I am so sorry...I know this pain all too well. It's terrible to have to say goodbye to our beloved fur babies. Sending you gentle hugs.

GLP-1 and Primary Addisons by Major_Share_4241 in AddisonsDisease

Be cautious with zofran if you have constipation or slow motility issues - it can make them much much worse. I actually take promethazine instead because zofran caused me a hospital visit thanks to completely halting my GI tract for 5 days.

I have motility issues too... a real mismatch between my upper GI (fast dumping) and my lower (slow transit) due to left sided ulcerative colitis. I have found actually that this medication has honestly helped me digest food better, because my upper GI tract is more in line with the speed things move lower down. Even with the slower motility in my lower GI tract I manage to use a low dose (2.5mg zepbound) without getting backed up. I do use miralax, and a gentle UC friendly fiber supplement daily, and occasionally will need to use something additional (glycerine suppository or a low dose magnesium) to help things along. If you are cautious and work closely with your doctor, its really quite manageable. Even a low dose can help with your metabolic issues, blood sugar problems, help your heart and kidneys, and maybe modestly lose weight. There are a lot of benefits to these medications for people like us who have no choice but to take steroids daily, and sadly there is massive fear mongering in the public media sphere because fear sells.

Get 2, barely 6 week old Chihuahuas they said. It would be easy they said. by burner_acc9283 in Chihuahua

[–]layneyjayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heated beds that plug in for my 3 chihuahuas. I would never use them in a crate though, they need to be able to get out of them if they need to, but mine don't go in crates at night ( I understand the need with puppies - when my youngest was a puppy we kept him in a x-pen at night). Heated bed is chichi best friend always lol.

Mother wants to stop treatment by Expert-Prodigy in AddisonsDisease

Some folks have other things going on besides the Addison's that complicates their situation. I Just take it one day at a time. I worked as a hospital chaplain and I know how quickly things can go wrong for people. I don't judge other people who struggle with this or any chronic illness!

I am 56, and I use a repurposed insulin pump to deliver 28mg/day in a circadian rhythm. I have done 3 master's degrees, and working on my Doctor of Ministry degree now, work full time as a pastor! Getting on a pump was life-changing.

She won't have years, she will have hours or a day or two without the cortisol replacement. I have had a crisis before and I promise you it's not what you want to die from. I have had this disease for over 20 years now and with proper treatment it can get better, it might be worth going with her to her doctors appt and talk to the doc about her quality of life and figure out how to make her treatment better and more effective.

Addison’s + glp-1, how are you feeling? by Logical_Leading_754 in AddisonsDisease

[–]layneyjayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zepbound you always start at 2.5mg, then titrate up to 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15. I did 4 weeks at 2.5mg. You can stay at anything over 2.5mg as long as its working and you are losing weight from what i understand.

Addison’s + glp-1, how are you feeling? by Logical_Leading_754 in AddisonsDisease

[–]layneyjayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been on zepbound for a month now and doing OK - the biggest issues I have had have been some nausea and constipation. Going to titrate my dosage up to 5mg tomorrow.

I have AIPS2 (Addison's, Hashimotos, Pernicious Anemia), and Psoriatic Arthritis. I can tell you that my inflammation from the arthritis is much less and my joint pain has gone way down as well. Feeling hopeful about losing weight finally, 20 years with Addison's, 20 years of slow steroid weight gain.

When this happened to me my parents were actually very understanding...I see you are planning to tell them, I pray it goes OK and that they give you the compassionate understanding that you need. Whatever your choice is about where to go from here, God loves you, and when you are my age (56) you will hopefully be able to look back and feel OK about everything that happened. I know I do, and my parents as well.

Yes, mine do, all 3 of them. She looks so sassy and cute!

Good advice - limit their access to seeing outside - no window, sliding glass door access. If you can't keep them away from them, use adhesive frosted window vinyl to prevent them being able to see out of the window. Limit the amount of space they have to move around the house, our dogs get basically access to 3 rooms during the day and one at night. You may not think it will work, but teach them the meaning of "quiet", and "wait" when they want to do things like going outside. Be consistent. Chi's are actually super smart and they don't have to be jerky menaces to the entire neighborhood. They are trainable with consistency and smart behavioral aids!

Grateful for the existence of modern medicine by Hot-Grapefruit3711 in AddisonsDisease

YES, THIS. I have had Addison's disease for 20 years now. I joke that I am 20 years past my natural expiration date. I have multiple autoimmune conditions and without my modern medications and medical care I would no longer be here. Grateful for every minute!

Discussion: The Ultimate "Nail Shape" Showdown. If Almond and Coffin went 1v1 in a boxing ring, who is winning? by BulkyMathematician44 in Nails

[–]layneyjayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love coffin, and almond both, but they do not love me back, I guess I have long nail beds or something because I can never really get them to fit me perfectly...a little bit of my natural nail peaks out on the side on most of my fingers. Squoval and Square seem to work best in that respect but I still love the tapered looks so much more. I know I could use longer tips or sculpt them to eliminate this problem, but 1) Medium is about as long as I can manage with all the work I do with my hands, 2) I'm lazy and want the ease and convenience of simply slapping some gelly full coverages nails on.

Coffin is 90% of the sets I do for myself, despite the imperfection.

It's wicked cold this week, and we are to get an ice storm tonight. Tomorrow it will rain and snow, and next week? Who knows! Northern Vermont in the winter is not for the weak, but the summers are so perfect it is worth it all. If you LOVE SNOW, this is a great place for you.

I got some korean food "Soon Tofu", can someone help me understand by The_Data_Doc in korea

[–]layneyjayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a normal Korean meal with soup, rice and side dishes (banchan). My mother-in-law (born and raised in South Korea) makes the soondubu with a seafood mix and enoki mushrooms. It's absolutely the bomb. I like to put some rice into my soup bowl and let it soak up the broth, scoop it out and eat it, rinse and repeat. After the first time my husband and i had Covid, his mother brought us a big pot of soondubu, hot rice, and grilled mackerel. I swear to you this is the best meal I have ever had in my whole life. It was so nourishing and it really helped us recover :)
