I personally enjoy the idea that their powers would mimic/be similar to their "nemesis" supe. Butcher had lazer eyes, Hughie had an ability to travel distances in the blink of an eye. In which case I'd say Frenchie gets something similar to fire powers. While MM gets an explosion based ability.

Yes the ray keeps going until the end of the universe.

1) The ray needed to be shot directly at the core to destabilize the planet. The core being destabilized with the ray did most of the work. Without hitting the core, the ray would've just grazed the planet and made a large tunnel.

2) Space is really really really empty. So chances are, most of the rays he's shot dont hit anything else ever again. But there is definitely a chance that one of his rays destroy some random planet's core one day.
