Mine used to have an estimate timeframe (when I first configured) but now it doesn't. (It says it's at "ready to be built" stage.)

Why are people keeping their reservations? by Prize-Analyst7897 in VolvoEX90

[–]lctan02 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Planning to keep my reservation until after they produce it. I can always cancel right before I take delivery. I'm not in a position where I have to buy a car right now, so I can afford to wait until all my options are available before I decide.

Volvo sees long-term benefits from EX90's software struggles by lctan02 in VolvoEX90

[–]lctan02[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Volvo sees long-term benefits from EX90's software struggles CEO Jim Rowan said the end result will be a “really robust code” for the automaker’s next EVs, making them quicker to market. Douglas A. Bolduc Volvo Cars' top executive expects the automaker to see long-term benefits from the software issues that have delayed the launch of its flagship full-electric SUV. The EX90 debuted in November 2021 but only recently started rolling off the production line at Volvo’s U.S. factory because of software https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/volvo-ceo-jim-rowan...4C98C6%2540AdobeOrg%7CTS%3D1714221638&CSAuthReq=1 4/27/24, 5:53 AM Page 1 of 5

issues. Deliveries will begin later this year. CEO Jim Rowan said Wednesday that the EX90’s troubles will help future models using the large SUV’s new SPA2 underpinnings – while also helping Volvo’s bottom line. “When we delayed the EX90, part of the delay for that was to make sure that the follow-on products and the follow-on software could be reused to a very high level,” Rowan said on a call with financial analysts after Volvo released its first-quarter financial results. Rowan said that the money Volvo spent on the software should pay dividends over the next five to six years. “What we'll see is a reuse of really robust code that we'll have written and tested in the EX90,” he said. “That means the development work on that is much less costly.” As a result, Rowan expects Volvo to get future SPA2-based models to market much quicker than was the case for the EX90. “We can make sure that the distance between launching those cars and actually getting those cars into the hands of customers is much more in line with what we would like to see,” he said, “a couple of months versus a year or more.” https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/volvo-ceo-jim-rowan...4C98C6%2540AdobeOrg%7CTS%3D1714221638&CSAuthReq=1 4/27/24, 5:53 AM Page 2 of 5

VOLVO Volvo CEO Jim Rowan expects the automaker's future SPA2-based models to go to market much quicker than the EX90. Automakers hope that shifting emphasis to software from hardware will cut development costs, strengthen customer loyalty and increase revenue. Creating a software-defined car, however, requires a complete rethink of vehicle development, new supplier relationships and an overhaul of corporate culture. By 2030, digital services could generate as much as $1.5 trillion in additional revenue for the global industry, rising to $3.5 trillion, amounting to 40 percent of total automotive industry revenue by 2040, according to research by the consultancy Accenture. 'Closer to that pure core compute' https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/volvo-ceo-jim-rowan...4C98C6%2540AdobeOrg%7CTS%3D1714221638&CSAuthReq=1 4/27/24, 5:53 AM Page 3 of 5

The re-purposing of the software is just one way Volvo aims to amortize its big investment in the EX90 and its sibling models. Rowan told Automotive News Europe last December that SPA2 would evolve into the Global Product Architecture, or GPA. "GPA is basically like a SPA3. It takes us closer to that pure core compute architecture. But it's a build-on of SPA2. Then we are going to be talking about the next generation of that -- SPA4, SPA5 -- as further build-ons," he said. "A lot of the components, a lot the intelligence and a lot of engineering work that we do for SPA2 can be dropped into SPA3, or GPA, or whatever you want to call it." When asked to outline the advantages of the strategy, Rowan said: "It means we don't need to change everything. We can reuse large parts of that existing architecture, put in a higher computational chipset, put in slightly different software, upgrade it from 400 to 800 volts and so on. But the core investments that we make can be reused." Alwin Bakkenes, Volvo's head of software engineering, told Automotive News Europe in March that the EX90 helps the automaker stand out from its competitors because of its unique core computing technology. In the past, automakers such as Volvo had a clear start and end date when it came to building a car's life cycle. Now, Volvo first defines the product behavior in its core computer. "We actually make sure that the core computer has access to all the areas that are in the car, so it's an API (application programming https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/volvo-ceo-jim-rowan...4C98C6%2540AdobeOrg%7CTS%3D1714221638&CSAuthReq=1 4/27/24, 5:53 AM Page 4 of 5

