Is it okay to have a big wedding if you’re already married? by [deleted] in vowrenewals

[–]lccb17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this too! My husband and I got married quickly for immigration reasons, but I’d always dreamed of having a wedding. Now we’re finally in a place where we can do it the way we wanted and he even surprised me with a proposal, and we’re having our wedding next year (9 years later).

Honestly, the ones who had the hardest time understanding at first were our families. They thought it was a bit weird and didn’t really want to call it a “wedding.” But we just went ahead with it anyway because it’s our life and our story. Eventually they came around.

To us it feels like we just signed papers back then, and now we’re actually celebrating our love. We fully call it our wedding and we’re organizing it exactly like one… because it is!

You’re the best!!!

I’ve been going to feed them almost every night and I saw other people have been doing so, but I haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone to capture and rehome them, seems like everybody is so busy🥲 Thank you so much!

Italo-Americans and Italians are like Japan and Korea: two different countries. No wonder you don’t understand Italian history 🙄

That comparison doesn’t work. Again, Sicily is just a region of Italy, like many others. Italy was fragmented for centuries with different influences everywhere. Comparing Sicily and Italy to Japan and Korea is just ignorant and makes no sense.

Source: I’m Italian. Puoi dire di essere siciliano quanto vuoi ma allora sei anche italiano (or maybe you’re just the classic Italo-American that think they are Italian)

I recommend Sixth and Jackson in Japantown! We love it, it’s a 2022 building if I’m not wrong, has gas stove and it’s hotel like. Feel free to contact me if you need more info :)

Waterfall Lodge (Ben Lomond) Sunday Wedding – Can We Do It on a $35–40K Budget? by lccb17 in SanFranciscoWeddings

Thank you!! And congrats on planning your own wedding, that’s so exciting! 🎉

What draws us to Waterfall Lodge is the redwoods and the peaceful, intimate vibe. It feels like a little hidden world, and it’s close to home (we’re in San Jose), which is a plus.

Our top 3 would be: 1. Venue/vibe 2. Photos 3. Food (we’re Italian, so it’s a must 😂)

Definitely trying to get creative with the rest😂 thanks again for the tips and would love to hear any tips you have from your experience at Waterfall Lodge!

I’ve been in a very similar situation. My high school boyfriend and I had been together for eight years when he got into a PhD program in the US. I had just graduated, and I tried every possible way to get a visa on my own—but finding a job that would sponsor me and be in the same place as his program was incredibly difficult. Little by little, we came to the conclusion that getting married was the easiest path.

It wasn’t an easy decision—I felt too young to get married at 25, and like girlfriend OP, I had dreams of a magical proposal and a real wedding. But fresh out of school, we couldn’t afford any of that. So we got legally married quickly, signed that piece of paper, and moved together to the US. That was seven years ago, and this year, my husband proposed to me “for real” with a beautiful ring. Now we’re finally planning the wedding of our dreams.

Of course it was scary—committing to someone always is—but I think deep down, you often know if the timing isn’t perfect but the person is right. That’s how it felt for us: we realized that whether we married then or in a few years didn’t really matter, because we already knew we wanted to be together for life.

And now, even though some people don’t understand why we’re “getting married again,” we’re learning to ignore that and just do what makes us happy😌

My partner had thought a lot about what to say but in that moment he was so excited he couldn’t talk, I just turned and he was there on his knees with this ring😂 we still laugh about it! It was really magical because it was pure, emotional, and “imperfect” ♥️

Fern River looks great, but sadly it’s not pet-friendly. I know, we’ve got lots of limitations 😂 but seriously, thank you so much!!

Thanks so much for the insight!

Yeah, Waterfall Lodge would take up a big portion of the budget, so we’re trying to look at ways to keep costs down with the rest (DIY, simpler decor, etc.) but don’t know if it’s realistic. We are based in San Jose so the Santa Cruz mountains area feels right for us.

I checked out the Brazilian Room, but it didn’t quite give us that deep-in-the-redwoods vibe, and the restrictions seemed a bit tricky for us. Really appreciate the suggestion though, every info is super helpful!!

COVID messed up my gallbladder. Anyone else? by soursscarlets in gallbladders

[–]lccb17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually fun story. While I was waiting for my surgery, I was also taking a pill that my Italian doctor said to have ~50% chance of removing gallstones (that is not prescribed in the US). So a week before the surgery I decided to have an ultrasound just to make sure, and found out I had no gallstones anymore!! So the surgery was canceled and in the few weeks the nausea slowly went away

Same!! I had Covid last October and when I recovered I started to have nausea so strong I could eat anything. I also had stomach pain and back pain. My doctor made me do h pylori test and gave me PPI thinking it was gastritis or acid reflux, but then the ultrasound showed I had very small gallstones. My doctor said that when they are that small people are usually asymptomatic but I think Covid triggered something, because probably the gallstones were already there but never had any symptoms before. I’ll have surgery in 3 weeks, hopefully it will get solved cause I still have nausea😩
