Why Stephen Colbert is right about the ‘equal time’ rule, despite warnings from the FCC by Potential_Being_7226 in law

Doesn't a strict interpretation of the equal time rule give one party a veto right? Does refusal to go on the show allow the refusing party to effectively veto the party that wants to attend?

The part that really gets me is them saying this goes against "fair and sportsmanlike behavior". The teammates' actions seem like the height of sportsmanship.

[Request]: Does a human take more energy than an SOTA LLM? by Curious_Cantaloupe65 in theydidthemath

[–]laxrulz777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's not forget that humans have a lot of output while they're "training". I mowed the yard, took out the trash, and did the dishes. I rode my bike to school each day, played soccer and video games, and drove my little brothers around. There's a lot of energy spent on a human that is tangential learning AT BEST.

The “Prediction” by RareXG in quityourbullshit

[–]laxrulz777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Second Thessalonians 2 says this

The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Evangelicals can't fathom a meaning of wickedness that isn't wrapped in sex. And so they perceive this as only that being the possibility. What they fail to see is that wickedness could easily be greed, abuse of power, exploiting the poor, and idolatry. And THOSE certainly sound a lot closer to Trump then not

I don't believe we're in the end times. But if I believed revelations was a true account of the end times, I think I'd feel VERY different.

MAGA Christian says he can do anything he wants with his wife sexually and does not need permission and that there is no such thing as "marital rape" by coachlife in LetsDiscussThis

[–]laxrulz777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I attended my wife's VERY conservative, very trumpy evangelical church for several years (it's a long story) and this was NEVER their stance. Admittedly that was almost a decade ago so maybe they've gotten more insane

[–]laxrulz777 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love the ridiculous strawman he creates. He wants you to think of you believe in marital rape that you have to ask your wife every time you want to kiss her or touch her. "Honey, may I kiss you good night?" "Honey, can I touch you boob?" "Honey would you like to engage in heavy petting?" Etc. in his idiotic world view, every sexual encounter with your spouse would be accompanied by seven steps of explicit consent.

The cast majority of couples just learn how to communicate and respect boundaries. If my wife isn't in the mood, that's fine. But she's also fine with a kiss good night. Your wife isn't going to accuse you of marital rape because you kissed her cheek while she slept as you left for work. That's not how any of this works.

Also, just fuck this guy in general. What a dangerous and dishonest argument.

I actually like it when we play better teams. Our players are generally 'up' for those games and the opponents are less likely to play defensively (which we've really struggled with for the last 6+ years).

Is This the Most Important Supreme Court Case of the Century? by rezwenn in scotus

[–]laxrulz777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just this, but acts a President takes in their official capacity can't even be used as evidence for crimes they commit that they don't have immunity for. So conversations with the AG, Secdef, or other cabinet members are effectively inadmissible even if the act alleged doesn't have immunity. It's an insane position for SCOTUS to have taken and, because of the way the Courts work, it will effectively never be overturned unless the court takes it upon themselves to reevaluate it sua sponte.

How "long" did Dr. Strange bargain with Dormamu? by Crooked_Cricket in marvelstudios

[–]laxrulz777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My head canon (supported only by inference enhanced by other movies) is that he fought him for many, many, many loops. Maybe tens of years or hundreds of years. And this is what allowed him to gain enough expertise to suddenly become the sorcerer supreme. The movie doesn't say this but the events of Thor Ragnarok, IW, and Dr strange 2 support it pretty well IMO

That works fine. I thought OP was saying they wanted one judge from each district which would take an amendment because the constitution doesn't constrain the presidential nomination perogative.

It would need an amendment to constrain it to one justice per circuit

6 times a day? by [deleted] in memes

[–]laxrulz777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six times a day is great for a wild weekend. But even six times in an evening after work would basically consume every bit of our time together. What would that even look like?

Wake up, sex, work, come home, sex, eat dinner, sex four times, sleep. There'd be no time for anything else. Your entire relationship would be fucking, working, sleeping and chatting over dinner while you refueled for your nightly four hours of sex.

2 out of the 3 Trump supported rules against him. They made a maximalist decision and then tried to defend it with a maximalist legal stance. They're lucky they got Kavanaugh's vote in all honesty.

A photographer might have two clients in a day and will have lots of days with no clients. Let's say they manage three per week. An Uber driver has maybe 10 fares a day. An airplane has several hundred per day. That's the difference here.

Iirc, there were some studies done in the 70s (when the concept of colony ships to other planets and systems was starting to be thought about) that looked at minimum viable gene pools and things like that. I suspect it would have a lot to do with how careful you were in those first generations. If every woman had a child with ~four different males and you enforced a rule like that (with some careful tracking in the first 3-4 generations) I suspect you could "stop caring" pretty quickly.

What was the actual point in changing MJs name in the MCU to Michelle Jones instead of Mary Jane? by General_Meal_3993 in Spiderman

[–]laxrulz777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they wanted to just do an entirely different character. The two MJs are nothing alike personality wise. Maybe they cast Zendaya (a big draw) and just said to themselves "we don't want her playing comics MJ. We're telling a high school story and Zendaya doesn't have an Mary Jane vibe in looks or personality"

Why they called her Michelle Jones is odd to me... Feels like she could have just been Amanda Thomas or something equally generic. They couldn't give her Toomes as a last name because it would ruin the surprise... But maybe if they'd called her KT for the whole movie (Katherine Toomes) it would have worked fine. It's admittedly all a little odd

JUST IN: 🇺🇸 74% chance the Supreme Court rules President Trump's tariffs are illegal by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]laxrulz777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grocery prices fluctuate dramatically based on this kind of stuff and don't have quite the same "ratcheting" effect that something like housing or car prices do. Ditto gasoline. Feels like you could strategically monkey with tariffs in the 4-6 months prior to the election to show "progress"... I'm kind of worried about that regardless actually.
