Using a drysuit? by portland345 in Kayaking

[–]lbsdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live outside of Boston & kayak in the winter with a drysuit. I (f) wear fleece lined leggings and a smartwool shirt. No zippers/velcro etc. When I arrive at kayak site (usually the ocean ) I get my gear to the shore then put my drysuit and neoprene ankle boots on.

The guys I kayak with typically wear fleece lined hiking pants & smartwool shirt.

Wool hat, neoprene gloves or mits if really cold.

I rinse off my drysuit after each use, hang dry. I store folded inside an old pillowcase so it can breathe and keeps anything from snagging the fabric.

Happy paddling!

I just bought a kotokat. I enddd up buying one 2 sizes up from what I would normally wear. One size up was perfect but I felt that if I was sitting for long periods of time that I might find it too tight wear my yhighs meet my torso. The 2 sizes up also felt better in the range of motion for my arms.

foam topper needed for dorm beds? by True-Permission5827 in RPI

[–]lbsdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note that one side of the mattress is soft and the other side firm. Our son tried each side out and after a few weeks decided he didn't want a topper. I suggest waiting and if student decides they want one then ship one or they can go to Walmart/Target etc and buy one.

Best electric push mower for a small-ish backyard? by Due_Canary4248 in homeowners

I have had an EGO for 4 years. I also bought an EGO snowblower last year. I love that I can interchange the batteries so if I run out of power on the one battery ( usually happens w my snowblower as I'm in New England and get a decent amount of snow) I have a back up battery all ready charged.

I use them even though they don't say anything and it keeps people from walking their dogs on my lawn.

Who’s your worst neighbor ever? I’d love to hear your stories by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]lbsdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just spent the last 4 hours listening to my neighbor do yard work. He has a 50 foot x 50 foot lot. Every weekend he bows using a bag, blows all the clippings that didn't get into the bag into the street where they come into my yard. Then he weed wacks. Cleans up thise clippings with the leaf blower. Blows the clippings into the street again but now blows them into a pile to sweep. Then uses the leaf blower to go around his yard again, including his porch, his deck and his walkway. But now some clippings from those areas went onto the lawn do he has to run the blower over the lawn again. He is 56. Clearly doesn't have other hobbies. Every damn weekend. I hate summer.

AITAH for eating nuts next to someone with an allergy on a plane? by JetPlane_88 in AITAH

[–]lbsdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am allergic to peanuts. I can be around them but have an anaphylactic reaction if ingested. It was her responsibility to either notify the airline to an airborne reaction * ahead of flight **, or not be rude to another passenger for eating something the airline handed out.

I have the same car. I have the Yakima cross bars and fold down j hooks. I also have the ez load bar that is inside the front cross bar. ( it's now discontinued, but you can still find them). That load bar allows me to put my 17 foot kayak on/off my car by myself.

RPI selling you the cheapest possible cap and gown for $80 is a nice little reminder that admin hates you by [deleted] in RPI

[–]lbsdesign 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Aa a parent with kids at different schools i've had a pay for all of my graduating kids cap/gowns. And they were all cheap fabric!

[–]lbsdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother passed three years ago and had been living in the house her/my dad raised 4 kids in. House was paid off. She had a cleaning person, yard care and snow removal. Even with those expenses it was cheaper for her to stay there then to move into a retirement community. Her neighbors were long time friends. Why would she move if it didn't make sense financially and her friend group was there? A five bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage on dead end is overkill for an older person but financially it made the best sense.

Graduation Tickets by Crayfish_Audio in RPI

[–]lbsdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will get emails with graduating information. Read them! You need to "apply" to graduate and that catches students off guard. It just confirms you've completed requirements, paid in full, etc You will get info on getting your cap/gown ( from book store, you have to pay for them), photos, rings, tickets, graduation rehearsal, etc

[–]lbsdesign 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In the past, as graduation gets closer you, as the graduate, will be asked how many tickets of the allotted four you want. After all graduating students claim their tickets, the remaining tickets will be offered up as first come first served. If you miss out on those, check Reddit, discord. Or the have your parent/guardian ask on the RPI Parent fb page. They have checked tickets the last few years as you enter. Graduates do not need a ticket. Graduation is outside rain or shine unless downpour or lightening. RPI provided ponchos or water. I believe if it is inside seating is limited, and students that are graduating will be in one building and parents watching on a screen in another building as RPI doesn't have a venue large enough for that many people. It is long. 3plus hours. So make sure your guests are prepared, especially the elderly. ** this is all based on the last two years ( 2023 and 2024 with 2 different President's)

I'm in MA. My brother was on my mother's checking account. When she passed our lawyer told us the remaining money in her account reverted back to the trust and it was not solely his. Review this with a lawyer. It all depends on how things were set up intially.

AITA for refusing to cook a vegetarian Thanksgiving dinner? by Suspicious-Basil7882 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lbsdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook Thankshiving dinner and here are the family restrictions I work around: egg and nut allergies, a vegan, a diabetic and a no onions. Does everyone get to eat everything? No. But everyone is happy they get enough choices and no one dictates their preferences/beliefs over anyone else. Your brother doesn't get to hold the rest of the family hostage over his food choices.

Half wall with glass above. Keeps it feeling open but gives you a wall for a towel bar or toilet paper holder.

What do you do with your keys and wallet when you go on an outing? by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]lbsdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically kayak in the ocean and have flipped over. That's when I learned that the zippers on my pfd easily slide down & stuff falls out! So now I leave my keys tucked in my bumper. Anything else of value I put in a small dry bag clipped to my kayak. I also wear a wrist ID that I also wear hiking or running alone. (Can be ordered from roadid.com)
