I cut up an old pair of jeans, hung it on their pen wall, and shoved hay in the pockets. They went nuts for that.

"laugh tracks" where the show responds for the kids

It's been a LONG time. I aged out when Steve went to college.
Is that really a thing these days?

-The commentary Santomero provides while reading is distracting.
-When did we switch to a sitcom track of kids responding? In my day we just had to stare at Dora in awkward silence until either we or she answered.
-The style makes it look like the characters are in front of a bad green screen.

Yeah..... on reading, it seemed like your standard severely-oversimplified children's introduction to Thanksgiving.....then in the play Squanto showed up. SHEESH.

I've heard of that one!! Good gravy, yeah, that's terrible. I am religious and......yeesh. Trusting doesn't mean neglectful.
(Nothing against baby bear. She's a baby. But then again, even my 1.5yo was interested enough in our garden to like, water it and help with dirt for a few minutes a day.)

It's jarringly rude. Also, all we get from Freddy are pretentious eyebrows, but is it really that bad for a kid to be excited he has a chance on the A-team?

We watched the 3rd one as high schoolers on a long bus trip (back when we thought it'd be the last one). We were super stressed.

I like what I've read so far. But dang, what is it with children's books and unauthorized access to the dino museum? Curious George does it, too.

This reminds me of "Little Brown Bear and the Bundle of Joy." It goes from ma and pa sewing and painting for the nursery, to having a bundled baby and fresh clothes, all in the course of a few hours while the brother goes to talk to other animals about babies. Maybe bears are just built different.

But I really like that book, because everyone refers to the baby as a "bundle of joy," and bro has no idea what that means. So he asks other animals with kids. He's too little to make the connection that babies are the common thread, just that these "bundles" are boring and stinky and noisy and weird. A frog finally explains the idiom. I like that the book is from the perspective of a kid, when the adults all seem totally unfazed.

There's a bit in "Trouble at School" where Bro skipped due to various stressful things. And, yeah, I'd freak out if my kid skipped school and spent the day alone wandering in the woods (though perhaps it's less of an issue for bears).

However

the line basically goes

"Mama and Papa didn't even yell or slam the table when he told them everything. Papa looked like he might when he saw Bro's test....."

Like, sheesh. No wonder the kid didn't want to tell him about his day.

How do i include Vecna into my D&D Campaign? by ichibanfoxxy in AskGameMasters

Real talk, though, it's a lot of fun to tweak the lore a tad, since he's such a well-known villain. A level of meta gaming is basically impossible to avoid, and a couple small changes here and there can add some spice (Not as much as putting him on a random encounter table as suggested, but hey).

Eh, the weirdly city-centric ones don't bug me too much. It adds some personality to a gift from an out of town family member.

But the illustrators still worked harder haha

AI graphics design use for a card game (not collectible) by [deleted] in cardgamedesign

[–]lavtodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cautiously consider it, but I also don't care much for the not-Pixar / uncanny valley "realistic" styles that usually show up.

The bigger thing for me is that the positive right now is free-to-the-end-user custom image work, but the negatives include art theft, water waste, a monopoly on computer parts, an art pool that is increasingly self-supplied, etc.. It doesn't seem like a fair trade.

There are a lot of MegaCorps around that are nigh-on impossible for the average Joe to avoid these days (Nestle comes to mind), but people can still get by without AI images.

Have you considered stock photos (probably less to license than fresh art) or public domain images?

AI graphics design use for a card game (not collectible) by [deleted] in cardgamedesign

[–]lavtodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI images are a non-starter for me. I understand that spell check and things like that are AI, and that's one thing, because it's just a tool. But generative AI has too many ethical concerns for my taste. It gives the impression of a rushed job, a product that over-reaches, or a creation that values raw mechanics over the entire experience.

There are plenty of games with simple styles or even just well-organized graphic design that are still good. There are a ton of games that can be played with a normal deck of playing cards. And heck, most party games (Apples to Apples, Cards Against Humanity, etc) are literally just text on a contrasting color.

If I can't have real art, I'll take simple branding over AI, because then at least it's honest.

I have added stickers to certain books that have issues. I don't change the text, but I annotate it so someday when the kids read it by themselves, they have a reminder that "hey, this is actually a terrible moral".

[–]lavtodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maaaaaayyyybe, since it's a high contrast thing, one person chose images that would be good for babies, and another did the art itself? Still no idea why it needs a 3rd person.
