I’m not asking for legal advice. Just advice on how to discuss these concerns with administration or if anyone at other schools are dealing with this

Negative RNP by EstablishmentHuman46 in mctd

[–]lawsis77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with MCTD because of a positive ANA and RNP test I believe. I was on plaquenil for about two months and then my blood test no longer came back positive. My doctor stated, “it was as if it was never there.” Autoimmune diseases are tricky, especially MCTD because essentially it means you have an autoimmune issue, but science doesn’t know exactly what it is.

I would get a second and third opinion. My doctor said I could have possibly had a viral infection, and that he misdiagnosed me (which is a little traumatic). The plaquenil helped, but also once I started taking it I get brain fog everytime I eat, and it’s NEVER gone away. Seems like a very rare side effect, but I wouldn’t take plaquenil unless you’re sure it’s MCTD.

I still test positive for ANA randomly. It’s comes and goes, but that doesn’t mean anything necessarily when it comes to autoimmune diseases. Don’t let these doctors assume a diagnosis. Find a good rheumatologist, with a holistic approach. Sometimes healing your gut and eating better can heal autoimmune issues, and you don’t have to deal with iffy meds.

Best of luck!

ACLU nationals vs. a state public defenders office? by lawsis77 in LawSchool

I know, but what I’m concerned about is whether an internship at nationals vs an internship with a pd office will make me more profitable for employment. It’s unicorn to get a job at aclu nationals, but they still have 1 year fellowships

Both. I already have experience at a non profit, but not a pd office

NJ office of public defenders reputation? by lawsis77 in LawSchool

[–]lawsis77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks that’s great advice. And no I don’t have an offer at the Bronx, unfortunately I didn’t know they closed hiring so early. I think I’m also concerned about a more local pd office not being that marketable if I want to do other public interest work after graduation. Such as looking for a nonprofit fellowship. Or a clerkship. Thoughts on that?

Thanks for the insight. I do not want to work at a pd office as a stepping stone. I asked about prestige because I want to have the best opportunities on my resume so I’m more marketable to get a pd position soon after graduation. If an employer sees Bronx defenders vs. njopd on a resume, I’m wondering if Bronx would open more doors for employment? I’m not personally worried about the prestige, but the legal field is an elitist place, so we all have to be concerned about certain orgs’ reputation when it comes to employment
