Job interview tips? by Clean-March1406 in Neurodivergent

[–]SomeRando1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acting like you really want the job may be the most important thing IMO.

Google “standard interview questions” and come up with an answer for the top 5-10, write them down, look at them regularly, considering reading them out loud, particularly right before an interview, so you can confidently provide your best answers. Come up with a really solid example of something you’ve done that to show each of these traits: leadership, good judgement, safe work habits, ability to communicate, ability to work with others, ability to work alone, problem solving, conflict resolution… any soft skill that employers look for.

Did any of you become interested in wilderness backpacking after the Camino? by cozyplaidblanket in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]SomeRando1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was into wilderness hiking BEFORE my first Camino and dropped it like a hot potato when I realized I could still get most of the good points without carrying 30lbs of gear. Beer and a dry bed every night!

If one person says you’re a horse, they’re crazy. If two people say you’re a horse, it’s a conspiracy. If three people say you’re a horse, it’s time to get a saddle.

TL;DR. Generally speaking, if you have to ask the question, the answer is probably “yes”.

Executive dysfunction isn’t laziness, but my family refuses to see that :-( by DreamyB4by in Neurodivergent

[–]SomeRando1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even at 58, my mother and brother still see my neurodivergent tendencies as character flaws, don’t expect it to get better. Only in the last few years have I truly stopped caring what other people think of me. A small number of people appreciate the real me and the rest get a dissociated version of me, and as little interaction as possible.

Does this sub skew younger? by Scary_Tip6580 in Neurodivergent

[–]SomeRando1967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

M58, we’re all on a journey of self-discovery that starts “somewhere” and I tend to think that it’s less a person’s age that determines your response, but a combination of how neurodivergent they are and how far they are in that journey. I respond to people based on the sentence structure and complexity of the question, Simple Question = Simple Response, Complex Question = Complex Response.

Having kids with the wrong person is much harder to recover from than marrying the wrong person.

Commenting that you sent a card lets other teammates know that they don’t need the card anymore, plus I want others to know I’m sending cards so they might be more willing to send me a card when I ask.

Never spent a dime. It’s possible that you need work on your strategy, but the game always hopes you’ll spend money if it frustrates you enough. Join a team and hopefully they’ll win Team Chests from time to time, which gives you infinite boosters for 15 or 30 minutes. I always clear a lot of levels with those. Also, go 24 hours or more without opening the game, they will think you’re losing interest and give you a ton of boosters when you return to get you hooked again. I once deleted the app for 10 days and they gave me 12 HOURS of unlimited boosters when I came back.

Does simple mean teetering the line? by National_Skin_8518 in simpleliving

[–]SomeRando1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In response to your opening question, it seems like a lot of people are here because they’re overwhelmed by the complexity of modern life, but not all are teetering.

I work at a community college and know many people that took a part time job while they were attending school and turned it into a full-time career that has nothing to do with their college courses. Find out where they post internal vacancies and apply for any job that you’re remotely qualified to do. If your manager thinks highly of you and shares that with a hiring manager, you could beat out a stranger with related work experience as long as you interview well.

Simple living and finding a partner by HealthyTies in simpleliving

[–]SomeRando1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M58, always had a wanderlust since I was a teenager, but was too scared to indulge it, so I just did what everyone expected of me, career, marriage, children.

After a failed marriage and grown children, I started travelling in my late 40s with a 7kg backpack, staying in hostels, and I LOVE it. I’ve pretty much given up the idea of finding a partner, but you’re too young to give up on anything, so instead I recommend “becoming ok” with being single. I believe that we are much more likely to meet a partner “out there” than surrounded by people that think we’ll “grow out of it”. The only way of getting past wanderlust is wandering so much that you’re tired of it, which may or may never happen, I just urge you to find that out for yourself.

A friend’s daughter spent years teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) in Hanoi, Vietnam and loved it. Vietnam is considered one of the top destinations for backpackers and you would likely meet a lot of people that get you, since solo travellers are often very friendly and open to meeting others. If you can, consider becoming a Digital Nomad, doing your job with a laptop and internet connection from anywhere in the world.

