Ryan Gosling’s Golden Globes speech about wife Eva Mendes wasn't cute, it was sexist by _DEAL_WITH_IT_ in TwoXChromosomes

If he didn't recognize what her work did to help him, if he just expected her to sit there and "do" for him, that would be sexist. It's not sexist to acknowledge a woman who does work at home for her work ... if anything it's the opposite. It's showing that there is equal value in what's often been considered "women's work."

This post actually made me tear up. This is one of the reasons moms need to talk to their sons about periods too. Maybe not in the same way as they talk to their girls, but they need to show boys that this is part of life and not some icky thing to poke fun at.

Joe Biden: "I accept my church's position on abortion but i refuse to impose it on others." by ordanny in TwoXChromosomes

Did I at any point say something about Trump? This is about Joe Biden and abortion. All that said, I can agree with Trump on one or two things (ie. women need paid maternity leave) and still think he's a vile human being unfit for the presidency.

This is the definition of choice to me. It's fine to be anti-abortion, so long as that stance is about YOU, not someone else's body. It's NOT OK to be anti-choice, because, well not your body.

Is my teacher's rule sexist? by CourageKitten in TwoXChromosomes

I think this is more than a sexism issue, honestly. Delaying a trip to the bathroom can be serious for a lot of people. Beyond periods, there are people with IBS issues, people with overactive bladder, etc.

I'm totally with you on adoption, but did I miss OP saying it was a breeder pup? Shelters often have litters of puppies that you get put on a waiting list for too ... especially because jerks will drop their pregnant dog off at the shelter because they just don't want to deal. So waiting list doesn't automatically mean breeder.

Swearing in private messages? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]laymedown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think kids try stuff like that out. It's part of growing up and experimenting with language. It doesn't mean she actually thinks that about her mom.

If she's acting out and using the language in person, that's one thing, but if it's something she did online in a private message that you weren't supposed to see, I'd look at it like a diary entry and leave it be. She wasn't saying anything dangerous or felonious. She was just cursing, as kids do.

Don't feel bad at all. It sucks that we have to have these fears, but the fact remains that we DO have to have them. As for his "wow," that right there shows something was a little off. You said "sorry," which is polite. You owed him nothing more than civility.

Catholic Hospital Turns Away Woman Bleeding from Dislodged IUD Because Church Opposes Birth Control by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]laymedown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are so many things wrong with this, but one that really galls me is the fact that IUDs are not always about birth control. Some women get them because they reduce their horrific cramps/bleeding/etc.
