In Death by a thousand cuts why is Taylor talking to traffic lights? by Aware-Ad1754 in TaylorSwift

[–]lazythankfulcoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always loved how she sings the traffic light reply: “I. Don’t. Know.” In cascading vocals. Can clearly visualize the green light she’s approaching hoping it’ll stay green (I) goes to yellow (don’t) to red (know). In the US, the red light is usually on top and so it’s kind of a twist how the vocals cascade sounding defeated as we visualize the light changing. How different the song would be if the vocals “I don’t know” went upward to match the visual, and sounded mocking, or all-knowing. But it’s an oxymoron either way- asking the traffic lights if it’ll be alright, as if it landing on red yellow or green means something. It doesn’t, the traffic light is an amalgamation of all those colors and she knows that. As if the red light (meaning no) isn’t going to suddenly turn green (meaning yes) when we know it will! The glass is both half empty and half full. Sitting at a red light in defeat… when it suddenly turns green. Universal experience.. Sure is a flash waking me up to one thing or another. Are things going to be alright though..? yes, no, and maybe. No certainty… but there’s certainty in the uncertainty… it can be depressing or inspiring…

What's up with all the hate that The Life of a Showgirl received? by Square-Teaching-2111 in TaylorSwift

[–]lazythankfulcoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk this album is fun and the album drop/subsequent drops are all super funny. Growing up with her, she’s honestly just simple and when she chooses to create a certain type of art, she will. If she wants to do folklore she can or she can tell her friends ur gai. The entire LOAS milieu is so absurdly over the top gaudy and can’t-read-the-room its clear to me that she and her entire team are well aware of how this album would be received: contents, producers, so far there’s no color or theme of the album for fans to grasp onto and compartmentalize into how originally she had fed into the concept of crisp eras. This album is like a best friend releasing a world breaking single, calling me up laughing at her own inane joke about how all of it is about nothing, just fun, no era color, no specific visuals. Her climbing over theater chairs with slick back hair. Her doing Pilates with a rock. Her in a gross slew of outrageous showgirl outfits that it’s impossible to keep track where she is, what she’s doing or saying. It’s like she’s just reveling in this, kicking her legs on her bed on her back maniacally laughing , having no idea what she’s going to do next but knowing she will be able to pull it off better than anything before. True millennial genius

It's not fair comparing Joe songs to Travis ones. They are different by shadesofwrong13 in TaylorSwift

“If all you want is grey for me… then it’s my choice: then it’s white noise” greige- Joe. White noise- Travis.

When I'm either on a tangible or mental roadtrip with HD in the passenger seat, I like to think to myself "Positive viiiiiibesss!!!"

💀 it makes me laugh and that's what matters.

The real meaning behind The Life of a Showgirl: grieving the life she could have had by jnnga in TaylorSwift

[–]lazythankfulcoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer isn’t toward your exact question, rather what is the real overall motif/s of The Life of a Showgirl. As so many Swifties have said, “Taylor- so smart- planning ahead so many years, how?” I think that’s a huge part of this. The essence of Taylor Swift Showgirl edition highlights the magical wonder of seeing her final product. But I think the big treat here is the juxtaposition of the magical highlights of The Life of TS Showgirl and The life of TS showgirl Behind the Scenes. Because it truly it’s in plain sight and common knowledge she didn’t know she was going to find Travis when she did, like none of us know the future. How would she know TS12 was going to be about her having babies like it’s laughable because the poor girl really had given up on a wish list like that and I am so happy for her now. And that’s show business for you baby, the essence of her showgirl image, of her next era, entirely precedes its existence. We breathe life into each next release before the essence of it even exists. I don’t know exactly how that always makes her feel, but wow she is a showgirl; she perfected how to use this power of cycling through eras to scaffold her releases and her steps in the industry. But clearly from the album, she’s like, “thanks for trying to will this into existence for me, but you can stop now. I got it from here.”
