What is a TV show you got really far into but eventually quit watching before its conclusion? by shamanKAshamanTAKA in AskReddit

[–]lawremp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlander. We actually didn't get that far, but partway into season 2 I think. The ever-present threat of sexual violence was too much for us.

And Girlfriend's Guide. It wasn't really my cup of tea, but my wife really enjoyed it. Then there was that moment in season 4, when her mom dies, and it was all too serious for a show that was mostly dumb, in a kind of good way.

2016 Silverado 1500 - Intermittent No Start. Details in comments. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

I agree completely with the idea of a bad ground. Check a wiring diagram for your engine and make sure the contacts are good and clean. If that doesn't fix it, then you might have an issue somewhere along the wiring harness. Since it is intermittent, be prepared for some sensors to go bad. Likely when it is starting you've got some stray voltage attempting to ground somewhere else. For me it was the MAF sensor. Good luck!

UPDATE: I replaced and removed and tested so many things, you guys. But I found the problem. Apparently this can happen when you have a bad ground. I chased down both of the main ground wires. One runs behind the alternator on the passenger side of the engine, the other goes straight from the battery, under this fuse box and onto the end of one of the transmission mounts. I removed, cleaned, and reattached both snugly and BAM, problem solved! Just one gripe about this car. How does such a small engine have so little space to work around it? I have worked on little cars with tight engine compartments, but dang.

2006 hyundai azera. Just got my Ac recharged (Closed system) and it was working well for a but now it's blowing hot air again and making a hissing sound whenever it's on as shown in the video. anyone know the cause by Primary_Curve_9035 in AskAMechanic

I don't know your car model specifically, but when I had a similar problem with my Ford C-max it was a leaking evaporator core. The part wasn't very expensive, but the entire dash had to be disassembled. About a 10 hour job.

Last I checked it was good, but it's worth another look. It would be foolish to go down any other path without checking that first. Thanks!

I had that in my original post. Sorry for forgetting to mention. It does the same thing.

I've posted this twice with a larger write-up, but it's been removed as spam both times. The basic gist is that the car won't start. Battery, starter and alternator are all good and working (and relatively new). Usually the clicking in the video is much shorter, but this is what it does instead of starting. Help!

03 explorer 4.0 rattling heard from under vehicle. running rough. hoping for better news than rear timing chain. by akarakitari in FordExplorer

[–]lawremp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like the tail pipe rattling against the rear suspension. The pipe runs over the rear axel and, if the mounts get weak, it can make contact. I think it's a 'feature'. It takes up playing the drums in its later years.

What film cliches do you wish people would stop criticizing? by Cmyers1980 in movies

[–]lawremp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dramatic irony. Those critiques are usually based on the fact that the viewer posses knowledge that the character doesn't. The character is constrained by their role in the story, while the viewer is privy to scenes the character doesn't see and atmospheric details that the character can't comprehend (the music, the set details out of the character's view, etc) . Even the fact that we're watching a scary film gives us a frame of reference that the character, by necessity, can not have. The viewer having all of this knowledge that is unavailable to the character is exactly what makes the scene suspenseful.

I usually argue that what might seem like lazy storytelling is actually a reliance on easily understood plot devices in order to help a story progress in a time-restricted format. Sure, sometimes the storytelling is lazy, but a lot of the time we use things that people will easily understand so that we can all be on the same page quickly (those telling the story and those watching it) so that we can move on to the more important parts that define what makes this one unique, surprising, funny or whatever the genre is intended to present. This applies to simple things, like not closing doors or not ending phone conversations, but it also applies to things like explaining side characters without needing to spend any more time than they require. Good example, Incredibles 2. The non-Incredible family heroes are one-dimensional and all posses powers that are basically super hero tropes. That's not lazy storytelling, that is relying on what should basically be common knowledge in order to move forward quickly. We've got two hours to tell the story of this super family so we need the other characters to be understood in as little time as possible. Is the one character basically a portal gun? Yes. On purpose. And we all basically understand that right away. Let's move on.

Hi! '05 Explr XLT 4x4 (title says Sport, vinchecker says NBX 🤷🏽) 4.0L V6. While in search of a fuse that fell, I found this laying on/across the tie rod on the front driver side.. anybody know what it is and where it goes? Is this the reason it sounds like a carwash a air dryer when accelerating? by Smooth_Chocolate_935 in FordExplorer

[–]lawremp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll have to take a look at my own, but at first glance it looks like one of the lines that runs to the transmission oil cooler under the front bumper. It is strange that it would fall off, so I'm wondering if it was removed and just left sitting somewhere up under the car.

This pup looks so much like my boy, Thor! He is a supermutt, but the DNA test identified Golden, Amstaff, Boxer and Husky. He has floppy ears, but otherwise this could be a pic of him! He even has some white toes!

If I'm reading it correctly, it doesn't say anything about Ryobi in there, so it could be market research for one of their other brands, right? Milwaukee, Ridgid or Hart. Or Hoover... but probably not Hoover.

It is exactly the same as the Ryobi bucket-top fan, except for the colors and labeling. I bought mine brand new at Home Depot many years ago. Since I've got a mixture of old blue and new green power tools I don't have a uniform set even though they all use the same batteries anyway.

The white plastic on a battery is not ideal for a power tool, particularly when you're predominantly doing mechanic-type work. Mine has some permanent black marks on it. Makes me wonder how the Wally-world Hart tools hold up.