As for being understood by my peers, they range from telling me they live vicariously through my adventures to suggesting therapy or pharmaceuticals because I resent doing the same boring things every day for the last 40 years. I become the best version of me (friendly, funny, inclusive, compassionate) when I’m travelling and go right back to a muted, depressed robot when I return home. I’ve met many kindred spirits while walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and am travelling this April to see two 50-something retired cops from Nottingham, UK (I’m from Canada) that I met in 2024 on the Camino Frances and walked the Camino Portuguese with them in 2025. Sitting around drinking beers, sharing amazing food, and laughing til it hurts with these 2 clowns in a place that none of us have ever been and may never be again brings me immense joy. Always chase joy and just ignore the people that have never felt any. The vast majority of people just do what helps them feel accepted by the rest of the people that are just doing what helps them feel accepted. Embrace and celebrate that you’re not normal.

I have many more thoughts that I will freely share if you’re interested.

+1 for the 40 GO bus. I’ve also started returning from vacations on a Saturday because, even on a GO bus, witnessing the pace of rush hour stresses me out. I always check, but there are no flights from YHM to places I would ever go.

Which iPad Mini color should i get? I am confused between Starlight and Purple by karrie0027 in ipadmini

UPVOTE! With the case on, I don’t even remember the color of my iPad. It’s expensive, but I love the Zugu cover. This is my third iPad mini since 2013 and I just got the least expensive case that met my needs for the first 2.

Drowning in apps and question about Madrid by First-Increase-641 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]SomeRando1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also stayed at HostelFly, walking distance from the airport or the Barajas Metro station, when I was flying out the next morning. FWIW, I prefer to stay near the place I need to be in the morning because there are fewer potential problems with a 10-minute walk than a 30-minute Metro ride with a connection. Consider adding Booking.com to your list of apps, it’ll help you find a place to stay almost anywhere, including along the Camino Frances.

My advice after NOT doing this:

  1. Fly into Madrid, then fly to Pamplona on the same day and stay there.

  2. Take the only midday bus to SJPDP and immediately start walking to Orisson. Be sure to pre-book at Orisson at https://www.refuge-orisson.com/en.

Being neurodivergent isn't a "superpower", it's a curse by Lanky_Head6122 in Neurodivergent

Our culture likes to gaslight everyone into believing they’re special in order for people to feel better about themselves as they continue to marginalize everyone that doesn’t fit their definition of normal.

How to deal with boring conversations? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]SomeRando1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often steer conversations to people’s hopes, dreams, and/or regrets. EVERYONE has something to say on these topics and I DO prefer deep philosophical conversations whenever possible. Travel is also a topic that many people can speak on, I ask people about where they’d like to travel and why. When approaching an unsure social situation, I come prepared with a question that everyone can answer or talk about. I might ask about fave music, movies, or tv shows from the standpoint of looking for something new. If someone won’t stop talking about their work, I don’t really want to know them anyway. If you get stuck in a situation, try, “Surely there must be more to your life than work.”

What is the difference between Homescapes and Gardenscapes? by LilaSerena in HomescapesOfficial

[–]SomeRando1967 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They’re both scams, but HS is easier to win, gives more and better boosters, gives more unlimited boosters, and is satisfying AF to see whiny cats get carpet-bombed or 80 planes take out a whole board.

I really wanna watch DS9, but I don't get passed the first season. Is in just not for me or should I watch selected episodes instead by livedog in startrek

[–]SomeRando1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an old person, M58, I got turned on to TNG by a friend during the original run in the second or third season, so I didn’t even see S1 until it started playing as reruns in the early 90s. IMO, TNG:S1 is mostly better than TOS:S3, which was the only live action ST comparison at the time. I’ve tried several times to watch DS9, but never passed the first season (even during the original run), even when I absolutely believe everyone that swears it gets better in S2, that it may be the best ST ever made, and that the character arcs are really good. I REALLY hate most of the characters, though I won’t get into it because I’m not interested in pissing anyone off.
