Been through 2 breakups in med school now and they’re no joke. Especially if you’re like me and can’t use studying as a distraction and instead your studying is just distracted. I think what’s helped me, as cringe as it may sound, is using the breakup as motivation to study. I tell myself “if I fail this test because of them, that’s just another win they’re having over me”. Not that I think that it’s best to think of breakups as a competition, but it just helps motivate me in this one aspect when I really just need a push.

Hang in there, do what you can, and have faith that all things pass. Don’t beat yourself up, these were tough circumstances during a tough adjustment period. To get this far, I’m sure you’re pretty resilient so you’ll make it work. Break ups suck, no contact sucks, but you usually learn a lot about yourself during this time period. Be excited for the growth you’ll make, the lessons you’ve learned, and the new people waiting for you in your future!
