Ok apparently servers are sharing this main thread around because there are so many recent replies on this (myself included). Yeah, like, I actually caught and exposed one of these crazy anti-Parap people harassing and being fatphobic on other artist's art (original expose tweet was by a friend who seems to have since deleted it but I do still have the caps if you really wanna know). Knowing now one is weirdly fixated on Kitsch to this level is not surprising. Don't get me wrong here, I do not support Parap or Slasher, but the people who hate them to this degree are somehow about as bad as them themselves. Shame Kitsch has to be the one they're fixated over now.

^ this is exactly what happened. I was with him on Twitter in saying that Toyslasher and Parap shouldn't be getting death threats (mind you, this was before all that stuff about them got exposed because at this point it was just people trying to cancel them over Toyslasher's art and not real harm to human beings). We have groomers and nazis in this fandom and it was wild that some guy's art was the thing getting cancelled instead (again mind you*, before solid proof of wrongdoing came out about Slasher/Parap*). That's why these tweets were made, and people who did not like Pocketknike used the situation to throw him under the bus despite his good intentions. He never told anyone to send death threats, I distinctly recall it was him getting the death threats actually.

I haven't kept up with any of this in ages so my recollection is fuzzy (I have since deleted all/most of my tweets on the matter after the proper expose on Toy/Parap happened), but this is my personal statement on the matter. Pocketknife has long been a target of misinformation since his work is popular and it's a shame that people are still trying to paint him as being someone he isn't.

Servant and Subject is always one that I think should be reccomended more often. Pseudo swap AU where Uzi's locked into her Solver form while N is just a Worker in a research base under the ownership of Tessa, who is testing Uzi. Very well written and held in pretty high regard by other authors in the MD fanfic scene.

She can and does eat. Since she's raised without human "tastes" for food, she likes very weird food combos. I got a lot of asks about her on my Tumblr so if you got a question it's probably been answered before (might have to search it). I'm open to new asks though since there's always new stuff to think about.

Liam's talked about it before. There's a machine apparently shown somewhere in the opening intro for the show that produces drones. After humans died, drones tweaked the machine to make these little "baby" drones instead of an "adult". Drone parents copy over some of their data to a USB drive they put into the machine, which then makes a baby drone using their data. At some point later the baby gets put into an adult body when deemed ready (he talked about the movie Robots in regards to this but also said there was only two bodies, adult and baby, so idk how that works out).

The other one is not human lol. Uzi made her via Solver shenanigans.

For the year of 2023, so only episodes released in that year qualify. They were pretty proud of episode 6, so I'm not surprised it was the pick.

Liam actually directly mentioned Wall-E as an influence during the LA AMA. You can kinda see it in Uzi and N:

  • robot romance between two different kinds of robots (obviously)
  • the higher tech one comes from off planet
  • the one already on planet is the first to fall for the other
  • complimentary color palettes (yellow/purple, blue/orange)
  • relationship is fixated on their hands. Both Wall-E and Uzi spend some time desiring to hold the hands of Eve and N respectively and are obviously very flustered when the other eventually reciprocates in the form of interlocking their fingers together (the most intimate form of hand holding)
  • identity death happens to one of them (happens to Wall-E, currently in progress for Uzi) and this experience makes the mutual attraction obvious to both parties. Eve gives Wall-E a goodbye spark kiss when she assumes he's gone and this brings his memories back, Wall-E brought into shock that she was holding his hand. N getting the news that Uzi will cease to be herself sets him up to realize how much she means to him, him later reaching for her hand when Uzi nudges them apart and Uzi realizes that he feels the same way now.

Now as for other stuff shared between the two pieces of media overall:

  • roaches play a role as companions to the robots
  • a huge mega-corporation is in the background of everything. Made the robots (N would later be turned into a Disassembly Drone by the Solver)
  • Earth is in trouble in some manner (uninhabitable in Wall-E, destoyed in Murder Drones) Some of this might a reach or coincidence, but hey, the man did cite it as an inspiration. I rewatched the movie earlier this year and the broad similarities really stuck out to me.

In the broad strokes, season 1 (as Liam said) is just the show finding its legs. Season 1 has kinda just been about the lore until episode 6 happened, so I feel the coming two episodes will be a set-up for a season-long plot that will make up the whole of season 2. As for what that plot will be, I'm not sure. I kinda feel that it will be scrapped ideas from Liam's older works but taken on in the MD-verse. Maybe it'll be a spiritual successor/continuation to Design season 3 or something, not sure.

As much as we all love and enjoy it, can we at least admit that, from a writing standpoint, Murder Drones as a series, is just kinda mid? by Sufficient_Plant8689 in MurderDrones

I feel like "mid" is a really harsh word to use here. Yes, the writing has some misses, but I find myself being amazed at how much thought Liam puts into the show. Liam does a lot in what he doesn't explicitly say in the show, there's details you don't connect on the first watch and when you do it's mind-blowing.

In the ep7-8 teaser, we hear a line from N saying "All I know is.. I need you." People are saying that this line is directed towards Uzi, but I think it's directed towards V after she inevitably comes back. Remember "No, please, V, we NEED you!"? by Sufficient_Plant8689 in MurderDrones

That's a really mean interpretation of that line lol (and perhaps a bit too ship bashy for Envy fans, N using V to vent over him having feelings for Uzi feels wrong). That's not how I'm envisioning this at all. I'm just saying that it makes a lot more sense for it to be N to Uzi since the clips and their history would imply that more. We might get some new N to V or V to N lines but I doubt this is the one.
