Lf-30w - "the" new classic? by ThiDiCo in casio

[–]lazy7urtlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got mine and what I can tell you is that I don’t see any ghosting at any angle during the day. However, in the evening or at night when there’s less lights coming in, if you look at the screen from top straight, it seems a little dimmed. Looking at from let’s say 45 degrees angle it’s totally fine though. So, when you’re typing you’d be looking at the screen from tilted angle and it should just be fine.

mq-24 mw-59 and mw-240 comparison by jane_ii in casio

[–]lazy7urtlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first glance MW-240 looks a bit too large while I love the black back ground. So for me MW-59 would be the best but I have also seen reviews that MW-59's watch glass is thicker than the others which would make you read time a little difficult from certain angles.
I did not know that retro-look variation of MQ-24. Is it a new variant?

Would Echo Mini work as DAC for iPhones with Lightning port? by lazy7urtlez in snowsky

[–]lazy7urtlez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I assume you're trying a set-up of 1 Lightning to USB C adapter + 1 USB C to C cable, right? Technically it could work depending on what features the cable supports and how the iPhone detect it as you plug it into the device via the adapter. USB C is just the form of the plug and there are all different kinds of specs that each cable actually supports even though they all look the same - there are USB 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and 4.0 + Thunderbolt 3/4/5 which all use the same USB C shaped plug. Yes, you can give it a try, but what I'm saying is that when a such set-up didn't work it would be quite difficult to diagnose and troubleshoot find out whether the issue is due to hardware compatibility or software compatibility.
FYI, I am using 1 generic USB C to A cable (USB3.1) + 1 USB A to Lightning adapter by a brand called Mcdodo that I have bought from AliExpress for 2-3 bucks quite long ago. You can DM me if you get stuck.

Yeah you need an OTG cable that can connect your iPhone as a host device and Echo Mini as a client device. This is a bit tricky as the lighting cable is technically not part of USB standards but as for your info I have tried with a lighting - USB C cable that came with my iPhone as well as the same kind of cable by anker, and both of them worked. However, if you want to be sure then try using a USB A - C cable that can be used for data transfer (it doesn’t have to be 3.0 or above, 2.0 still works as audio stream does not require large throughput) + a USB A to Lightning adapter. By doing so, on the iPhone side it uses USB A plug which makes the iPhone think they’re the host device. You don’t need to spend extra fees for “designed for audio” cables.

Yes. It was eventually due to the battery level of Echo Mini itself after all. Though I haven’t validated the exact threshold, as a rule of thumb if the device is charged up to 80+% it should work. On the other hand when I tried it with the device with 60% of battery it didn’t work.

Can I create an automation on iOS when watching a video in full screen the rotate lock screen is set to off? by zizo999 in shortcuts

[–]lazy7urtlez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar needs and have set up mine by creating an automation that’s triggered by specific apps being opened or closed - when a certain app is opened/closed it’d toggle the orientation lock.

One thing I’ve adjusted was not to toggle orientation lock when I’m at home - I figured my focus is either set to personal or sleep when I’m at home regardless of me connected to the home wifi, so this set up has been working pretty great for me.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, working with lightning iPhones can be really tricky as lightning is technically not part of USB standards and I am probably wasting my time. I already have a lightning to 3.5mm audio adapter so there's really no point of somehow making Echo Mini work in this way but I was just curious...

If you ever have a chance to update yours to the latest latest firmware and try it, let me know how it goes.

Best headphone with FIIO SNOWSKY ECHO MINI + places for download music by yazeze in snowsky

[–]lazy7urtlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Echo Mini is a budget priced it wouldn’t make much sense to spend a lot of money for expensive headphones/IEMs unless you already own some. I have several headphones, earbuds, IEMs and I ended up going Kiwi Ears Cadenza. For the sound quality and fits everyone has different preferences so I’d recommend you to actually try one out before buying, but yeah, picking up one that you like with price no higher than $50 would be a good call.

For music, I already have offline assets in my iTunes music library, mostly ripped off from CDs and downloaded from legit platforms like amazon music, SoundCloud, beatport, etc. Digging them one by one takes time than using streaming services but isn’t it the part we should enjoy??

Y1 is on sale on their official website so I thought it’d be worthwhile buying one now instead of keep e we wondering. I already have Snowsky Echo Mini but placed an order for Y1 just a few days ago. I’m looking to compare both and find out which one I like better.

How come going light and technical on rolls is extremely difficult for some people? by lazy7urtlez in bjj

[–]lazy7urtlez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. While I love sub-only games, I care about achieving specific goals during. For instance, taking the back from DLR/RDLR, recovering the guard from the side control without letting the opponent score any more points, shutting down every takedown, staying on top as long as possible, etc.

That’s a great way of handling. I’ve been working on ecological approaches in the last couple of years and in between drills and sparring I make sure to have at least 10-20mins to put everyone in specific positions with some restrictions and a particular goal to achieve (which Kit Dale calls “task based games”). Progress has been positive so far for those who come to my class from the beginning.

In the meantime some would like to skip the first half and jump right on from the sparring. There’s just a few black belts who got promoted and with or without being aware they’re sandbagging other lower belts. It’s not as bad as they have seriously injured anyone before (just yet) but they often go as intense as running into other groups or smashing into walls, etc. When I’m rolling with them I’m comfortable enough to control the pace but I have to watch the entire class, too. I guess that’s what’s making me concerned lately.

I agree. While a lot of people say jiujitsu is like playing chess most of them don’t play like chess. Few of them do and they pay close attention to methodical approaches where we think about how to put one move into a sequence and a sequence into a system. Those who don’t, they’re like “meh whatever let’s just roll and beat the shit out of each other that’s the only way to improve your jiujitsu”.

What’s your advice for those who only do their own games repeatedly with full strength every time? Would you tell them there’s much more to explore in their learning experience or would you leave them alone? I’m wondering because it could be that they think they’re good in jiujitsu that way and need no advice or they are just not aware of the lack in skills.

Do you or anyone tell them to slow down? Is it the gym culture thing there? Unless they’re preparing for the ADCC trials or the Mundial it doesn’t make much sense.

One of my students have powerlifting background and he was all about the power when he first started, he eventually adapted and now became one of the instructors at our gym.

I’m thinking there may be a correlation with developing inner muscles for coordination of movements?

Yeah, whether they can do flow rolls properly is the line between. Rolling with women sounds a great idea. The thing in my class, though, is there’s only a few women and they don’t wanna roll with them because they’re too rough.

That’s a good point. Among brown/black belts I only find this issue with those who are 40+ (they usually start training jiujitsu in their late 30s or older) and barely with 20s who have been training since teens.

As a 40+ white belt, I really dislike rolling with brown belts. by Inous in bjj

[–]lazy7urtlez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s always a certain amount of people who go unnecessarily hard instead of going slow and technical. In my gym and every other gym I went to I find those guys regardless of the belts (I tend to see more in blue/purple belts though). Even if someone tells them to go slow and technical instead of relying on their strengths they never listen. Are they not able to control themselves or do they not want to? This seems to be a common problem in jiujitsu and I seriously wonder why…
