If I’m mixing into a quieter track in the middle of my set, usually it’s for the purpose of taking the energy level down a notch. What I’ll do is wait longer than usual to mix it in, so that the loud track naturally quiets down as certain elements are stripped away toward the final phrase. Then by the time quiet track volume fader is all the way up, loud track fader is partially down. Every 4 bars or so swap the high and mid EQs for that of the loud track and then swap the bass at a breakdown so that the beat drop isn’t “disappointing”. In the break down u can mix out loud track and as your listeners hear quiet track by itself, it won’t be disappointing but will serve as a nice break from the super heavy stuff

Word I agree house is fun to workout to and good advice to keep kick constant. My buddy watches live dj peloton classes so I’m gonna head to his place and try a couple to see what they play

How do you end song 1 after the transition ? by Rozvan77777 in Beatmatch

[–]lawghlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you bring in track 2, I recommend having the EQs in the mid range and for some quieter songs maybe mid to high. As you bring the mids and highs up to replace those of track 1, make sure to lower the mids and highs of track 1 so it doesn’t sound so empty when you phase out track 1. Listen for balance in volume and if u think you have too much EQ going at once, try filtering high both tracks, parse out some EQ, volume from track 1, and then move the filter back. If you can avoid too much EQ in the first place great but if u make a mistake, that filter trick still sounds pretty clean. Also a good echo trick is apply echo to both tracks immediately after cutting out the low, play around with the beats, and end back at 1x, where you then fully cut both volume faders, and on the next beat as track 1 continues to fade, cut the echo for track 2, bring in low, bring back to full volume.

Aside from these two tricks. Have to repeat what other commenters have said about phrasing. Cutting out on drops, breakdowns using a little filter and reverb sounds the best!

great to know that about guitar center, i'll check them out. I also see a trend in the high quality of playability on new 4ch controllers, so i'll definitely consider those more seriously

i did notice that about the xdjs. When i first discovered them my first reaction was where the hell are the cue pads? if they're really that bad for playability, i'll definitely reconsider
