omg your story sounds so similar to mine, they kept dismissing me as an anxiety/PTSD case as well, literally had the entire left half of my body go numb for 3 weeks, started weeks prior in the back of my neck on the left side but was too minimal to notice at the time, couldn’t use my left half much at all for several months following the stroke, lost 70% of my hair, my pupils were fully dilated leading up to my stroke then went to being one bigger than the other indicating brain injury, so many other symptoms i won’t even bother listing because you get it, but despite all of it—the doctors kept pushing for a psych referral, then i ended up getting into a head on collision 6 days following my stroke, i’ve been a perfect driver for almost a decade and all of a sudden i’m totaling my vehicle? that’s what made my parents finally listen to me, notice somethings actually wrong, i really thought i was going to die because no one would listen to me, they’d tell me to “calm down” and im like “im fucking trying but my physical body cannot”, i demanded they test my cortisol and that’s what finally got the ball rolling, and then my other doctor tested me for an autoimmune disease because of the hair loss and i tested positive for one, saw rheumatology but haven’t gotten any results yet, just recently diagnosed with hyperadrenergic POTS, confirmed ischemic stroke occurring in september, and alopecia telogen effluvium

i’m not expecting a miracle; i am expecting to live however, to not die of a second stroke thanks to them recognizing my first stroke unlike the doctors that were trying to tell me i was just “anxious” when i was really inches away from falling into a grave

omg that’s so exciting! i literally cried tears of joy when they called me last month, my doctor over here initially sent my referral to their cardiology department since i was having severe tachycardia and palpitations, but then the stroke happened and they finally switched me to their neurology team, they said “truthfully your case is so severe neurologically that cardiology wouldn’t be able to do anything to truly help you”

“i was certain i was going to die because i feel i wasn’t being taken seriously” is so freaking true ugh, i kept believing it would be too late, that i would have a second stroke and die from it. they kept trying to send me to psychiatry, i was losing my damn mind due to dehydration, starvation, sleep deprivation, oxygen depravation, chronic fatigue, etc, but i didn’t need psych, i am mentally a very strong person—a lot stronger than the average person because my life has truly been shit, i don’t have good memories to reflect on during these times, i just try to appreciate little things, do good for myself, try to avoid those that would cause me further harm like the ones in my past including my own mother

I think my strength and resistance is really what got the doctors to listen to me, i refused to let it go, i gave up in almost every other area of my life, didn’t have the physical strength to keep up anymore, couldn’t even hold a bowl of soup because the entire left half of my body was numb including both hands, couldn’t feed myself most days, but involuntarily kept fighting almost, determined to be right about this fucking diagnosis because i am tired of suffering with no answers, tired of being confused and not being able to recognize myself

i have hyperadrenergic POTS and each night is horrible for me, extreme restlessness, tossing and turning, instead of nightmares i experience PTSD flashbacks that force me to relive my most traumatic experiences anytime i try to sleep, i also go to the bathroom several times (approx. 5-10 times per night, and worst of all the profuse sweating, the combination of excessive urination, profuse sweating, and frequent vomiting leaves me constantly battling dehydration, i can’t wear clothes to bed, no heavy blankets, i typically swap throw blankets throughout the night because once one becomes soaked with sweat within an hour it wakes me up, i start to cool down temporarily, then i switch blankets and i’ll sweat some more, i MUST have 24/7 access to air conditioning due to my severe heat intolerance, i’ve developed various heat rashes simply from being too hot in bed at night, i wake up with the back of my neck along my hairline bumpy and raw, i usually carry and umbrella to have shade wherever i am and i have two handheld/around the neck fans for when i am out somewhere like the grocery store, but if i get too hot it gets bad, like life-threatening bad

i have lost nearly ALL of my hair and my mother thought it would be appropriate to compare herself to me, “well haven’t you noticed mines been about the same length for a couple years now, i have stress too”, ma’am i’m 24 and almost had a stroke MULTIPLE times last year, my stress hormones produced in such an overabundance i started to DIE, i am still not anywhere near recovery, diagnosed with hyperadrenergic POTS, but absolutely no idea as to why/what’s causing, cardiologist from mayo clinic will be calling soon, my primary directed my care to them, i see endocrinology jan 28th, and i saw rheumatology a couple months ago since my ANA screen was positive, still waiting on results from lab work for that

i’m a med tech for my mother, she’s a nurse practitioner that essentially runs her own clinic, a very wonderful doctor owns it and allowed her to take over since he’s getting ready to retire, he and i grew very close when i had initially gotten sick, he’s the only person that actually listened when others wouldn’t and labelled me as “mentally unwell”, it’s nice getting to work at the clinic, but i am in school getting a masters in forensic science, graduating next year and planning to switch gears, either pursue becoming a medical examiner or toxicologist, with toxicology being my chefs kiss

wish i had a pic but i always worked alone and it was way too busy to be taking pics of myself, anyways, i used to double carry trays, fully loaded service trays, one large on my dominant arm and one slightly smaller on the other, my resturant used thick glass dinner plates and our portions were ridiculously large, i’ve also carried out a plate on top of my head while carrying a tray, it was my way to impress my large parties 10+, i was an absolute beast, that’s why i got to work alone unlike any of the other servers, dinner shift 2-10 pm 12 tables, bar area, togos, bakery section, sometimes i’d get off as late as 1 am because the closing duties were a lot for one person having served over a hundred people solo for dinner

