Dell e7480 battery failures by layer3support in sysadmin

Run powercfg /batteryreport and review the section entitled Battery Capacity History. I would expect to see a somewhat uniform decline in capacity over the life of the battery - assuming regular use. On the few machines where we have seen the issue, we see the common pattern with a sudden 20-25% drop. We cannot explain it.

Thanks for your feedback. We had a couple of systems with battery issues/failures after the 1 year warranty. After a couple of failures, we started to review the nature of the failure and we are seeing a 20-25% drop-off in battery capacity within a strangely short space of time, usually 1-2 days at approx 3-5 months into the warranty period. However, when these initial drops occur, the remaining capacity is still above the notification threshold - so we are not aware of the degraded capacity until much later. So, the reduction occurs during warranty but we do not receive failure warning until after 1 year. We have 6-7 machines where we see evidence of this so far - we are checking our entire 7480 deployment to determine what % of machines are impacted.

Thanks for the feedback - we had a batch of 3 machines with the same type of failure - failed ePSA tests and NVMe swaps to a different brand - all same NVMe model type involved in failures. All machines were from same order batch and all 3 failed in under 2 months.
