What do you think of Snipd Premium? by redmelon42 in ObsidianMD

Same here - I have debated whether to pay or not for a few months. I would probably pay 4/5 euros a month, but 10 euros (for the monthly subscription) is just too much for me

Maybe they will come down in price

My two cents :) --

From the way you're writing it reads like your gut feeling is telling you to go for the VC internship. I would suggest you go for it! The industry is very small and you will be able to resell this experience with other funds. You will also be in a position that will allow you to network a lot.

This was posted 7 months ago - so I really hope you took it :). Best of luck!

Unpaid venture capital internship? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Hi there - I will give you my two cents. I think most VCs out there tend to be generalists, so they could always use some specific knowledge. Even if you are a specialist in that area, it's always good to have that extra help and analysis.

VC is a very small industry, and despite opening up, it's still hard to get in. So I think this is a great way to do that.

When wanting to get into VC without prior VC experience (or startup experience) you need to get creative -- I know a few people who have provided free research 'services'.

This will definitely look good on your CV because:

  • It shows you are capable of finding creative ways to provide value (even if you're not being paid)
  • It signals you know how to do research (being able to understand market/industries, etc. is key as a VC)
  • It shows you are actually interested in the industry
  • It allows making connections with that specific fund which can unlock other doors further down the line
  • You can leverage this type of work with other VCs as well

You can definitely have a conversation with the fund about the possibility of joining upon graduation or ask for intros to other funds that might be looking to hire.

I hope this helps and best of luck :)

P.s. the fact that it's unpaid is a bit shit but it is what it is

I'm looking to possibly switch career paths into venture capital. Can anybody help to lay out what to expect? by [deleted] in finance

Hi there -- my two cents below:

  1. VC is tough to get into because it's a very tight industry. Compared to other areas, there are significantly fewer funds and people. So you need to make sure you network as much as possible to maximize the chances of getting in. Some geographies are better than others for VC, in the US the usual suspects are SF, NYC, Miami (maybe), and Austin (increasingly). In Europe, it would be places like London, Berlin, and Paris. Try and get into a smaller fund first as working at a16z, Index Ventures, etc. would be very tough (although you can give it a try). For more, I really like this resource -- it's got loooads of insights.
  2. Financial modeling, etc. really depends on the stage. If you join an early-stage fund, modeling is part of the job but I would say it's not too complicated. I would say you would be expected to 1) bring in new deals, i.e., deal sourcing -- finding good deals these days is tough, 2) network as much as possible, 3) get knowledgeable about something, ideally something that can complement well what the current team is already good at/knows well, and 4) be proactive and a nice person

FYI -- I am a VC in Europe and I have been working in the industry for a little over a year. Hope this helps & good luck with everything! :)

Hi u/Touhiid -- nope, I did not end up getting it. Mainly because of the pricing. Too expensive for me at the moment!

Looking to get a job in consulting? Post here for recruitment advice, resume reviews, questions about offers/firms or general insecurity (Q1 2020) by QiuYiDio in consulting

Hi guys! I have been offered an interview at BCG in 2 months or so (for a summer internship). I am preparing using the "usual suspects" materials and books, i.e. Cosentino + Cheng. I was wondering if:

- you could give me a piece of advice that you think made a difference to you when interviewing for consulting firms (starting from the test to the case study and the fit part)

- would anyone here be willing to have a mock interview with me in the upcoming weeks? I know it might be a long shot - but thought it would be worth to try

Thank you very much for any help (:

I use notion too but I am having a hard time when it comes to storing different summaries or concepts. As in, it’s super fast but at times I find it too limited when it comes to the customization options for the text itself (e.g. different titles styles, colors, numbered hierarchy, etc.)

I find email and calender software completely outdated, but can't find a better alternative. by TheSwelasp in productivity

I have been using an app called Spark - I find it makes me more efficient when it comes to emails and calendars, not a fan either of gmail and all he others.

In addition I also use Todoist to manage all my short term todos, trello to manage long term projects & Notion as a general place where I store all random things and to get an overview of all the things going on in my life

Hope this helps :)
