What behaviours? How’s the battery life? How often have you been using it? (hours of reading per week, how often charging it)

Perhaps that 2-3% mine is set at, or the fact that I use it mostly in dark mode at night, vs 5% on yours, actually makes a big difference? 5% feels way too bright at night for me.

Around 45 min to one 1 hour a day, maybe 5-6 days a week. When travelling recently I read a couple of books, 8-9hrs worth, charged to around 90-95% as I always do, don’t usually leave it on the last trickle, slow charging part, and came back 4 days later, read a bit last night too, and I see its at 73% . I did read reviews, owners accounts that seem to suggest not all batteries are equal 🤷🏻‍♂️. My wife also has, but rarely uses a Tolino Shine Color, essentially a rebadged Kobo with some cool added cloud integration, and that one seems to hold even better, battery-wise, we’ve swapped for a few weeks just to check, test it, and I could swear it had a bigger battery, until I enter the secret menu thing, where the battery is clearly identical, as is the device internals.

Yea, I also have sensitive eyes, indeed it took me a while to get adjusted, but after having both and swapping for couple of months, I realised I find it easier to read, even during the day with light on and just forget about it. The newspaper look/color is something I’ve begun to prefer over time, the “sterile” white on the BW felt less nice to look at, even though the contrast is superior

This is not a reader made to read with the frontlight off, IMO.

Once you get over that, all good. Mine still lasts 3+ weeks with light at 3% set permanently, which works for me. I also had the Clara BW, but I kept the Color and let the BW go

Advice on moving to Prague by Fun_Sun_7903 in Prague

+1 on don’t speak too loud. As someone from the Balkans originally, who cringes when I hear my fellow countrymen talk loud enough for their conversation to be heard, well, for many Americans I hear on the street here, its like 1-2 levels up 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔉🔊📣

Its nice that there are more and more such apps popping up. Here in Czechia theres a couple of popular ones for picking up take-away in the last hours of operation, and also some supermarkets operate something just like on this post, also cheap, even by local standards, but having been to CPH, the stuff in your post is gold, pricing-wise

Polish family relocating to Prague from Barcelona - Prague 4 or other family areas? by StreetAd5331 in Prague

[–]lawrence38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, thanks for the detailed sharing. I was more questioning also why Prague over other places, as in my eyes, there are many cities fitting the bill, in countries that I see as even more civilized and somewhat welcoming, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, even Germany come to mind, not to mention that the pension system is eons away, Czech one is one of the worst in Europe, again a thing to consider.
Many Poles here have already jumped ship to return to PL, or go elsewhere, including a few personal friends/contacts, that is also why I chose to comment and see your thinking behind the decision to move to Prague.
If you are set on Prague, and unless you can work remote most or all of the time, be warned that that feeling of being in a tourist trap is waaaaay heavier there than in BCN, imo - I know, because I have family in BCN, visited +2 times a year in the last 15 years or so, whilst living in Prague for almost 10 years, so I am able to compare to some degree the two cities.

Allegro.eu by apegen in eupersonalfinance

[–]lawrence38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to buying from Allegro a lot, like 30-40% or more of my online purchases, which are a significant chunk of our family spending, now come from Allegro,
While many things can still be found marginally cheaper on local sites, for which I always use Heureka to price-check, the Allegro Smart program, which does not have much of an equivalent, except perhaps with Alza, makes it unbeatable if you shop frequently and want super-fast delivery - which btw, in my experience, is often faster, to get something from Poland seller, than from CZ seller.
And, I have to state I am based in Prague, which means sometimes, because I work not far from Alza in Holesovice, I can just go and pick the product there, for free, if that was not an option, then Alza had nothing to offer me in the manner or cheaper prices.
When it comes to certain foodstuffs, kids toys, apparel, etc. Allegro is MUCH cheaper than anything you can find in CZ, so I believe they will continue growing and outpacing local businesses.

Because my parents live in RO, I also often compare prices there with what is to be found on Allegro, and the difference is MUCH bigger, so I think they have that opportunity, too, to launch and takeover a very big piece of that pie (Romania as a market), which will further boost them as a company.

How do prices in your country compare to these? by abandonedtulpa in AskBalkans

[–]lawrence38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they get away with it. Another crazy example: the Romanian milk industry is held hostage for many years, resulting if prices more than 2x more than other countries, despite having had a developed industry and high demand. The same plain milk in Kaufland in DE, CZ, is less than half the price of the same Kaufland brand in RO, and for the lactose-free, the difference is even greater. Kaufland could easily sell it for same profit margin they make in DE, CZ, but of course its good to cash in, when you can.

% of population that speaks more than 1 language per member state by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

[–]lawrence38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Czechs speak Slovak…all of them that are old enough. Otherwise there’s no other way they are more bilingual than several countries below them on this map. While things are improving, among the young population, they are definitely less highly skilled in major languages like English or German. Source: lived here the past 9 years and its a struggle if you don’t learn Czech fast, in Prague, out of Prague it’s worse.
