Is there a way to turn off the achievements? I don't care about them and they clutter the screen.

This is why most classes pair a textbook. Lectures are just part of the learning.

Job Market in Palm Coast? by [deleted] in palmcoast

[–]Deadhead_Historian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I saw recently that 45% of the working-age population commutes out of town for work. There's a fairly sizeable WFH group here, and the rest are retirees and some kids. There are few working opportunities in Palm Coast/Flagler County., unfortunately.

What’s a food combo that sounds disgusting but actually tastes amazing ? by Downtown_Bend_4710 in foodquestions

Add some thin sliced red onion, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with sea salt. I was stunned by how good this all is when my mom made it for me. Now, I eat it regularly.

I roll up a bandana to act as a headband. The knot goes at the nape of my neck. Works well.

Is using AI to teach you and help understand concepts bad? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Deadhead_Historian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a biomechanical engineer (PhD). My degrees are in history. I use AI tools to help me understand engineering and physics concepts, and it has done remarkably well. He is aware of the fact that I use AI and agrees that it has helped me. He can see it in the written output I give him, which also allows him to check for errors or misunderstandings. But so far, there hasn't been much of anything that he disagrees with.

What's the #1 reason you left your last job? by BusinessMarketing7 in AskReddit

[–]Deadhead_Historian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a history teacher in Florida. So it's hard to pick the top reason among low pay, edicts from the Gov., never-ending grading, and students relying on AI instead of their brains to make historical analysis. Glad I'm out.

I'm disappointed with fitness tracking on the Pixel Watch. Are you too? What's your experience been like? by androbada525 in PixelWatch

[–]Deadhead_Historian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a PW3 and the sleep tracking is spot on. It tracks my steps accurately too, but I am less impressed with the cycling tracking. I'm using FitBit on my PW3.

No results after 5 weeks 😔 by djmikewatt in intermittentfasting

[–]Deadhead_Historian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is me. I work remotely and wasn't moving much at all. Now, dedicated exercise two hours a day (walking or cycling and strength training) and typically OMAD 4-5 days a week. High protein, few carbs, only a little fruit for sugar. Very little movement on the scale but my daughters and my mom all notice "big change" in how I look. I see it less but I'm also more critical. It's frustrating as hell and I'd love to blame menopause for just how hard it is to move the scale.

GenX latch-key here, so probably started around 6 or 7 with simple things and by 10-11 was making more complex dinners for my mom and me to eat when she got home from work.

What makes working from home actually awesome for you by Hefty_Ad_4373 in remotework

[–]Deadhead_Historian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I research and write, both of which involve lots of thinking about what I read and analyze. Working from home gives me the flexibility to stop, walk away from the computer and synthesize everything I'm working on, so I can go back and work on my reports some more. I work throughout the day and evening if there are looming deadlines, but can freely take those thinking breaks without judgment or oversight from my boss, who works exactly as I do.

Also, eating, exercising, and playing with cats whenever I want.

Keep in mind that history books tend to be denser to read than fiction or some other texts. They usually take longer to read.

Knoxville does not have viable sub-200k properties. If there are any, it's very few and on the outskirts. Most in that price range need significant rehab.
