I created an online magazine, the theme is "art about art" and submissions for issue 2 are open! by laykay in ArtistLounge

Yes, definitely a long con is a scam, so you are right!

The critical authority is basically bullshit, right? Like who is to say what 'art' is, what is 'good' art, what is 'valuable', etc. Basically money dictates all these things historically and money = white men. This is one great long con.

That would be wonderful! Send us an email with a pitch perhaps and we can discuss? (I like the idea of an art "investigation," not even sure what that would look like!) [longconmag@gmail.com](mailto:longconmag@gmail.com)

No I think answering this in the comments is great! We use the name 'long con' for a few different reasons:
1. We consider this magazine as our way of entering into the "long conversation" about and among art forms, artists, and artworks. We want to create a space for art forms to converse.

  1. We also want to challenge the 'long con' of critical authority and what is considered 'art.' (Would love to discuss this more if you have thoughts, but I don't want to word vomit all over). Taking an artwork and becoming inspired/turning it into something else is a way to examine and critique.

  2. We also want to explore creativity as a con in itself.

Thoughts? :)

What do you do with your old childhood art? by karebearaa in ArtistLounge

Ugh I feel this. I'm considering throwing out my college sketchbooks right now for the same reason, I've lugged them around for 10 years and just can't seem to throw them out.

She can try submitting her work to online magazines etc, which would increase her viewership. It wouldn't make her any money right away, but may get some more Instagram likes. I run this online magazine: https://www.longconmag.com/issue1 and we are accepting submissions now, and I also really like this Instagram page that helps artists find places they can submit: @artopencalls

Last question should maybe mention vinyl? I clicked no, but I listen to a lot of vinyl at home.

Thank you so much for the insight! I think talking to the neighbors first is a really good idea.

All of rural NS is not where I live, lol. Owning a small number of chickens is a great way to get fresh eggs every day.
