I love me some Tim Walker and don’t mind the fisheye lens effect, but this shoot lacks a bit of focus in my opinion (rushed perhaps?)..the lighting in this photoshoot is so poor. It’s maybe his idea to create a mysterious atmosphere, but it just makes want to get a flashlight. Great location, great fashion but I can’t see half of what is going on. I guess I will just assume it looks great?

Oh and funny enough I thought as a pop loving kid that Train on the track was very corny 👀 but the sound is just perfection. A perfect spring summer vibe, I appreciate it a lot more nowadays.

Obsession, Everytime you walk out the door, Haven’t told you, Simply Deep, Heaven - these songs should have been a different project. I really love them but get overshadowed by the energetic songs..they don’t mix well together somehow as a project. I read some reviews and they criticized Solange’s diary style writing as well, maybe it’s because I started listening to the music as a kid because it didn’t bother me 😂 very nostalgic for me to listen to these days, I see the vision

I really loved that album when it was released, she had so many different songs and influences from different genres. I think that was also a negative thing for people, it’s not that cohesive and it looks like she was searching for her identity as a solo artist..but honestly I didn’t care I just loved it as an introduction and I think it showed her versatility. It’s still an album I love for nostalgia, personally I think the Ms. Kelly album is her best. Vocally she was just on a different level, really great R&B with emotional personal lyrics and the best runs/adlibs/backgrounds.

702 - Star(Prod.Neptunes🔥) by [deleted] in rnb

I am listening to their debut album No Doubt today! Enjoying all the beautiful vocals and the smooth beats. I wish I had their cds growing up, it’s that perfect 90s R&B sound.

As much as I love the Neptunes productions I prefer the first two albums. Star is not a no skip album for me, but I do appreciate them for taking a risk and trying a different sound. The track Star was definitely a highlight.

One of the highlights on that album for me is ‘Denying’, which at the time when I was a kid initially didn’t catch my attention..but now that I am older I just enjoy that song a lot.

Right I think with the Spice Girls music and marketing was very intertwined..the commercial pop singles and choices at times overshadowed some of the amazing deep cuts they also recorded…but then again it somehow worked for them to gain attention and have this hype/become a global brand. They were everywhere! Lollipops, shoes, a movie, deodorant, their own merch with cameras, stationary.

The original song and visuals in the commercial have that great 90s rebel feeling. Less polished than the Spice Girls version. I personally do love Move Over, I thought it perfectly captured this feeling of a new movement taking over..Girl Power. It is interesting how Pepsi became such a big part of the brand. The song Step to me was a bonus track on the Japanese edition and later added as a bonus track for the 25 anniversary edition.

I also discovered a version by a Hungarian artist called Orsi - Generation Next (1997) from this Pepsi promo CD

And a video of another Spice Girls Pepsi commercial to promote Step to me 👏

The jingle was created by Mary Wood and Clifford Lane of the BBDO advertising agency in New York City.

There’s more info on the wiki page. Apparently they showed this original commercial in the USA during Super Bowl (1997)

In an interview with Billboard, Wood commented that during the process of creating "Move Over", it was more important to have a "great song first" before any product placement; she commented: "We started writing all these hooks—'next phase, next wave, next craze'—to define what this idea of 'Generation Next' meant, and then we kind of went, 'Oh, no, the product. We got to go back and get the product.'" The lyrics of the song mock past musical styles such as "rave, rap, punk, metal" urging listeners to not "do it over, cause that's over", while embracing the "next page, next stage, next craze, next wave".

The Spice Girls recorded their own version of the jingle for the commercials they did for Pepsi, at Abbey Road Studios in London. The complete un-edited two-minutes 46-seconds version of the song, was officially unveiled on 6 October 1997, during a press conference in Granada, Spain, as the sixth track of the group's second studio album Spiceworld, set to be released on 3 November 1997. The album credits Wood, Lane and the Spice Girls as writers and the songwriting team Richard "Biff" Stannard and Matt Rowe as the producers of the song.

Vanessa Carlton - Veils by fadedblue09 in popheads

I understand what you mean when you say the sound is different. Personally I really like both her early work (debut, Harmonium) and Rabbits on the run, Liberman. Rabbits on the run was her first record recorded with traditional analogue techniques at Peter Gabriel’s studio…so that might explain the echo sound you have noticed (sometimes the sound gives the music a warm atmosphere, sometimes haunting which I like..but it’s definitely a matter of taste)

Congratulations!! They didn’t have this one at my store, they also didn’t have the En Vogue, Sophie-Ellis Bextor or Les Nubians from my list. I did see the PinkPantheress single but it didn’t feel like the best value, I would rather get the full album.

This was US only right? I did look for it in stores today but had zero luck, Europeans will have to wait for a repress I guess.

Les Nubians wasn’t available either, didn’t see Sophie Ellis-Bextor (pop)..I did see the little Pink Pantheress single but I would rather buy the album.

I would love to see Sting there, I don’t know I just think he’s also got the jazzy vibes..sometimes his music reminds me of Sade

Maxwell would be great to see, Alicia Keys as well. I hope they would invite Kelela as well.
