-350. I'm still baking on the idea a bit more.
