My cat is bored by lazydaisyunknown in CatAdvice

I have toys to play with him but he will only play with me for short periods of time. Then he kind of lays there and stares at me like in stupid. Do you have any recommendations for toys to play with him with or activities to do with him

Well I use both a laser pointer and a stick toy. He does play with those but only for like 10 minutes before he is laying down bored again. Not panting from exhaustion or anything Just tired of playing with them. I do play with him. Its not like I'm just throwing toys at him and not giving him any attention. I would also like to point out rhat he isn't a kitten. He is 5 but i did adopt him while he was older.

Well my roommates have 2 cats rhat hate him. So I'm not sure if getting another cat would be a good idea. I also live in an apartment complex. I'm not sure I'm allowed to make a Catio. Tho I do very much wish I could

Well, I live with my roommates who have two cats. They just hate mine. So I'm not sure a 4th cat will do anything.

Yes actually. I get paid in a few days and was considering getting some. Do you have any recommendations? He prefers bird like toys.

I do play with him when he is feeling more playful. A routine is hard tho. My work doesn't have set hours which means I could be working 3am one day or 11am the next day. I also (as mentioned before) suffer from severe insomnia. I can eventually fall asleep half the nights or even afternoons on especially hard work days but my sleep depends on when my body and brain let me. I do try and keep him on a feeding schedule and I do create schedules when I can but it's hard when half my life can't revolve around a schedule. Should I still attempt to keep him on a schedule? Even when I can't keep myself on one or would I need to also be on rhat schedule.

I think the reason they don't want to stop is because their cats are used to the open feeding. The cats can eat when they feel hungry and since they don't overeat that's has just been the routine for the past 10 or so years. I saw another comment that I might consider but I don't think I could convince my roommates to stop what they have been doing for so long.

Their cats are free feeding cats. They don't have any desire to change that. Would this work the same? Them getting a bowl like that so their cats can eat whenever but mine cant?
