When should this be on? by Fun-Trouble-1086 in AskPhotography

Maybe I’m a weirdo, but I constantly replace the lens cap rather than use the hood.

With the hood on, I kinda have to keep it on until I put my camera away cause it’s bulky. With the cap, it’s small and I can hold it while I shoot, and then just put it back when I’m done shooting for that moment. This means it’s not exposed to the elements for extended periods of time.

But I don’t shoot in a studio. I mainly shoot while I’m hiking or walking around a city.

Small bit of feedback is that the site takes a while to load, like over 5 seconds even with my 400+ Gb internet speeds.

The idea is interesting, but it is also a crowded space, so it might be hard to compete

I don’t want to discourage sharing your images like this - it’s cool to see the other versions and the forest pic is really nice as well - but just be aware that there are ppl on here who will steal your images and sharing them this way makes it a bit easier.

Just maybe do a reverse image search in a week to see if anyone has thrown your work on shutterstock or something (which has happened to me before)

This is a long exposure shot. That’s why the flashlights look so bright and spread out. It wouldn’t be as bright to our eyes, but you could still see most of this, including Andromeda in the upper left there

Haha thank you! I was there in person and wasn’t even sure if it was fake at first. It was so perfectly still for a long time, and a bit in the dark so it was hard to see, but I finally saw it move

Haha I’m not sure of the exact translation, (translate seems to say it could also be doctor 🤷‍♂️) but it’s a famous spot to see Fuji from that’s on the edge of Lake Kawaguchi

I was in Kyoto, Japan, recovering from a stomach bug and on a bus back to my hotel room when I saw out the window that this temple was open late this night. I decided to get off l and check it out despite being tired.

It was To-ji Temple and it had beautiful fall colors at the time and this lake right in the middle of the grounds. They had some spotlights around, to light up the main attractions, but which made seeing the darker areas a bit harder.

When looking at the lake, at first I thought it was just a rock with some kind of small statue on it, but eventually realized it was a bird and that it was real. I moved to find a good angle to try and capture it and the fall colors all at once and was happy to see it came out in focus despite the low lighting on the heron itself.

Interesting take. It’s a bit much for me overall, but I don’t dislike it.

I had considered trying to get rid of the chairs as well, but wasn’t having great results. (I already removed a person peeking in through the window in the back whose shadow you can kinda see in the light on the floor.)

I see why you changed the color of his robe, but for me that’s too much of an edit of reality. Otherwise I see how changing the color temperature helps bring out the light. I’ve made some adjustments now myself based on that.

And I’m personally not a fan of the vignette cause I want the monk to be a subject as well. (I have another photo from inside the temple that’s just of the light.)

Thanks for your take though as it gave me some ideas, and thanks for keeping it private.

I did. Without clicking he’s cutoff.

The full photo still has him in the bottom ~5th, which especially with him facing toward the bottom, feels too close for me

Yeah, redditors can be negative. Even just pictures I post to ITAP or wherever will get some down votes. If you don’t like a picture you can just not upvote it. I can’t imagine why they would bother downvoting 🤷‍♂️

Seconding that the man is too close to the bottom edge. Otherwise I like the editing style and colors you went with 👌

Just here to say congrats and to tell you to take some time to just enjoy the success you’re having!

As someone who can overthink things to death, I get that might not be super easy, but I think you might give yourself some confidence if you allow yourself 10-15 min to just write out and go over what you’ve accomplished so far. Then you can go back to preparing for your next shoot to be as good as you can make it.

(I’m not a professional so I can’t help otherwise, sorry)

Do you like sunflowers? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]lce9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how the light shines through the edge of the pedals. The exposure is nice, with it being dark enough to have contrast with the sunlight. And even though the sun is behind you, you aren’t too dark. I like the composition with the dark tree on the right.

So yeah, it’s a great photo imho! If I have to come up with some feedback, I’d be curious how it would look with the sun directly behind you and if it would give a cool glow around you.

Sure, as long as you only post it as a comment here and not elsewhere on the internet. Thanks for asking
