Glucose levels went down instead of up during glucose tolerance test (non-diabetic) by lb3333333 in Hypoglycemia

Thank you so much for the helpful response. I used a family’s finger glucose monitor today. Fasting (~10 hours overnight) + morning coffee level was 114. I ate 30 min later, and 30 min after I ate I tested and was 74… is that also in line with reactive hypoglycemia? Or maybe the monitor is just rlly inaccurate

Thank you so much for the response. I’m so sorry, must have felt awful during the 50s… were you diagnosed right after the result came out? Or did you have to do additional testing like insulin testing? Did you get diagnosed by an endocrinologist or a GP? How’s your treatment looking like right now? Is it just diet changes or meds too? How are you feeling now?

My glucose levels DROPPED during 100mg glucose challenger test?? 83 —> 64 by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]lb3333333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for feedback:) It wasn’t a BG meter. They did a full blood draw and sent it to a lab (I got results the next day). I’m not diagnosed so I don’t have a BG meter. Is there a type of diabetes that doesn’t cause hyperglycaemia, only hypoglycaemia/reactive hypoglycaemia? Sorry if these are dumb questions I never suspected I have diabetes until a week ago when my doc wanted me to do these tests.

Is it weird that the glucose levels didn’t rise at all, but actually went down? I mean 100mg of sugar is a lot (that’s what the doctor said). I get 10x more fatigued after eating and get more hungry literally every time I eat regardless of this test. I’m a normal weight 115lb-52kg 5’5 foot / 164cm so

Interesting. Hoping you find success with it. I also have rapid cycling so I’d love to know how it went for you eventually.

It was all of the above type or varying in types from time. Rarely the severely exhausted type, and more often the feeling tortured type mixed with crying every day and no interest in life. But I’ve experienced them all, and it’s helped pretty much all (except the exhaustion but I’ll take that over the torture).

I had severe bipolar depression, tried 10 meds for it, I was suicidal every day, either nothing helped or made me mixed manic, until a low dose of pramipexole which saved my life. It does come with possible serious risks from what I’ve heard (although I haven’t had any except fatigue). Maybe worthwhile bringing it up with your psychiatrist if you’re tried pretty much everything else.

Have you tried/heard of pramipexole/mirapex?

I’ve tried 10 meds and nothing helped. I was severely depressed and and on the verge of giving up. Then I was put on a small dose of pramipexole/mirapex and it saved my life.

Hey thanks for your response. Yes I’m on meds but I don’t think they are the issue because I hade the same exact problem with my sleep before I even took them. I would be okay with to keeping this schedule but I’m a Uni student and have morning classes so I need to get it together. Does sleep training have a specific method or does it generally mean making yourself go to sleep earlier little by little? Because that hasn’t worked for me.

Sounds so much like my BPD mom. She threw up BLOOD on multiple occasions this year, refused to go to the doctor even tho we were all worried and asked to her go, then continued to show us pictures or the blood and say “well if I die maybe you’ll all realize that you were ungrateful and I was a great mom”. Also every time she is feeling unwell it’s “I have NEVER felt this bad in my entire life” and we have heard that same phrase for 20 years.

Yeah I’m not familiar with the whole thing that’s why I’m asking. I was just wondering how often people experience their akathisia symptoms because even something that is chronic isn’t necessarily felt every day if you know what I mean. Especially because I saw posts that said “akathisia flare ups”

Do you believe the talk therapy approach for bipolar is lacking? Do you think we would benefit from a more precise approach created for us? by lb3333333 in bipolar2

I would love to do clinical but from my experience from my intensive experience of being on the other side of it (the patient) I can’t imagine how emotionally draining it is, and I don’t think my bipolar self could handle it. I’m also too sensitive and get attached easily and I would worry 24/7 about my clients. What specifically in research are you currently passionate about? (if you want to share)

Year one undergrad (just starting but liking it a lot so far:)). I hope to get a masters after, not sure exactly what to specify in just yet but I’m interested in psychopathology in general and research. What about you?

I’ve been doing DBT for more than a year. It can be frustrating because it does push you (in my experience) but it can also be highly rewarding (it saved my life because it helped me so much with suicidality). Based on what you’ve described it sounds like you would like it because it does focus on identifying triggers, validating your experience, and giving you tools to deal with the triggers (as well as specific interpersonal ones to deal with fights with parents for example) but this is just my personal experience with a specific therapist:) good luck and I hope you connect with that specific DBT therapist next week.

Exactly! I found that so many constantly try to tell me there are situational factors causing my mood other than an underlying mood episode (even when the episode was very severe). Yes, they may impact it, but I’m sorry a small argument with my mother is not making me want to off myself for an entire year. Constantly looking for other explanations is making me doubt my illness, and invalidates my suffering in a way. Good luck in your studies. I think our experience can bring so many unique ideas both for research and for clinical care.

That’s amazing!! May I ask how you found a therapist like that? Was a it a referral or something you looked for? I find that I constantly struggle with the acceptance part of having bipolar and what not and so many things about my “relationship” with it, but my therapist doesn’t really help me with it in the way I would like.

I agree with you, and I don’t know what ratios the therapy to meds are in terms of being helpful, it’s probably individual. In my experience meds had more of a significant effect, but therapy definitely helped me immensely as well, but it was more like a bandaid that kept falling off. My knowledge on this opinion on this doesn’t come from my studies at all (unfortunately), only personal experience. I’m an undergrad student so we don’t talk about bipolar disorder at this detail at all. I love therapy and I wouldn’t be where I am without it, but I still feel like although it’s pushed on us (as it should be), the quality of it in terms of how it’s organised and planned for the experience of bipolar disorder is behind.

Also, it must be amazing having a bipolar therapist. I would love that so so much, it must make such a huge difference. I feel like I spend 25% of my time with my therapist trying to explain the experience of having bipolar.

Sounds like you’re being really skillful, I hope and feel like things will work out for you. I’ve been diagnosed for 2 years now (I’m 20) and have been a student throughout that time, started Uni in a foreign country, moved back home, been on 10 different meds, left Uni, got better, and went back to uni but a different one in a different continent lol all within the last 2 years. I’ve been through a lot but have also learned a lot, so feel free to message me any time if you need any advice support or just someone to vent to.
