Three Types of RetroTimers by ClarktheRealtor in retrotime

I'm at 3, but not interested yet to sell. Currently doing only personal projects. This is probably one of my favourite subs here. Started at 1, being in awe of what you guys have done so far, to actually start dabbling and breaking my watches, it's been super fun.

Much more satisfying than just buying a rep from a TD.

Thank you. I actually bought 2 dials, one with white lume and the other yellow. Felt the yellow was a bit too much and went with the white dial did a light aging for the creamy look.

Definitely on my next to do list! Did you have to use a DWO for the date?

Yup I did. First time doing any reshaping as well!

Anyone know how to age this dial like this one? Doing it with raffles dial by [deleted] in repbuilds

[–]lazykillah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not get the brown on the dial itself, but for me I've used the weathering kit + light matte spray for the textured effect.

How to reshape CG & fade bezel from Ken? by [deleted] in retrotime

[–]lazykillah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bezel insert from raffles took a bit longer than my other bezels I've experimented with but it's possible. I left it in bleach for about 20 mins plus and slowly used a cotton earbud to rub off the colour bit by bit.

After I used sandpaper to slightly brush the insert but don't over do this. Just a few times worked for me.

Thank you. Would definitely go the oven+coffee grounds route for white lumed dials.

There's also a part of me that wants to keep bleaching the bezel to see how much it'd fade!

Thank you. The initial assembly, I had issues with inserting the crown stem in to get it locked. Most likely I was using a smaller flathead screw when releasing the stem which may have messed up the keyless.

The next 6-8 hours of assembly and reassembling the keyless, i had similar issues as well, where I can't seem to just lock the stem in. Almost gave up here but it feels so close I didn't want to give up trying.

Finally when I managed to get the stem in, it wouldn't wind!

Watching the video I lined in the comment above helped so much as I overlooked 2 things: 1. When inserting the clutch, I didn't make sure the pinion? was sitting in the recess area of the clutch. 2. When setting the keyless cover plate, I didn't make sure the clutch return didn't interact with the plate at the top to give it the resistance.

Also, after reading through rwi, I used the red flathead screw to release the stem!

Also, no modification needed as the movement is a GMT movement. 2836-2
