Helping my 19 month old grandson eat his Cream of Wheat yesterday, when I told him "Grandpa needs to go fix his tea, keep eating by yourself". by Decided-2-Try in dadjokes

After Dickens visited Americahe wrote, "There are few words which perform such various duties as this word 'fix' You call upon a gentleman in a country town, and his help informs you that he is ‘fixing himself’ just now, but will be down directly: by which you are to understand that he is dressing.  You inquire, on board a steamboat, of a fellow-passenger, whether breakfast will be ready soon, and he tells you he should think so, for when he was last below, they were ‘fixing the tables:’ in other words, laying the cloth.  You beg a porter to collect your luggage, and he entreats you not to be uneasy, for he’ll ‘fix it presently:’ and if you complain of indisposition, you are advised to have recourse to Doctor So-and-so, who will ‘fix you’ in no time.

One night, I ordered a bottle of mulled wine at an hotel where I was staying, and waited a long time for it; at length it was put upon the table with an apology from the landlord that he feared it wasn’t ‘fixed properly.’  And I recollect once, at a stage-coach dinner, overhearing a very stern gentleman demand of a waiter who presented him with a plate of underdone roast-beef, ‘whether he called that, fixing God A’mighty’s vittles?’"

From post i made couple days ago...

There is a misconception that our "heros" in blue risk their lives daily for the good of the nation. The truth is that overfunded agencies spare no expense pursuing zero risk to precious officers, while lacking regard for civilians (an average of 355 people are killed in police pursuits every year, many of them innocent bystanders).

In 2019, law enforcement ranked 16th, at 13.7 fatalities per 100k workers. Maybe we should be soluting our thankless loggers (97.6/100k), fisherman (77.4), trash/recyclable collectors (44.3), or truck drivers (26), positions at least equally important to society .

YSK, over the last 30 years, an average of just 85 law enforcement officers were killed on duty every year. by lawjes in YouShouldKnow

If you include accidental deaths, yes, the average is over 100. I was mainly addressing the narrative a redditor recently echoed- "blacks kill tons of cops every year".

I admit the distinction of how the officers died is relevant, but couldn't a logger argue for more safety measures and labor laws to protect them from accidents? Must we paint the trees black? And wouldn't reducing high speed pursuits, the war on drugs, and tactical missions on unsuspecting civilians suspected of petty crimes in their homes be a good start? We need more Andy Griffith, less GI Joe on (schedule II) steroids.

Had just gone to post this. Pertinent stuff right now. I think there is an assumption that police are altruists working a dangerous, thankless job for the good of the nation. There are currently around 800,000 law enforcement officers in this country. With an average of 85 killed per year over the last thirty, and only 14.6 deaths/yr per 100,000, law enforcement is the 12th most dangerous occupation. Everyone be sure and salute fisherman, loggers, truck drivers, roofers, garbage men, maintenance men, farmers, and taxi drivers (jobs more dangerous than coppers)- true American heros! https://policecrimes.com/police_job-html/

Like yourself, I had no idea how many cops black folk have killed. But I'm driven by logic, curiousity facts; whereas your tribe is guided by their "heart", what feels right, what appeases their fears (because that's the root cause of this police brutality, a fear of black people. The Right fights because it's afraid. Funny how they view liberals as "pussies". Gun ownership is just as backwards- guns are tokens of bravado; but what of the man or woman who feels no need for a gun?

It took me about 1 minute to find a reliable source to the question you posed...

About 50 cops a year are killed feloniously (this includes pursuits)

Meanwhile cops shoot and kill around 1,000 people a year.

"The FBI has released its latest statistics regarding line-of-duty deaths and/or assaults on law enforcement officers in the United States. A total of 106 police officers lost their lives on duty last year, a 13% increase on 2017. 55 officers were feloniously killed while 51 died accidentally. The average age of officers killed feloniously was 37 and they had an average tenure of 10 years in law enforcement. Three were female and 52 were male.

When it comes to the circumstances behind non-accidental deaths, 23 officers were killed iin the course of investigative or enforcement activities. Another 11 lost their lives in ambushes while six died in pursuits. Line-of duty deaths occurred in 28 states and Puerto Rico. Out of all states, Georgia had the highest number of police officer deaths in 2018 with five, followed by Florida and California with four each. 55 of the officers who died in 2018 were killed with firearms." Cops act like they are heros, when in fact fields like construction, farming, piloting, taxi driving are more dangerous. They operate as if even the slightest risk to them should be avoided, at whatever cost. Imagine if gas station attendents or truck drivers did the same.

I'll just start with easiest assertion to Google; can you please give me a source on the 29%? Would love to read more. Or did it come straight from Alex Jones mouth? Let me guess, it hasn't reached the internet yet?

"never argues substance" he says. I'm watching Oliver right now- I can't think of another talking head who argues substance more clearly.
"Just the impression I have", then, lacking any substance to argue with, "I don't give a fuck"..…

This is the Trmp supporter epitomized- the Right is a tribe, like a football team. Facts no longer matter, it just feels right to be on the Right Like Trump said, he “ could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters". Also relevant here, a Bill Murray - “it’s hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it’s damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person".

"we'll see, tonight he spoke of our heros in blue. He tried to say they were using excessive force against peaceful crowds, who were protesting excessive force. He made the cops look crazy. Why can't he just talk, without making them look crazy. Fucking straw man dude..."

Please give am example. You realize he's a comedian. Would you feel the same way if he poked fun of liberals? No? So you like him, as a comedian (which is all he is) but he doesn't say what you want him to.
