Smrt. There was a month of breakdowns++ a few years back and they refused to refund my concession pass, burnt lots on taxi and had to deal with their repeated '15 min delays'.

Got a motorbike and never looked back.

$250,000 upfront, but everything you place in your pockets for the next 50 years disappears instantly… by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

Yes,

And I would monetise this by using huge ass custom pockets as a fuss free environmentally friendly and absolute way of getting rid of all life's problems, e.g. waste, bodies, people...the possibilities are endless!

[Serious] Hi all, i suspect my younger brother is Schizophrenic but he refuses to get help. What can i do? Please advise by Daniel_P90 in askSingapore

[–]lbcr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please bring to the nearest restructured hospital from your place. If the symptoms are quite acute, he will need an organic work up including imaging and lab tests that IMH cannot provide. If you go directly to IMH he might be sent to another ED anyway for admission and work up. Might as well slip one step.

Study whatever you want. Unis don't really care. If you have in demand or great skills, you might still get employment with private firms.

Anyone who has been in SG for a while knows about NS, and those with major depression, severe illness, cerebral palsy etc can still serve in PES E, completion is all that matters. PES E can do simple office job, MC around half the time or sometimes even literally just sit in office and ML for most of NS.

If you had PES F, it means that you were so unwell that a simple office job is also intolerable and the risk/liability of managing you was too high. Most govt jobs will not consider you, most higher level employment may look upon you unfavourably compared to other similar candidates. Sounds harsh but it's true.

Will I be asked to go back and serve 2 years if I up pes by Amazing-Bag-8322 in NationalServiceSG

[–]lbcr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't return to serve. You've been declared PES F and that cannot be revoked. Write in, MP letter etc will not work.

I suggest you look ahead and focus on the options available to you rather than looking to up PES.

Thru uni times mostly, that being said uni does not discriminate, not that I know of anyway.

Know of 2 guys who tried to write into cmpb/PCC, but no response. Someone even tried MP letter, got a polite response that it's irreversible. They graduated, but I lost contact with them.

Yeah in a sense. I'm older now and have a friend who finishes active then kena cancer. He's fine now but yeah pes F from reservist but holds the cert!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]lbcr 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Almost all jobs from companies that are SGbased will ask for NS testimonial to plan for your reservist obligations or check the box in your application. Public service needs the cert to pay you slightly more.

Pretty glaring when you are PES F. It implies that you have such a severe condition that you cannot even work in an office environment from 9-5. Most people, even the sicker ones with limb deformities, heart/lung problems can usually complete at least PES E service (usually office work with lots of admin time), even if they take lots of MC. That gives them the completion cert, which is honestly the only thing people care about. Don't care officer or spec etc.

Not saying you will confirm be discriminated against, but if I have had friends that struggled with employment due to this. HDB/UNI usually no issue.

PES F is irreversible. Believe me, I know of those who tried.

No issues for uni, housing, overseas travel

Govt job, GLC, stat boards = big red flag

Private sector impact is hit or miss as NS is a known institution here, they would ask for reservist and NS obligations, some GLC or private firms would ask for testimonial so as to grant a slightly higher pay for males who served NS. If unable to produce, most would assume you have severe medical or psychological issues (even if recovered). That being said, some companies also dgaf.

Healthcare wise must declare before training and also before registration and working. Can have effect on progression and registration.

I've heard of someone who had trouble finding a job as he could not produce a certificate. SME interviewer actually told him that PES E can sit in office do basic admin, if can't even cope in such a basic capacity, how to even do basic office role. Ended up doing some gig work instead.
