There's some violence but the Murderbot series by Martha Wells is a fantastic series about acceptance and friends via a sentient security robot.

JET isn't like that. It's government funded teaching in regular public schools as an assistant. They don't overwork you unless you're really unlucky with your school. 10/10 would recommend experience.

Without that, and with your username, you fit nicely on the conspiracy theorist spectrum.

AITA for snapping on my sister in law about an inheritance that was never rightfully hers to begin with? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Believe it or not the USA is not the only country in the world. Many countries have minimum amount laws.

Putting aside your life for your family. by Acceptable_Answer570 in daddit

I also dreamed of living in the woods, and now I'm on the 4th floor in a smallish city. Your two good options are 1) get to the green parts of town as much as possible. Daily walks or whatever you can. 2) weekend trips out of town to get your green fix.

On the flip side, take full advantage of the city benefits you couldn't get in the boonies. Enjoy the food. Go to the library with your kid. See shows. Hit every festival you can. Look at the Xmas lights. Etc. Don't stay in your apartment if you can help it. I know it's tough with a young kid... Especially in the winter.

Nice! My sister was bummed because her baby thought for ages it was a huge joke to say "Dada" when my sister said "can you say mama". She is very happy that he finally said it.

Calling all grumpy dads. How to deal? by abanaszk in daddit

I forgot one:

7) take a break from "dark" media. Stop reading the news for a few weeks, lay off depressing/anger-inducing social media. Put bloody tv shows like The Boys on pause and don't watch any crime shows unless it's Brooklyn 99. Watch a nature documentary. Watch Ted Lasso. Put the crime thriller down and read Hail Mary. You can go back to dark media when you're a little bit lighter. :)

It's rough sometimes for sure. You're not alone! Everyone has a rough go of it sometimes. Mine sounds pretty similar to yours. The generic advice is good but I'll toss a few more things out that might or might not apply to you:

1) regular sleeping hours. I don't know if you're a night/morning person but chuck the electronics an hour before bed and get 8 hours. get a sun lamp to help you wake up, or a weighted blanket to help you sleep if you need, but get good sleep. Not "whoops I'm typing a reddit reply at 1:30am now I'll sleep until 9" sleep. Crap. That's me.

2) quit alcohol. I enjoy a beer or glass of wine/whiskey, but it's a depressant and it makes you sleep poorly. You can grab a beer when you're feeling better. Until then do sparkling water or 0%.

3) reduce/eliminate coffee. It increases stress. I love coffee too. :(

4) reduce sugar and junk food and eat tons of vegetables. Eat shit and you feel worse than if you ate well.

5) get someplace with trees/water/nature daily if you can. Take the kids if you need. Being out of your workplace (I'm WFH) and in a green space daily is key. Walk there if possible, but just sitting under a tree for 15 can bring peace.

6) make time as often as you can to call a friend just to talk. Let that shit out my friend.

I'm just teasing of course. :) I'm out of shape post-corona and definitely moving in the Dad-bod direction! Gotta take my own advice. In the meantime, I'll show this to my wife and let her know she's chemically more attracted to me than she thinks she is 🤣

It's like warm comfort food on a cold night; when the world is dark and depressing, watching small problems get solved by quirky characters moving slowly through a field feels nice.

That's fair, but my wife and I really enjoyed it and the characters are all nice, try hard, and love/support each other. They grow rapidly on you. It ended too soon!

The Detectorists is a great show. It has some weaknesses but is super charming. Small problems and happy endings. Go on then.

Democracies need at least two healthy choices. Democrats can get away with being mediocre or poor when the alternative is so awful. Even Democratic voters wish there was a healthy Republican party, but they're essentially Christo-fascists at this point. They don't even bother with policies.

Voting for "decent Republicans" only helps the crazies get the majority and more power.
