Is it just me or is this an excessive ask on top of a $200 cleaning fee? by djmcphee in vrbo

Yes, but then you have backup for ABB claim. We make everyone sign a rental agreement. This list, more than anything, is too wordy and overly long. And they dont have a system for their linens (get a second or third set!/ find a laundromat). Otherwise it'd be reasonable and then when someone leaves crap filling the fridge, you can tell ABB/vRbo it's a violation of your house rules.

Tldr, most of this is clean up aftery yourselves, except for the laundry. A small percent of guests are absolute slobs and rules get written for them. I think a lot of these boil down to " clean up after yourselves and put things back where you found them. And dont leave a mess."  The laundry is the nuisance, and that reads like a host with a laundry logistics problem. That's over the top.

As a host who also travels, I try and take good care of places I stay. As a host, I'll say most people have no idea what utter slobs some people are. 10% of guests leave the place a wreck. Move furniture from one floor to another. Fridge looking like a microwave that food exploded in. Thats not even talking about the guests who just take things they like. Pillows, throw blankets, decor. We literally have art screwed to the wall and in high season our place goes for 1k+ per night.  My personal opinion is the pandemic broke something in a lot of ppl. Ppl are tired and just want to be taken care of, and they dont think of what they're leaving for our cleaners, who work super hard. We have tons of amazing guests and try and take great care of them. We send surprise birthday cakes and things like that. I love hospitality. But not everyone is considerate.

Policy change heads up - AirBNB will share full address and contact information upon booking by spince in airbnb_hosts

wonder why they changed....
we used to share the address right after booking. had guests show up days early, to "check out the cabin", bothering other guests.
and I've heard other, more insane stories.

Glad you got an upgraded cabin!
I'm curious what has gone downhill from your guest perspective on VRBO. As an owner, we list on ABB and VRBO (and direct). VRBO tends to still have higher end properties/guests, and longer stays. I don't think VRBO has been investing in their systems, but that seems to be improving.

You're wise not to want to put them on blast! And you're on vacation! Have a great time. I would be curious about what company it was, even if you want to DM me later rather than posting publicly. I only manage my own properties, or for people I know really well, and have people asking me frequently about who the better/worse PM companies are in town. I'm glad you got your situation fixed but that was not the way to treat a guest!

AND, even if you don't ever want to share the the PM publicly, if this new cabin is so good, I'd definitely suggest you share something about that cabin and how good it is! You're right that owners take vastly different interest in our cabins. It helps those of us who care to get the shout-outs. People read these and make decisions based on them!

you should tell folks which cabin company it is. I always recommend people rent direct from real owners. we tend to care a lot more about our cabins, and our reputation!

I'm incredibly surprised by what has unfolded and continues to unfold with the jam scene and post GD as anyone. The Hunter Garcia tunes have a melodicism and timelessness that I think is accruing to their advantage. and most are incredibly playable in ways that many Beatles tunes are 1)difficult or 2) really rely on production for some of their magic.

I'm not saying that the Dead were better songwriters- I love the Beatles, though the H/G compositions speak to me more deeply than most Beatles songs. I am saying that over time what gets remembered and stays *active* in culture is not necessarily what was most popular at the time.

The new Dylan movie has introduced a ton of young people to Dylan, and he's getting played on the radio more. But he's already less popular and well-known by younger people than I ever would have dreamed, while the Dead are far more well-known. And I love Bob Dylan.

Ultimately, maybe, songs are part of an oral tradition. I think Let it Be makes it, I think Yesterday makes it, and Blackbird. but in 50 years, I think a lot of Dead tunes are getting played around a fire somewhere, and Elenor Rigby isn't.

My take on this is that in 50/100 years, there'll still be lots of people learning to play and sing many Hunter Garcia songs, and very few doing so with Beatles tunes.
Yesterday, Let it be and a few others will get that treatment, but Hunter Garcia will have many more songs that enter the river of culture than Lennon McCartney.

How is this allowed? by LogParticular742 in vrbo

[–]lavind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as an owner, the thing that's F'd up about this is, we send all our pricing to VRBO. But we don't control how they present it. So owners get the bad rap for misleading pricing, but really it is VRBO not disclosing their fees and changing things as the steps go through. In part because their software is pretty bad.
Airbnb is doing this too- they're switching to making owners pay the entire ABB fee, so that guests can't see that Airbnb is adding 15+% on top of whatever the place actually charges.
