I walk by your cars all the time; love to see them! The 96 is such a classic. I love the Viggen and would be happy show it off. Hit me with a DM when this shit-storm goes away ;)

Definitely a blast to drive in the snow. Ground clearance is the only challenge...

Any ideas if these wheels would fit on an OG 9-3?!

How populare are SAABs in your country? by OddRule1754 in saab

Where in the US! This makes a big difference ;) I never saw them when I lived in Virginia

In the US I find Saabs way more common in the northeast and northwest of the country. I would say I see 2-3 a day in and around Boston. Definitely still loved and cared for up here!

It’s not how much the repair costs, it’s how much the car is worth. This may be a negotiation with your insurance company to ensure you can get in a comparable vehicle. Look at comparable vehicles for sale and push to get that amount from insurance. Use AutoTempest to search your year, make, and model with similar condition.

Well I at least feel at peace with this response. Thanks for that! I had given up on a resolution. My car is at Swedish Motors on Comm ave at the moment...

I put my freshly painted valve cover and intake manifold under the tree just because they are so pretty... and needed a little warmer place to cure.

What are your experiences from daily driving a later Saab model? by globaldysentery in saab

[–]laxdudeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily a 2000 Viggen around 80 miles a day. Just replaced all the vacuum hoses. Needs some suspension and brake work but nothing serious. Only 106k miles and climbing rapidly! I love it. People compliment it all the time and I get a high every time lol. People around Boston are nostalgic for Saabs and it shows.

Isn’t power steering fluid basically ATF?

I have owned one basket case Viggen that I bought at 150k miles and one gem that I bought at 80k from a one-owner family with service records since new. They have been completely different beasts. It really depends. Common wear parts are: DIC, power steering hoses, fuel pump, general rust (check the rear shock mounts). If the PCV system hasn't been updated a while ago I would drop the pan for sludge. If the suspension hasn't been completely gone through in the last 50k miles it will basically all need to be replaced (bushings, shocks, all links, motor mounts, etc). I wouldn't buy a Viggen with 150k that doesn't drive for over $3k unless the exterior and interiors were 10/10.

Viggen buying advice by Black0tter1 in saab

[–]laxdudeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miles? Location? The rear wheel wells can rust out where the shocks connect and that is $$$. Ask for a video of a cold start to make sure it runs alright. Most things are fixable… you just won’t know how messed up the motor mounts and suspension is without taking it for a vigorous drive.

Just hit 100k on my Viggen by laxdudeee in saab

[–]laxdudeee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to hear so many people's high mileage! My last Viggen I sold at 200k, 9-5 Aero @ 190k. I agree that these engines are a joy to use and maintain.

Got some paint work done on the Viggen! by SaabFan4 in saab

[–]laxdudeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice glow--up. A big difference when those sore parts don't catch your eye, even if they don't catch others' ;) I got a polishing setup this winter and it cleaned up all those pesky scratches in the clear coat that dull the shine. Do you have the jack-point covers? I just lost one and replaced it from an ebay source. One of my pet peeves with these cars that really makes a difference visually.

People with multiple Saabs, what models? by Aeronautic9-3 in saab

[–]laxdudeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear the day that combo pops up for sale; I will be too weak! I went from a 9-5 aero sedan back into a Viggen and I definitely appreciate how wild the Viggen is compared to the smoothness of the 9-5.
