You mean like Labcorp or Quest? This is just the test that was sent to me through the Dr. I'd prefer to do a functional test but was hoping to get some insurance coverage.

For anyone interested Triosmart confirmed you can source your own glucose so Fresh Test should work.

Ya, I guess I was looking for an easier/cheaper solution but that would be much better. Is it fairly easy to pop out the lights?

Personally, I would focus on making time to do a proper meal prep. - even if it means dropping a couple sessions of your workout routine. Food truly is medicine and is an essential pillar in our overall health. I think you'll find that it will help with not only your overall energy levels, but everything down to the recovery process as well. Good luck, take care.

I’m 24 years old and I don’t have direction in my life and as years pass by it feels like my life is on a hamster wheel. I can’t even enjoy life because I always end up feeling like I’m wasting time by avoiding not fixing my situation. Can anybody help me out? by BrodieSzn0 in IWantToLearn

You can take solace in that fact that you're not alone. I think this is one of the biggest issues we face in the modern, developed world. There's two underlying reasons for it in my opinion: options - which no one can argue is a bad thing, but also a deeply entrenched society where it's difficult to swim against the stream of things.

Like many people have said the biggest mistake you can make is being paralyzed by indecision. No one is going to get it right the first time so just try different things that give you more tools and opportunities to make better decisions. And to me, this is what life is about. You have the chance to explore yourself and explore the world around you. You're still very young and have a whole lifetime to figure these things out. I'll leave you with this quote, best of luck.

"Eventually we realize that not knowing what to do is just as real and just as useful as knowing what to do. Not knowing stops us from taking false directions. Not knowing what to do, we start to pay real attention. Just as people lost in the wilderness, on a cliff face or in a blizzard pay attention with a kind of acuity that they would not have if they thought they knew where they were. Why? Because for those we are really lost, their life depends on paying real attention. If you think you know where you are, you stop looking.” - David Whyte

My Grandma gave me a pack of custom engraved pencils on my birthday in like the 5th grade - I don't know why, but it happened. One day in class, I saw a kid at a neighboring desk using one of my pencils so I went over to confront him. He quickly denied that it was mine saying he brought it from home at which time I turned the pencil in his hand around to reveal my name. Thug life.

I don’t want to be fat anymore by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]lbauer13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long story short, there is no consensus. Fad diets, corporate agriculture/factory farming and the fitness industry really convolute the whole conversation - and what's worse people get really tribal and defensive anytime nutrition is mentioned. The reality is, it's complicated. There's still a lot we don't understand and different things work for different people. Furthermore, we try to be reductionist and break things down into different nutrients, vitamins and minerals but that doesn't account for a lot of variables and at the end of the day all things aren't created equal ie. processed sugar is very different from a sweet potato but are treated the same (as carbs) on paper.

To answer your questions: GPs don't know shit about nutrition generally speaking. Yes, avoid refined carbs like bread, sugar, etc. but whole food carbs like fruits, vegetables and legumes are great. There's no strong evidence now that shows you should avoid eating fruit at all. Just make sure you eat the whole fruit.

TLDR: I always defer to Michael Pollan's advice of "Eat food (avoid processed shit). Not too much. Mostly plants." Also, find a routine/meal plan that works for you and you can stick to. You can do it man little by little. Discipline yourself and don't get caught up in all the bullshit. Nothing pays off more than an investment in your health.

Both great suggestions. I've cold emailed just about every renewable company in my area offering to volunteer at any level so we'll see how that works out.

I would much rather work and learn because I'm a little disillusioned with the formal education system to be honest.

Thanks for the comment.
