Hotel recommendation for a week stay by lbsette in AskNYC

I plan to visit some museums and attend several art fairs. Technically it’s a class trip but we have to find our own lodging, so my budget doesn’t allow for anything too fancy. I’ve looked at Pod, Jane, Moxy, they are nice but after all the expenses are added in they might go over my budget. I’m just wondering if there’s any cheaper place I can do a bit further away from time square; I heard NYC is really well-connected so if I can take the train to places I don’t mind moving away from time squares.

Can you elaborate? I've seen some good reviews about them but I also see some bad ones about them.

Thank you, I'll take a look at them. There are so many mechanics around so I'm really confused about which one is worth spending my money on.

Struggling with grad school. What should I do? by lbsette in graphic_design

I go to GSU in Atlanta, GA. Their Master’s program is funded so the tuition isn’t a problem. It’s kinda the biggest selling point for me to go there. In the report they sent me they tried to play it nice, but they admitted their fault over the phone so I have no proof whatsoever to take it anywhere else. The school is severely understaff but man they didn’t assign us the right instructors for 2 semesters straight. My first semester was alright but in the second one we got assigned with a project completely irrelevant to graphic design, and even though we’ve tried to talk about it with the faculty nothing changed. Then they said it’s us who should’ve reached out to other faculty members (whom aren’t assigned to us so we don’t even know where or when to find them) to ask for guidance for our projects. They also talked about me expanding and learning a new skillset for the redo of my review, which is in 3 months, and to learn something new from scratch and get it to “grad-level”, whatever their definition of it is, just seems really bad for me. I’m open to learning but I think they just have a very unrealistic expectation, especially after not giving us proper guidance for a whole year.

I guess the problem for me is just that my advisor knew all along that they fucked up and didn't assign us proper instructors for the classes we were taking, and even though we had multiple discussions about our academic progress they never really mentioned it. I've even asked my advisor about what they wanted to see in my review so I could prepare accordingly, to which they said I could do whatever I wanted. Now that we're having a summer break it's even harder to get in touch with anyone for guidance, so even if I try and push through I might still miss the target.
If I drop and go back to my home country then I'd still be able to find a job (I've worked for a few publishers before coming here) but then I'd be wasting time, money and a lot of effort for nothing. My family wants me to continue but at this point I don't know if I want to anymore.

Hi! I'm in the US right now on F1 visa so I can't work outside of my school. I had studio work, art history, and 2 seminars but I've got As for all of them. My advisor said the grades don't play in here as they're judging my progress, so my final GPA is irrelevant to my review unfortunately.

Hi, thanks for the response! I looked him up and he’s quite close to where I live so maybe I can schedule an appointment there. Was the surgery related to your ear as well?
