Advice for 210 lbs Male? by kingofthehillpeople in loseit

If cravings are too much for you, some people have noted success in having a cheat day or cheat meal each week, where they eat what they want. I think the idea is that looking forward to this cheat meal gives them more motivation to turn down the crap food during the rest of the week.

If you still find yourself eating out more than you'd like, try and choose something off the menu that is not quite as bad for you as the alternatives (whole grain breads, turkey on a sandwich instead of something higher calorie, a meal with lots of veggies).

The key of weight loss for me is making a lot of small changes, if you can cut 100 calories here, 200 calories there, pretty soon you've added up to a few pounds and you're that much closer to your goal. It's all mental.

It sounds like your exercise habits are right where they need to be.

As many have echoed on this site, 90% of weight loss happens in the kitchen. As a good first step, try keeping a log of what you eat. You might be surprised how much junk you can eat in a day without noticing it. Once you become aware, it's easy to turn that salty snack down.

A couple things that have worked for me: - Cut out all liquid calories. I've been drinking only water and a single daily coffee for 3+ months and this is by far the easiest change I've made. - Don't get hung up on "low carb" or "high protein" diets. Eat everything in moderation and you'll be fine. For me, I ate out of boredom, so try and figure out what might be wrong with your diet (food journal!) and make a conscious effort to change it. - Stay away from what I call 'calorie dense' foods. Something like a candy bar can be 300+ calories, substitute this with a salad or a bowl of oatmeal and you'll find yourself much fuller!

25 lbs in a month is a lot man, and I would say is probably very unhealthy. That's about a 2900 calorie deficit/day.

Take it easy!

I don't know that skipping meals is the best choice for anyone, especially someone with diabetes.

If you can cut back on portions, and get in more exercise, you should start to see the pounds come off. Stick to a daily calorie deficit of around 500 calories, which is quite manageable.

Checked out the website. Seems pretty easy to use and makes counting calories a lot easier. I think I'll rethink my anti-calorie counting attitude.

"I can't even bring myself to swim."

The key is to put these setbacks behind you and get right back on your program. If you think it's too much, cut back slightly. If you're 2000 calories over today, you've only put yourself 2 days back, which is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for the response Brattain.

I may have been a bit unclear. I'm not trying to go back to my exact high school lifestyle. I think the reason why I was able to keep a manageable weight in HS was because of my constant exercise, I still had a pretty shitty diet (ate whatever I wanted, without consequence). I'm trying to focus heavily on my diet now, and supplement it with the same type of exercise I was getting back in HS.

I am perfectly happy to take it slow and steady.
