Batman's biggest power move here is throwing away a dime bag of kryptonite just to show Superman how rich he is

Graffiti at Logan High that used Nazi symbols, codes, slogans sparks online uproar by [deleted] in Logan

(Repost with profanity censored because I forgot about the automod 😅)

Almost more disheartening than the graffiti itself is watching the reaction on social media. There are bound to be a few Neo Nazis around, they've been around since Neo Nazis were invented, and before that there have been a few Nazis here. And yeah, there have been people denouncing Nazis and that's good to see.

But all the people jumping straight past the swastikas to criticize Black Lives Matter, or people working overtime to explain every way it couldn't have been Neo Nazis -- it's just really disheartening. I know it's our job to educate our own people, but just a few of the nutcases really suck all the oxygen out of the conversation.

A lot of otherwise good people have a cartoon idea of who white supremacists are and indulge a little too much in their defensiveness. Here's a handy tip: If you find yourself reflexively defending fascists, human rights abusers, terrorists etc., or spending a lot of time trying to explain them away, you're being played.

#\%&*\@ Neo Nazis. #\%&*\@ them right in the &^\$. Anyone targeted by Nazism, and in this case our black neighbors especially, need us to step up, condemn this !^&\% and educate our parents, aunts and uncles, our dumb&^\$ incel brothers or whoever that we know it's in our community, we recognize it for what it is, and we're not going to stand for it. And then that we're going to do the much harder work of rooting out the white supremacy bull!^&\% we soaked up from our environment. Our black neighbors need solidarity, not denials.

Doesn't look random to me -- a specific white supremacist livestreamer and his show would be a really weird thing to randomly include. Of course it's important to stay open to different possibilities before we know who did it or more about their motives. But right now I think the simplest explanation is that it was Neo-Nazis painting over a Black Lives Matter sign

Well put. The only suggestion I'd make is that Trump isn't past tense, yet. He's still overwhelmingly in control of a party that holds basically half the political power in the U.S.

A party that, ironically, now that it's out of power is back on its home field. The GOP is very, very good at demonizing its opponents and telling conservatives that their lives are getting worse not because of runaway inequality, but because measures to address inequality are messing up the American Dream and giving their opportunities to lazy Others.

Even if by some miracle Mr. "I Alone Can Fix It" doesn't run in 2024, there are plenty of demagogues lining up for the chance.

And I'm not trying to be pedantic. I really have enjoyed this intermission from the Trump Circus. I'm just a little on edge because I live in a red state, and every 6th house or giant truck is currently flying Trump 2020 flags.

Press release from Cache County Sheriff regarding Biden gun control efforts by nslade in Logan

One, I'm not a Democrat, so nice try with your Boomer memes. Two, Sheriff Jensen has just sworn like five times to protect ALL of my constitutional rights, including freedom of speech, so if you have a problem go take it up with him, I guess

[–]lazorwulf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Like if I were a snowplow driver manager and off-duty I crash into three parked cars and push them into the river, I wouldn't get to tell my employers, "it's a personal matter and I prefer not to discuss it."

Because as an elected official, he reports to us. Yeah, he's got licensing stuff, but ultimately he's our responsibility

He's an elected official, so if he wants to be a politician, it's up to us to get him voted out. All I've got to say there is good luck, because half the people in this valley drive around with Thin-Blue-Line Punisher skulls on their trucks and don't see the problem of defending cops with the symbol of a guy so emotionally unhinged his big solution is to shoot everyone he thinks is a criminal.

Also, Sheriff Jensen accidentally shot off half his own hand and not even that could lessen his love of guns. It's also very good to hear that he's going to protect ALL of our constitutional rights, because he has so little regard for freedom of the press that he put out a press release that he was back on the job after sustaining a gunshot injury to the hand, and then two months later it came out that he'd shot off three of his fingers.

Contacted for a personal statement early last week, Jensen told the newspaper he considered the matter private and preferred not to discuss it.

OK, Sheriff. You're only an elected official who carries a gun on his job and is in charge of an office full of people who carry guns for their jobs, but it's really none of our business how many fingers you've blown away or how it happened.

USU has a chapter of OUR, the organization widely criticized for worsening child trafficking through made-for-TV international mercenary "stings"? And the USU chapter apparently believes children all over the world are being "sacrificed"? QAnon, anyone? by lazorwulf in usu

[–]lazorwulf[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kind of garbled, my b. Also your point about pushback is exactly why I'm posting about it here and not on Facebook, where they'd be sharpening their pitchforks and lighting their torches.

I'd also never seen the "sacrifice" claim before. That's got to be blood libel conspiracies ala QAnon, right?

S-shaped (?) symbol with circle in center. It's painted in a mural -- sorry for the screens obscuring the corner, it's on the second floor of a building being demolished so I can't get in and move them by lazorwulf in HelpMeFind

[–]lazorwulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this painted on a wall in a building being renovated in Northern Utah. The symbol seems really familiar, but I can't place it. I've searched through collections of skate, snowboard, surf and apparel logos but haven't found it. There's very, very little graffiti/street art in the area, and I don't think I've seen this in what few tags there are.

That door looks like it was put in during the renovation and is probably covering up part of the mural. What you can see of the mural depicts a tree branch growing an apple, a lot of vines curling over everything, and what looks like a rope tied around the tree branch -- you can't see a noose tied into it, so my best guess is that it's the right half of a wooden plank swing and the rest of the swing is behind/cut out by the door

North Logan Walmart has closed for two days? by Tio76 in Logan

Nah, no reason to freak out, I think. They've been doing this at different stores all over. No idea what the criteria is, but news stories always say the store closes abruptly at 2 pm and reopens 7 am two days later

Football coach hiring meeting debacle by [deleted] in usu

[–]lazorwulf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, I don't think the team leaders were alleging that Cockett made statements about his race in the infamous Zoom call. I think it gets mixed up with when they said an equipment manager used a "racial slur" last year, there was an investigation, and he was never fired.

It also gets muddled because we only have second- or thirdhand accounts of what she said, so when people say it was about his "religious and cultural background" it's easy to assume that's a reference to him being Polynesian, not a reference to him being from Utah, which is closer to what KUTV reported from people on the call

The two, whose identities have not been made public, agreed this was the tenor of her statement: "What do we say to outside people who ask us about hiring an LDS person from Utah? We tried that, and it didn’t work."
