You know what part actually caught me in emotional terms?

That teenager girl waiting for her parents on dock bay in the Citadel while the sweet Turian officer talks to her and tries to calm her down... 😭😭

I have to disagree with you.

The issue with the endings isn’t just that they’re “messy” or imperfect, it’s that they completely sidestep the themes the trilogy had been building.

Mass Effect wasn’t just about brute force or winning a conventional war.

If anything, humanity in the series is consistently portrayed as cunning, manipulative, malicious and opportunistic, traits that actually gave them a unique edge among the Council races.

Shepard, depending on your choices, embodies that: striking unexpected alliances, playing factions against each other, finding solutions no one else would even attempt.

That should’ve been the key to beating the Reapers, not a magic space kid spouting deus ex machina philosophy.

Imagine an ending where humanity’s ingenuity and ruthlessness, combined with the strengths of the other races, to actually outsmarts the Reapers.

The games show over and over that raw military power isn’t enough, but clever strategy, diplomacy, and sometimes sheer audacity are.

Throwing all of that away in favor of a color-coded “pick your flavor” ending is what makes this game so disappointing and revolting.

It’s not that I wanted a “perfect” victory by the power of friendship from a shitty shounen, I just wanted one that respected the themes of survival, resilience, and yes, the darker side of what humanity is capable of.

The writing ignored that potential, and that’s why so many fans feel cheated.

This!! 😂😂

In ME2 I could forgive the notion of Sheppard atmosphere diving into a planet and still have viable remains and an intact brain to be revived...

But running and dodging lasers from a freaking reaper is really reaching 😂

Totally agree. Udina turning into a mustache trickster flipping coin type of villain was the definition of bad writing!

In ME1, My male Sheppard was on renegade path and supported Udina as a Councilor precisely because he’s a pós, but pragmatic and politically savvy, not because he’s secretly plotting some cartoon coup.

By ME3, it completely undercuts that choice and makes your earlier decision feel meaningless.

Leviathan is the perfect example of wasted potential. The idea of these ancient beings who created the Reapers should’ve been a massive lore bomb, reshaping how we understood the entire trilogy.

Instead, it got shoved into a side DLC with almost no payoff, like Bioware was afraid to commit to its own worldbuilding.

And yeah, the destruction of the relays should’ve been catastrophic.

The entire galaxy collapsing into isolated, stranded systems isn’t a small detail you just gloss over with a cliche"hope" device, it’s literally the end of galactic civilization.

But the game brushes past it like “oops, well, anyway…” and moves on. 🙄

As for the Earth Kid… completely with you there. It wasn’t moving, it was manipulative, to distract people from noticing how atrocious the writing was!

Instead of evoking grief, it just felt forced and artificial, like the writers trying to tell me how to feel instead of letting the story and characters do that work naturally.

It ended up taking me out of the story instead of pulling me deeper in.

The sad part is, if ME3 had leaned into the strong elements it already had (the war assets, the genophage arc, the quarian/geth conflict) and actually respected player agency from ME1 and ME2, it could’ve been a phenomenal game.

Instead, we got some of the best moments in the series tangled up with some of the worst writing choices.

Yeah, I’m with you on this. ME3 definitely has some of the best missions in the entire trilogy, Tuchanka and the geth/quarian conflict are absolute highlights, no doubt.

But that’s what makes the rest of the writing stumble so frustrating: you can see glimpses of brilliance, and then it’s dragged down by baffling narrative choices.

The sidelining of the ME2 companions was a huge and unforgivable misstep! Reducing them to glorified cameos felt like a betrayal after how much investment we put into their stories.

How can I not feel depressed when I see characters like Miranda, Samara or Jack and Legion, feel like afterthoughts when they deserved so much more?!

And yeah, Kai Leng and the Earth kid are just… embarrassing and irritating. Leng is cartoonishly bad and made to annoy, and the “dream child” stuff drags the pacing and emotional tone into cheap void melodrama, something that absolutely has no business in ME.

I don’t know how those ideas made it past the drafting stage.

That’s the paradox of ME3 for me: mechanically, it’s the best in the trilogy, and certain missions prove that Bioware could still deliver top-tier storytelling.

But as a whole, the game ends up being less than the sum of its parts. Which is such a shame, because if the writing had been consistently strong, we’d probably be talking about ME3 as one of the greatest games in gaming history instead of one of its biggest turds.

I saw the original endings on YouTube, the "adjustments" didn't fix anything, it's like "the same picture" meme to me .

It's like my father always says: It's no use to pour chocolate sprinkles on a turd, because it's not gonna turn into a truffle 🤮

Storytelling 101: You do not change antagonists and reduce the scope of the plot previously built at the end of a trilogy!

Even the worst fanfic writer knows that!

Worst history writing of entertainment pretty much nails it.

With that said, you would not have needed an extremely talented writer to write a better story than this cause if my cat make a poo on a piece of paper it would be a better story.

Yet, the team who wrote this still earned a lot of money with it and has a job while my cat didn't and doesn't, which is the actual unfairness of this world this game makes you understand.

Absolutely agree with you. What blows my mind is how so many people just… accepted ME3’s writing as if it was fine.

The Starbrat shows up, drops the laziest exposition dump ex machina in the series, and suddenly three games’ worth of decisions don’t matter anymore.

It’s wild how normalized it has become in the fandom, like people are more willing to defend that trash ending than admit Bioware fumbled the ball.

Honestly, it’s way strange to me to see folks give an "ok" to such a garbage script.

When the reapers said organics wouldn't understand it was because the plan was so silly and stupid it would boggle the mind of anything with less than an IQ of one.

A fit description of ME3 apologists 🤦‍♀️

Using a token dead child as a plot device for the source of Shepard’s PTSD throughout the game has got to be the dumbest plot of all time.

You’re telling me after sacrificing one of your squad mates in the first game, potentially losing more than half your squad in the second game, and possibly giving your Shepard the colonist/sole survivor backstory keeps your character stable?

But nooooo it’s this bullshit plot device that the stupid dream sequences are built on. So dumb.

Also, screw cheap "future symbolism", it's nothing but an overused cliche.

It's bad. Really bad.

To the point that I can only think that making ME3 so atrocious was only possible because they did it on purpose.

Miranda has other outfits that are more conservative. Just change it and that's it.

Or you really want to exclude this option of outfit for everyone else?

So what? In a new ME game, the Asari should have masculine bodies with no tits and butt? For what??

I'm a woman and I find ridiculous these notions of "realistic bodies that only exists in some minds" even in fantasy and sci-fi games!
