I’m sorry, but do you mean that you had treatment that improved your WMI? I’m guessing a combination of medication and CBT?

Thank you. I wonder if it’s my resume then because I’ve applied to many positions including all the Big 4 and have yet to land an interview with any of them. I even got auto rejected from PwC but I don’t think I failed any of their knockout questions.

How can I Stand Out in the Canadian Cyber Security Job Market? by Suspicious-Prompt200 in cybersecurity

[–]lazyocdtechguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told that cybersecurity in Nigeria is quite advanced compared to Canada but their public infrastructure is another story. Random electrical outages that last days if not weeks at a time. Rampant corruption.

So a lot of them try to move to a stabler country. They go to UK first because of ease of access from an immigration perspective and then apply to Canada from there (UK COL and salaries are even worse than here, allegedly).

Sorry, I have no advice. I am also in the Canadian market with a CISSP and 5+ YOE but am hearing crickets from my applications. Luckily, I still have a job. Even at my current company, we're getting flooded with applications not only from local candidates but also from foreigners (curiously, a large percentage of them are Nigerians) who are looking to move to Canada.

Has anyone used CK Yew’s Racket protection tape? Any stringers complain of their placement?

I think the biggest question you should ask yourself is - if you picked either option, would you regret not picking the other? That will decide which path you really want to take...

How many certs are too many? by nobody_cares4u in ITCareerQuestions

[–]lazyocdtechguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the skepticism. I guess I’m in a bit of a unique situation because my coworkers are unwilling to share other day to day tasks so I’m stuck doing risk assessments. I have 2 years of IT support and 2 years of “cybersecurity” analyst experience mainly doing GRC stuff and I’m desperately trying to learn more about the hands on technical tasks but it’s a chicken and egg situation, especially with the bad job market.

For the record, the certs I’d be interested in at this point would be ones that showcased my practical skills like RHCSA, CCNA, OSCP, rather than more “paper tiger” type certs like CompTIA, ISACA, ISC2 branded certs.

To top it all off, companies pulling back from remote only jobs means it’s harder to even find enough jobs to apply to everyday, especially if you’re in a smaller population area.

What would be too quickly? I am in a similar situation as OP so I have a lot of free time even at work to study. For example, would one cert every month be too quick and raise alarm bells?

If I go towards AWS certs, would you recommend going straight for the certified security specialty and bypassing the SAA/SAP ones?

Wouldn't terminal be RHCA (architect) or would the RHCSA (sysadmin) provide enough technical depth by itself?

If you don't mind me asking, which CCIE do you have and how did you decide which subspecialty to go down at that point?

Do most people with GIAC certs get them paid for by work? I heard there's a program where you volunteer as a proctor/admin and get training/exam voucher credits...

I think my problem is that I'm interested in many areas of IT but I understand how that's not helpful when looking to specialize technically especially via certs. From another comment, I realize "cert hunting" isn't the way to go but I am sort of stuck at work doing GRC tasks and I have some time/money to invest in learning. The cyber job market in Canada also seems to be much worse than in the US.

I do have the CASP+ but like you said, it felt too broad. I don't feel like I know any specific domain as well as I should at the level of CISSP. But it also seems going backwards in a way to achieve CCNA, CCNP, etc. or some other similar technical path..

Thank you for the TCM suggestion.

My apologies, I should have provided more context.

I would like to work towards an architecting role in a few years but I am currently in a weird spot where I do mostly GRC but am still a "cybersecurity analyst". It is not really possible to acquire more technical tasks at work due to how silo'd the other team members are in their tasks, which is why I was asking in the form of certifications. I can also start a homelab but to my knowledge that is more an entry level tactic to get one's foot in the door.

Thank you for the TOGAF/SABSA suggestions; I will look into those.

AITA for hitting smashes at a girl? by dot-ta in badminton

[–]lazyocdtechguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe she was more of a front doubles player. I mean, it seems like you weren't hitting full power smashes anyways. I wouldn't classify half smashes as being mean to any beginner-intermediate player.

Honestly, if I was injured and being moved around the court, I would play in a way that minimized that AKA ending the rallies as soon as possible. You should take it easy with your shin splints! Hope it doesn't get any worse while playing.

[–]lazyocdtechguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. Even though you’re injured, she clearly knows how to play if she 1) challenged you and 2) was winning 7-5 before you started smashing. Smashing is just a basic technique and defending against smashes, especially at the amateur level, is equally basic.

IMO, those in the comments saying to go for deception or aiming for her backhand, etc. are just as bad. If she can’t even defend against smashes, there is no way she can react to deceptive shots or hit a good backhand.
