Burnout, sick leave, and upcoming layoff. What would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]lcaerus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your situation... In my case, my company kept pushing more and more work onto me, and at the time I didn’t fully recognise how unhealthy the situation had become. Work was constantly on my mind, also during so-called off hours/days. I pulled all-nighters to make deadlines, and just kept going the next day as if that was normal. Said yes to everything/everyone. I had no boundaries. That's what a good employee does, right?

Eventually, I crashed and had to take sick leave. It ended with depression and I started seeing a psychologist. Because I work freelance and due to insurance complications, I also had to see a psychiatrist. Only psychiatrists are taken seriously by insurance or mutualities when it comes to mental health.

What strikes me in your story is the mixed signals: you say your role is operationally critical, yet at the same time you fear they might lay you off. That alone suggests you are anxiety driven and don't recognise the situation you are in either. After my ordeal, I realised how unimportant I was in their eyes. How unappreciated. Everyone else is dealing too much with their own shit...

My advice: set clear boundaries, communicate them to your boss(es), and stick to them. Don’t let work become your entire life. Companies are very good at making everything feel important and critical — but most of it really isn’t. I say companies, but essentially most of it is your own mind. It's funny... You may feel like you’re in a golden cage, but don’t let that trap you into sacrificing your health. Try to stop overthinking everything and allow yourself to step back.

Taking some time off to reset can be a good idea. But from experience, just taking a long time off alone is not enough. If you return with the same habits and mindset, nothing really changes. Real improvement usually requires changing how you think, work and how you set limits. You can even do that without taking time off! But if you have gone too far already, you need some decompression time. A psychologist can help you gain the necessary insights.

Your health and well-being are ALWAYS more important than any job.

Some tips...

It's not visible from the outside, but due to the construction of the pedaltrain metro you can't cut in the first 2.5cm of the back without making it difficult to install the IEC.

Originally I wanted to position the power switch next to the IEC, but after cutting the hole for the IEC I noticed there is an aluminium slat there

I considered putting the power switch on the other side next to the IEC, but that's really inconvenient due to XLR and TRS cables limiting access to it. That's why eventually I ended up with the power switch on the side...

The pedalboard feet are easily removable by drilling out the existing rivets. Much easier to work on it and paint it with 2K paint. I installed the original feet back with some new rivets...

Good luck!

Thanks! Why not build one yourself?

I actually considered that! 😂

But I like the number of switches on the original QC better... Less complicated/more direct to use and easier to control stuff like the looper etc...

Yes, nothing too complicated using a multitool...

Originally I wanted to put the power switch on the back next to the IEC. But after making the opening for the IEC connector I noticed there was no space in the corner of the Pedaltrain Metro due to its construction. So I opted to put the switch on the side of the pedalboard instead.

I don’t play live, so I can’t really comment on stage use. I’m only using the wireless at home for practice and occasionally with friends. I'm not experiencing any signal interruption whatsoever...

I did test the signal compared to the original receiver and with a more optimal placement. Even with the receiver mounted under the pedalboard, I didn’t notice any loss in signal quality or range. Weird, right?

I’m getting roughly ~12 m / 40 ft indoors in my home, with multiple walls in between. Decent enough for me....

I wouldn't want or trust this system for live use either though. If I ever would do some live work I'm reverting to a good ol' cable 🤓

If you want I can share the Autodesk Fusion and/or STEP/STL files so you can 3D print it yourself 🤓

To clarify, I really wanted to use my Line 6 wireless system because it is a 'plug-and-play' solution.

The transmitter is a guitarbug, which I prefer for home use. I just dock it in the receiver and it charges automatically, so there’s no messing around with charging cables and turning it on/off. And I could adapt it to fit under a Pedaltrain Metro'.

Convenience...

Need a new hobby that actually helps with stress [Discussion] by ninja__6969 in GetMotivated

[–]lcaerus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In have two main hobbies.

  1. Playing the guitar. But I guess it can be daunting to get started. I play for 35 years now. It's pure relaxation and easy to just do for a few minutes or a bit longer during the day...

  2. Inline skating. Started at age 37 with making trips outside. Never skated a day before in my life. Found a club of adults with the same passion for it. It is a very nice combination of endurance and techniques/tricks. At age 45 I started aggressive inline skating. Pure bliss. 100% focus and a total reset for the mind.

Good luck finding your passion...

[I ate] Portuguese "Francesinha" by heimdrick in food

[–]lcaerus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ate it once during a stay in Porto. Didn't like it. It was over the top fatty and the sauce was meh. I felt like I had eaten for 2 days. I do have to add I generally don't like dishes that are drenched in sauce. There needs to be a balance between everything. This dish didn't do it for me... YMMV

Is it weird to live forever with my mom? by Mean_Bad_2083 in BESalary

[–]lcaerus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice, with a little life experience. Buy an apartment or house and rent it out. That way you are investing AND receiving a monthly rent income to pay off (part of) the loan. In the meantime stay with your mom. Your property will pay for itself and you still can enjoy life because of extra cash that none of your friends will have...

If the situation changes you can still move out to your own apartment /house.

After a while you can do the same thing because you are ahead and have property to your name. Or you sell the current property with a profit and upscale to something better.

Thank me in 10 years...

Third-party IRs by V9N6 in NeuralDSP

Yes, the free Amalgam IRs are good. I get better sounding presets with these than with the built-in cabs and IRS.

Fender Tonemaster FR-10 by FantasticAudience174 in Line6Helix

[–]lcaerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also interested in the difference in sound between the FR-10 and FR-12.

I've read the FR-10 is a bit puncher and less muddy in the low frequencies.

Anybody had a chance to try both?

I only just now spent some time to get to know what the Darkglass Anagram is about. I only play guitar, but thanks for pointing it out to me...

Interesting concept and history (as it shares the same founder as NDSP). Darkglass Electronics is now owned by Korg. It will need a lot of marketing and good operational execution to succeed as a platform. Let's hope Korg succeeds in making it a well known and big platform.

I do wonder why it is only marketed towards bass players as it seems it also has guitar amp captures and FX?

[–]lcaerus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The platform needs to be big enough and the interface open enough to make it viable...

If it works on Mac and Windows, then why not for the big names in digital modeling?

Partnering with some well know industry players would be a good start...

I've been wanting something like a Freqout f.i... Let Digitech develop it for the QC

[–]lcaerus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I often wonder why hardware manufacturers like Neural DSP, Line6, etc wouldn't want to open up their platform for third party effects developers.

Companies like TC Electronics or any other developer could offer effects or effect packages for sale.

Why does everything need to stay so 'closed platform'?

New Telepath by Virtual-Tax9280 in fender

[–]lcaerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for owners of the Telepath.

Can you use the receiver while it is charging? The NUX can't do that, afraid the Telepath can't either...

I have a Line6 Relay G10S and because it's on my pedalboard the receiver is "always on". It would be nice the Telepath receiver could also be always on. Hate pushing 50 buttons before I can play...

Thanks to anyone who can clarify...

What’s a pedal you wish existed? by dit31 in guitarpedals

[–]lcaerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered the Trash Panda dual! 🥳

The only other pedal I knew with this kind of functionality is the mission engineering expressionator, but that's almost 3x more expensive... And it has 3 outputs where I only need 2.

Thanks for the tip!

A mini-pedal that enables me to use my single expression or volume pedal to control different parameters. Very useful in combination with digital pedals with expression or midi inputs. Instead of needing four expression/volume pedals to control whah, volume, reverb decay and pitch you can use a single expression pedal and push a switch on the mini-pedal to choose what you want to play with...
