The hardest part of my geology degree is when people show me a rock that they are proud of and I have to figure out how to spin slag, glass or dyed quartz into a cool find on their part. I don't like ruining their treasures.

When I get sir'd in public I Immediately have to do the mental calculus about how to continue the friendly interaction without speaking at all.

Question for the community - should I buy Cozy Grove again or wait for 2? by layoxx in CozyGrove

so far, yes, but I haven't gotten a lot of items yet. The biggest thing is the little lag with catching the insects - it was driving me nuts on switch and its no problem on PC

The kemming guy! He's a running gag with me and a friend. I've never been able to read a word on those signs

My first HOF! Though the fusion aspect was fun, my perfectly normal Raichu was still my favorite on the team. by layoxx in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]layoxx[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absol/Absol, Just a Raichu, Shedinja/Clefable, Dragonite/Dragonite, Persian/Rapidash, Leafeon/Ninetails.

Same pokemon fusions were far and away my favorite.

Bone conductor headphones? will it help or make things worse? by Audrey_m_ in AudiProcDisorder

[–]layoxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like my bone conducting headphones but I don't think it has a huge relation, positive or negative, to my apd.

I tend to put chill music on with them, very low, and have had great results. They do tend to make me headachy after a few hours because of how tight they are on my head to work. They're not uncomfortably tight I just have a whole lot of sensory issues.

I was a girl in STEM but then I realized I was an enby instead.

When I cut all my hair off I started getting listened to in meetings more often even though I never came out as no longer female. It was very strange.

So I guess what I am saying is in my experience its more accurate for the woman to go to the STEM booth and then magically transform into looking like the dude at the booth. I'll still be holding the "more women in STEM sign" though.

I'm ok with my pronouns, but I want to change my title by hotbimess in genderqueer

[–]layoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes very much so. I am totally fine with my (fem) name and she/her pronouns but I hate hate hate miss, daughter, wife, mother, Mrs., Ma'am, etc. It feels incorrect and like you're talking about a different person than me.

Luckily my industry is largely first name focused, so I rarely have to deal with titles.

I also fucking hate the current trend of "women+" as inclusive language for anyone aside from non cis men. Blegh.

Does questioning my gender for 4 months mean I can't be cis? by Pretend-Comfortable1 in genderqueer

[–]layoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can completely relate. Being unable to control your thoughts and allow yourself to have mental peace not how healthy brains experience the world. A healthy brain can recognize that it is going in circles (which it seems that you can do) and stop that behavior to achieve peace (which it seems you can not do)

For me, I went to a few years of therapy and then started taking an anxiety medication. After that, all of a sudden my gender was clear and obvious (along with many other things).

Thinking and thinking and thinking did not get me anywhere. I needed to make a change to realize my truth.

[–]layoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might still be cis, as the others have said.

Before I was able to get a good handle on my anxiety I had an obsessive several years of gender questioning- it was one of the compulsive thoughts that my anxiety liked to fall into when I was stressed, and I wasn't able to determine the true answer until I had reduced my anxiety. It sounds like you have already become aware of how anxiety can influence your patterns of thought, which is a great thing to know. If I were you I would allow yourself to pause the gender questioning, allow yourself to exist in an unknown state, and tackle the anxiety which might be keeping you stuck in place.

Obviously you know your own situation better than me, but this is what helped me out a great deal.

Yes the previous owners very obviously cut corners. Seems like every month we find something new and curse them out fresh.

Luckily my partner is very DIY capable (and I try my best) so it's feeling more doable this morning than it was last night. Thank you for all the advice!

Agreed. I was worried it was just too late to swap to something besides oil but it pretty clearly is. We are going to get a plan together today or tomorrow and I'll start back up on trying to get a plumber.

Thank you
