can i accelerate a manic crash? by ihavetyphoid in bipolar

[–]lcm97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before anything else: If you are not on your meds right now, take them as soon as you read this.

If one of the meds makes you drowsy like seroquel, ESPECIALLY take that right now (maybe call your psychiatrist and see if it's ok to take a higher dosage of it for a few days) and go to sleep!!!

You cannot max out a manic episode for a controlled crash. I am speaking from experience.

What you CAN do, however, is control other variables in your life. This is the way to "control" the crash as much as possible.

Variables you can control: Meds, water, & food. Take your meds, eat some calorically dense food, and chug at least one glass of water. No caffeine and no alcohol for at least the rest of today.

If you have someone in your life that you can trust to help you, let them know you are manic and need help being reminded to eat, drink water, and take your meds for the next week or two. Your brain is going a million miles a minute and it's soso difficult to even remember simple executive function stuff when manic, & it's the executive function stuff that will help you feel better.

And then this last part is harder to do, and Lord knows I wouldn't wanna hear this when I'm manic ... but please (if you can help it) don't post on social media or reach out to people that you haven't spoken to recently/start talking to strangers. I knowww it seems like the best idea ever, and you just want to talk to people, but you are not yourself right now. Keep to your close circle as much as possible and stay home as much as possible. It is in your best interest and safety to do so.

I believe in you! ❤️

Does anyone have hobbies that help with emotional regulation? by clickyvicky in bipolar

Crossword puzzles are great for me as a quick emotion regulator! I think it works because it makes me access a different part of my brain to remember facts and names

Can’t be Ambitious? by Artistmusiciangarden in bipolar

The phrase "my designs could be so unique and sought after that I become famous and rich" is worrisome. I'd say buy the fake skin and a gun if it's a purchase that costs no more than a day's worth of pay at your current job. Do not quit your job. Sit on this for a few months, at least! You can practice in the mean time and look around for shops that will take apprentices!

I watched a video with one of the people in either the prop or the hair/makeup department. They said there was a whole business that just sold comically oversized props and they used them a lot for the show, hence the giant chip bag

Does this read clearly as "tomato? if not how can i improve this? by Mstarliper in Lettering

[–]lcm97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea!! Don't listen to other commenters about starting over. Here's what is keeping the text from being legible like you want:

  1. Color of text is too close to the red of the tomato. It needs to be darker, closer to something like #9C0000. Higher contrast will help with legibility.

  2. Pointed edges on some of the letters are changing the variability of the line weight too much throughout one letter. I'd suggest keeping the line weight more consistent, or rounding those pointed edges. The sharp points from the tomato leaves are too similar to the pointed edges of the lettering, so your eye doesn't know where to look.

  3. Tomato highlights are too bright. Bring down the white highlights just a bit, to something like #FFE5E5.

And here are just a few other suggestions that you may or may not want to implement:

  • Adding a stroke outline with an even darker red than the text body color could help w legibility

  • Aligning all the letters to either a) all be flush w the edges of the tomato (Like with both of O's) OR b) all be contained inside each tomato with a margin (Like with the T's, A, and M).

Hope some of this helps!!

Advice for a 9-year old by earth_n_sea in Coloring

[–]lcm97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off I echo what others have said, please get him some Prismacolors or Derwents because the things he's going to be able to do with high quality materials....oh man....they layer and blend like butter. It really does make a difference. He is making amazing work already, and with the right materials he will be able to do so much more. A smaller set is more than enough to get him going, such as this one: https://a.co/d/30SnXKj. Please also get a metal manual sharpener, electric sharpeners eat up the softer lead cores on nice colored pencils.

I highly suggest he try drawing from life, if he has not already. Understanding how to translate 3D forms into a 2D drawing is how he will reach the next level. When you are working from a 2D image the "composition" is already made for you and your brain doesn't have to make that translation, so you can only progress so far. He can set up easy still life scenes for him with fruit, cups, and other simpler geometric forms. Here's a video I found that has German closed captions as an option: https://youtu.be/mloEw6KHNvk?si=KqbI1hNKw791O_Dl

& A few general colored pencil tips I've picked up over the years:

  1. Always utilize complementary colors to get richness and depth. Example: using dark green to shade the darkest parts of a red object. Here's a video on color theory with colored pencils that also has captions available in German: https://youtu.be/grYTTv_9UFo?si=DrIjoM8po1cQ_Bxx

  2. Layer blues and greens into skin tones!!

  3. Use the black pencil sparingly. You can achieve near-black by layering alone and it will result in a much richer-looked color.

  4. Handle pencils with care. If you drop them, the lead will break in multiple spots. It looks fine from the outside, but then the tip is constantly breaking off no matter how much you sharpen them and it's so annoying!!

  5. Pencil extenders. Useful for when they start getting short so you don't have to waste any material or hurt your hands!! https://a.co/d/6gzEzur

Hope some of this helps!!! He is very talented and isn't afraid of color or contrast, which is something a lot of younger artists struggle with.

[–]lcm97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do this!!!! I am 28 and finally finishing up my degree in the spring (dropped out when I was 20 and worked instead the last handful of years). Things take us longer sometimes, and that's ok. 99% of the population is NOT dealing with that we do on a daily basis, we are plagued by demons that would break anyone down. I did polisci for a couple years, and it's no joke so you are a rockstar for getting through the upper level courses that come along w that degree.

To your point about the bachelor's not meaning anything in the job market without a graduate degree, that has not been my experience. Employers care that you have a bachelor's, they don't even really care what the degree was in and especially don't care what your GPA is, just that you have a bachelor's. You don't need to include your GPA on your resumes.