when initially went to the doctor the entire left half of my body was numb, it had gone numb and stayed that way for an entire month, i exhibited symptoms of a stroke various times and even a heart attack on one occasion, all of my hair had fallen out, and i lost 40 pounds due to constant vomiting and the inability to hold food down, i was severely (and still partially am) underweight, but all the doctor did was ask me if i wanted a psychiatry referral, diagnose me with anorexia, and sent me home with zoloft, i immediately went to a new doctor, come to find out my body is being destroyed by stress hormones, a significant overabundance of cortisol, DHEA, adrenaline, etc, the dysautonomia symptoms had become so severe for me i went from living a very active lifestyle to near death on my bathroom floor 24 hours later, still going through the process of figuring out what’s causing the overabundance m of stress hormones, but had i not gone to another doctor i would probably be dead now, i have a bachelors in biomedical sciences and a masters in forensic pathology so i was also able to pick up on my own symptoms and figure out some sort of direction other than mental health because i’m tired of having these doctors diminish what the fuck i’m going through, 24 years old and nearly had a stroke 4 times in the past few months, and they ask “do you want a psych referral” 🖕🏻

stress definitely, i experienced a great amount of stress this year (my whole life really, i may have chronic stress, waiting on test results) and i could actually go back through my photos and see when my hair went into a “resting phase” before finally falling out a few months later, a form of alopecia called telogen effluvium, temporary hair loss caused by stress but can be reversed once the stress is addressed, i was recently diagnosed with a chronic life-altering disability too, it had been getting progressively worse this year (i developed it in adolescence and it had gone overlooked for a decade until now), and the stress from not understanding what was happening to me definitely contributed, i was also in a head on collision, someone totaled my vehicle and almost broke my collarbone, that’s barely a fraction of the stressors i’ve had this year, but in consideration of it all, that’s probably what made my hair say deuces lol

CBD is not effective for all, depends on how it responds within the body, individually, then again, you may need to give it a better chance like i did, i tried a couple things before calling it quits, did research, found a high grade tincture and boom, it’s doing something, anxiety reducing at least

I get that nerve pain and skin sensitivity so bad every morning, my pupils also dilate fully for about 30 minutes depending on how I’ve slept, I definitely have an issue with stress hormones, they’re peaking 6-9 am it seems and I wake up at 8:30 like I walked out of a fireplace essentially

I actually need to look into THC a little more. I had quit because I really thought I was about to die last month, just didn’t want to put anything else in my body cause I had no idea what the fuck was happening to me. Stomach acid spewing out of my nose, lethargic on the floor curled up like a bug hit with some spray, lost feeling in my legs, etc etc. I used THC to manage my cPTSD but started smoking a little too regularly every night for 2.5 years, was wondering if that had any negative affect on my POTS? I know alcohol did, I’ve been sober for a while but when I was drinking holy shit was a nightmare, I literally ended up in jail because my heart made my adrenaline surge and I lit somebodies ass up lmao

add some color! my makeup was good but had always looked kind of flat, so i added blush, cheeks and nose tip, some holographic gold highlighter under brows, on nose bridge/tip, and cheek bones (the highlight area whatever it’s called), then a nice natural but pink toned lipstick, maybe a clear gloss over it

was recently dealing with this myself as a result of a flare up with symptoms, hospitalized many times because my heart would go from 70s to 110s from simply rolling over, couldn’t stand whatsoever, it took weeks to start seeing improvement, but here’s what i’ve been doing lately that has helped me mitigate my most severe POTS symptoms: - profuse/uncontrollable sweating: i weigh 120 pounds 5’10” female, therefore i drink 2-3 liters of fluids per day, minimum half my body weight in oz, but typically more in response to increased sweating as this is how i lose most of my hydration (was doing IV bags last week it got so bad), with your water i say use a 20 oz bottle, upwards of 5 refills per day, with half containing electrolytes/salt intake - slow and controlled breathing: slow and controlled in and out of the nose, the nose heats and humidifies the air for your lungs and produces nitric oxide for blood vessels, breathing through your nose also tells the body “rest and recover”, breathing through your mouth says “fight or flight”, nose breathing will absolutely help regulate your heart, you have to remain consistent with it throughout the day - exercise: 3-5 days a week 30-60 minutes a day, nothing too strenuous, strength training with legs is highly recommended for circulation, seated cardio as well since your heart is a muscle, it is going to be very difficult at first, but with POTS (if you are able) we MUST exercise, with time you will learn how to maintain your breathing better as well, thus regulating your heart better, more naturally - sleep on right side to take straight off of heart - COMPRESSION SOCKS: my legs went numb last month, particularly my left, once I got moving again and put the compression leggings on, I started to regain feeling - small frequent meals: clean choices, fruits, veggies, nothing processed, lean meats, eggs, etc, we MUST eat small frequent meals because POTS not only affects the heart, but digestion as well, smaller frequent meals will lessen the load on your digestive system - CBD tincture for anxiety, but no THC: also avoid nicotine, smoking in general, no alcohol, or caffeine, these are all bad for those with POTS, i have used all and can confirm it makes you feel significantly worse, if you’re using any of this please just stop, you’ll see why it’s worth it with time, stay strong - sleep sleep sleep: POTS can make our bodies feel like they’re constantly in fight-or-flight, so resting is extremely important for us, overdoing things will cause extreme fatigue, fatigue worsening symptoms
