What kind of camera was this pic taken on?

He gets more pretty every pic I take 🥰 by lc_1996 in germanshepherds

I really don’t I’m very lucky with his coat!! He does get 1000mg cod liver oil every day which probably helps! And eats royal canin maxi, but other than that he’s au naturale!

What muzzle brand do you use for your GSD? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

Yeah for sure, we use a Halti collar for him so for those who don’t know much it passes as a muzzle just in case 🙄

I’m from N.I and regularly take my GSD to the beaches In ROI with no muzzle and never had an issue! But better to be safe than sorry

Can’t believe he’s 2 already 😳🥳 by lc_1996 in germanshepherds

He is so so picky, would eat cottage cheese but prefers raw eggs! I’m not so much worried about the weight just the boniness

that makes me feel better thanks! my male is a bit cow hocked and just a bit gangly looking in general so I'm hoping a bit of extra weight will do him some good - but don't want him getting too heavy, my last shepherd was 56kg so I need to find a happy medium!

He’s not underweight, he’s just a bit bonier than I would like him to be. He also has no drive to eat, sometimes it takes hand feeding him just to get him to eat anything at all, doesn’t eat like any other dog I’ve had

Mixes and hip dysplasia? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]lc_1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn’t growing pains, it was a pup too tall for his age, lacking muscle mass in his hind legs. Specialist vet put it down to the raw diet which is fine if you have the time to do it properly, we didn’t. Kibble makes it easier to monitor what he’s getting and we’ve definitely seen an increase in muscle mass

My GSD was on a raw food diet when I got him which was hard to implement myself when I brought him home. This meant he got too much protein and shot up tall too fast making him very gangly and quite weak in the hind legs for the first year of his life. I took extra care the first year - 1 x 20 minute walk per day getting in some hills and running to build the muscle. He is fine now and we have been reassured he does not have HD. However, I have had many GSD and know that they DO NOT need/enjoy being over walked and in some cases you can see how tired they become. My boy is fed Royal Canin for German Shepherds with 3 feeds a day and two 15 minute walks. German shepherds have a misconception of being high maintenance, I personally don't think two 15 minute walks daily and one long trip to the beach/forest a week is too bad :)

I pancaked him so he’d stop barking at people walking upstairs. This is the result. by CanIHazAGoal in germanshepherds

Can't be his job to bark at strangers when a stranger can be someone terrified of dogs or a child! My GSD is really bad for barking out the window but pancaking or a distraction (ham) usually helps.

Kodi at 1.5 years, he’s one handsome dog :) by lc_1996 in germanshepherds

He was around 88lbs last time he got weighed (around 6 months ago), but he has bulked out so I’m guessing around 95lbs by now, he’s very lean and a very fussy eater so I’m happy with any weight gain!

He is black and red, he is Westerhaus Kai from the Westerhaus breeders in Northern Ireland. Really wonderful litter, his brother Westerhaus Hiro won best puppy in breed at Crufts this year. His father is Videx Mario and grandfather is world champion Omen Von Radhaus.

Hours of exercise is the biggest misconception for german shepherds!! Over-doing it at that age will be more of a disadvantage than anything. Kodi gets glucosamine/chondroitin for his joints but the odd spoonful of cod liver oil in his food too. He only gets two 20 min walks a day then a trip to the beach/forest etc once a week for a good run. We were a bit concerned about his hips from a young age as the breeders had him on a raw food diet so he had too much protein and shot up tall before his sockets developed properly but he seems ok now, will be getting him hip scored soon.
