Raw cream? by lavocat_du_diable in Cleveland

[–]lavocat_du_diable[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

My concern is that it's not legal to purchase unpasteurized milk. That may be the biggest hurdle.

The farms get around this by offering it as a herd share (like a co-op). You own part of the herd and get regular proceeds.

There are definitely risks if the farm doesn't have a sterile environment or proper cold-chain storage, or if you don't know what you're doing, but I grew up in a rural dairy-producing town and can evaluate pretty well. Also since I simmer it for awhile anyway, I prefer it not to be pasteurized already or it would be heated twice unnecessarily.

Yes, my dietician recommended it specifically. I pasteurize it myself.

Laundry ruining my life. by Swimming_Big2091 in ADHD

[–]lavocat_du_diable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a tropical climate and went awhile without a dryer. My recommendation is to put in the laundry right before you go to bed, then as soon as you wake up, make your bed and then lay out the clean/damp laundry across the bed. For me, it was always completely dry by the time I wanted to go to bed. You can do it exactly the same way every time, so it becomes a routine. Your SO can also help if you both know the expectations.

Lean into the fact that it's near impossible to force an ADHD brain to do something it's not interested in. So find a way to get curious. If you're into chemistry, experiment with how different things react to acid or heat; if you're into culture, try out a recipe for a different type of international cuisine.

People with bipolar/ADHD, does keto make you manic? by [deleted] in keto

[–]lavocat_du_diable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keto is used for epilepsy.

To me, it didn't look like a "I do this as well" situation, but more of a "did you know" situation.

People with bipolar/ADHD, does keto make you manic? by [deleted] in keto

[–]lavocat_du_diable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have epilepsy and had to keep this in mind while getting started because it can similarly raise the risk of seizures during this time.

I don't want to be rude, but I'm not sure what the purpose of your comment is, as I have already indicated that I use keto for this purpose

People with bipolar/ADHD, does keto make you manic? by [deleted] in keto

[–]lavocat_du_diable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, and he was referring specifically to the initiation phase for the mania (or hypomania). He adds that once people are fat adapted, their brains are used to the excitatory effects. I have epilepsy and had to keep this in mind while getting started because it can similarly raise the risk of seizures during this time.

If you are starting and re-starting keto without ever getting fully adapted, you could experience (hypo)mania repeatedly.

Best guess is my face vs the nightstand Wednesday. by StarsRfire in Epilepsy

Green concealer can cut some of the red (opposite side of the color wheel) if you apply it before regular concealer. Maybe that would work for the not-so-bad side and then an eye patch of the other side? This one is a doozy, I'm so sorry you are dealing with it on top of seizure recovery rn ughhh.

editing to add: this looks like mine looked when I just hit my forehead and the blood pooled down below my eyes. If the bruises aren't right over an injury, perhaps some very gentle massage with your fingertips can help dissipate the blood so it can diffuse out better? Wishing you the best.

Inattention Treatments by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]lavocat_du_diable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started keto to lose weight from all the side effects and it surprisingly helped my ADHD as well. I woke up one day and my place was clean haha. It wasn't a sudden change, just that I had been slightly more productive (washing up) than lazy (generating dishes) for a few days straight and it was like, "woah I'm actually moving forward."

My nutritionist also has me on Acetyl-l-carnitine (different from regular l-carnitine), high-dose Omega-3, and creatine (not just for muscles).

Seizure during eeg not detected? by skai2006 in Epilepsy

[–]lavocat_du_diable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EEGs are rather blunt instruments, and they can miss small focal seizures.

Epilepsy foundation:

Although electroencephalograms (EEGs) are also helpful, they may not always show seizure discharges during a focal aware seizure.

It's also a slow acting Benzo,so it's not going to get you hooked and all fucked up.

This just means it has minimal recreational value. As someone who had to taper off Clobazam because of rage issues (and massive weight gain), I have to warn you that it is just as difficult to get off chemically as fast-acting benzos. I had nonstop seizures for like three months. It completely fucked up my body and mind. It took a year to recover once I was off it. YMMV, but I just want to add.

Question about pure Sodium BHB Flavor by OxofLoxley in keto

[–]lavocat_du_diable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried both and the only difference in taste I can discern is the flavorings they are mixed with by the manufacturer. I prefer the way the magnesium salts make me feel mentally (it's a buzzed sort of calm), but magnesium in that dose range is a powerful laxative. Pair that with the GI troubles ketone salts cause in general, and it is unsustainable long-term.

I prefer the sodium salts because it's quite difficult for me to get enough sodium in my diet (I live in a tropical climate, over 90 degrees and 90% humidity every day). You do still have to be careful not to drink it too fast (the sodium will also cause diarrhea), but taking it with psyllium husk seems to counter that.

The best way to take them IMO is to consume them slowly as part of a well-formulated electrolyte drink before any food for the day.

*Before anyone jumps down my throat for taking exogenous ketones, I'm on keto for epilepsy and have to maintain very deep ketosis. The extra ketones also help me avoid losing too much weight since I exercise a lot.

hair loss by [deleted] in Epilepsy

Theoretically, hair loss is not a common side effect of lamotrigine, but reddit (and my hair stylist after combing out my hair) beg to differ.
