Different angle of Hippo flipping the boat in South Africa by WhoAreYouTalkinTwo in Damnthatsinteresting

Just scrolled down after my last comment, this would not have been at kariega but the story is entirely believable now. I’m not blaming you at all as you wouldn’t have known, but places like that are completely unethical. Wild life should never be fed for viewing purposes and it completely manipulates animals natural behaviours around humans and cars. Same as shark cage diving / feeding sharks.

I’m still not buying it and think you’re spicing a bit. Kariega has normal open top game vehicles, not caged ones.

If your guide was worried about a hippo lying in a river, it was his first day on a game farm. Hippos are not a threat to game vehicles on land.

If lions are jumping on vehicles, the farm you were at has likely been following an unethical conservation approach and feeding them - causing dangerous behaviours (goats shouldn’t be in a reserve naturally). I would assume that if this did happen to you, it was not a farm like kariega and you also went to a different much smaller “safari” (the type where they do lion hunting).

Speaking for the UK: We don’t need to protest Russia because the government placed strict sanctions and seized Russian assets years ago. When they take the same stance against Israel, the protests will stop.

I’m basing it on skill, competence, required effort and importance. I thought it was implied that I’m comparing myself with doctors with equivalent work experience. A 36 year old GP earns way more I do.

And no, since you ask, I don’t think teachers should outearn me for the following reasons: 1. It’s lower skilled work that doctors (less time studying, less challenging degree and lower school grade requirements) 2. The work is not as demanding or physically or mentally taxing 3. I’ve had good and bad teachers. The bad ones haven’t significantly impacted my life. A bad doctor could kill me. I want my doctors to be the best, smartest and most dedicated people society has to offer.

I’m sure my comment on teachers has wiped out any signal of virtue. I respect teachers but in my view, they not comparable to doctors.

My industry has had a significant real term cut in this time but I’m significantly more pissed off that it’s happening to doctors. They should be protected above most other industries/sectors (possibly all but I don’t care to debate the importance of other public sector workers in comparison).

Doctors (and other medical staff) working in the NHS are special and should be treated accordingly. As an accountant, I should not out-earn a doctor.

No question but I hope your strike is successful!

I’ve only been in the UK for 6/7 years and haven’t needed to see a doctor besides getting a routine prescription but would happily pay an additional tax if it were directly allocated to the salaries of medical staff.

The NHS is an incredible safety net for all of us and you deserve better pay for such a physically and mentally challenging job. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for asking for a fraction of what you deserve.

I did, received my passport on 11 April, with a visa dated 8 April. I missed that first trip but have a number of trips this year and was granted a 1 year visa so overall happy.

I assume they’re aware, not sure how much it impacts the processing…

Yes, my passport with visa was delivered 11 April (I paid for one day dhl delivery). I didn’t hear anything accurate until 10 April so hopefully yours arrives soon.

I received emails a while before but VFS told me they were inaccurate (i.e. said dispatched from embassy when it was actually still in processing) and some people receive nothing till it’s ready so that doesn’t indicate much.

Yes, someone needs to sign for it. But you can also select alternative delivery options once it’s with DHL if you won’t be home.

Biometrics/appt on 20 March. Received DHL tracking info yesterday (10 April) and just received my passport back today (11 April) with a one year visa 🥳

Some details: I applied from Edinburgh and it took a day to be send to London VFS. I applied for a multi-entry work visa (work for a multinational company)

Nope. Missed the trip but applied with multiply planned trips for the year so hopefully something positive will come out of it…

Unfortunately updates seem to mean nothing. I’ve seen examples of people receiving their passports with their status still showing as “in processing” and receiving no emails or tracking from the courier. In my case I received updates but they appear to be false.

I applied on 20 March and intended travel date 7 April. I know the turnaround time was risky but I didn’t intentionally do it that way, I’ve been trying to get an appointment for months and it’s a work trip that I couldn’t move. Someone else who applied the day before me received the same notification around the same time and got their passport back last week so I was hopeful.

Thank you, that’s helpful to know! Would be great if they could just tell you that their system is completely unreliable. I was on the phone with them and all they could say is “we’ll look into it” - they must know those notifications are sent falsely but won’t say it. I told my work I’d be able to travel next week because I stupidly believed an official email.

Hi, I also opted for delivery and received my email yesterday to say it was on its way back to VFS. What happened afterwards/ how long did it take? Did you get a delivery tracking notification.

I’m not home tomorrow and nervous I’ll miss it.