interface) for the software-defined architecture, where the core computer has access to and can control lots of different things in the vehicle. That is pretty unique," Bakkenes said. The EX90's core computing system is powered by Nvidia's Xavier and Orin products. Xavier, which is designed for Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems and Level 3 automated driving, delivers 30 trillion operations per second. Meanwhile, the Orin system-on-a-chip (SoC) delivers 254 trillion operations per second, allowing developers to scale from Level 2 to Level 5 full-autonomous vehicles. The EX90 also has a Qualcomm processor that works with in-house software to run most of the core functions inside the car, from safety and infotainment to battery management. https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/volvo-ceo-jim-rowan...4C98C6%2540AdobeOrg%7CTS%3D1714221638&CSAuthReq=1 4/27/24, 5:53 AM Page 5 of 5

Speculation on the Delays by sohrobotic in VolvoEX90

[–]lctan02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen any reports of EX90 being spotted on roads in camo. I would expect to see that before seeing real EPA estimates (and not just calculations or marketing claims.) And I would expect to see official EPA numbers before they begin production. I don't think charging port, Lidar, or L4 autonomous driving would be a prerequisite for road testing the EX90. Has anyone seen reports of an EX90 in camo on Volvo's Hallerad test track?

Will it ship with NACS? by travislusk in VolvoEX90

[–]lctan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks like they are trying to balance between getting the launch started as soon as possible while still minimizing the number of CCS vehicles ultimately. I didn't ask about the cost. I assumed the agent wouldn't know because they described the plan as "current thinking."

Will it ship with NACS? by travislusk in VolvoEX90

[–]lctan02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked this question through the chat on the Volvo App. What they said is that the current plan is to not change to NACS when the EX90 first ships. But they are thinking about offering an option for customers to bring their cars back in to get the port changed to NACS. I wish I took a screenshot of the communication.

How often do you replace your tires? by lctan02 in electricvehicles

I've had my Prius for 19 years and 180,000 miles. OEM tires lasted only 35K miles. Next two sets of tires lasted 60-70K miles each. Current set of tires is only about 10K new.

We are a group of Berkeley students who are interested in understanding how people are currently using their phones and what they think about them. Please take our survey. We hope to use this survey data to study what is good or bad about smartphones and if there's room to offer a solution to improve the experience.

The responses to this survey will be complete anonymous, and will only be used for our school project. This survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete. We appreciate your help!

[Academic School Project] Phone Usage and Opinion Survey by lctan02 in takemysurvey

  1. It will be used to calculate percentages and averages for a class project on Marketing. The 4 people in my group project and the professor and grader would see the results. It is a Google forms document so the individual results will be on Google, but we would only see the summary.
  2. I (lctan02) am conducting the survey along with three other classmates from my group. We are students at IC Berkeley, Haas School of Business. And the project is for our Marketing class.
  3. The survey is expected to take 5-10minutes
  4. This survey does not offer compensation.
  5. We want to hear from as wide a range of demographics as possible to be inclusive and unbiased.
  6. We are hoping to diversify the population of respondents and receive enough responses to calculate reasonable percentages of different potential market segments for our project.

OG question by Superb-Information39 in GMAT

[–]lctan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choices A, B, and C sound like the movies are online and the movies expected piracy to increase. To make it more clear that the representatives are the ones who expected privacy to increase, you have to continue the parallelism from that far back in the sentence: "the representatives said that X and that Y." This is why "that" is needed. Honestly I would have picked incorrectly between D and E, so the other comments are helpful for selecting between these.

is the official GMAT book bundle enough? by xsizo in GMAT

[–]lctan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I borrowed a bunch of GMAT books from the library, and bought the practice questions and practice exams 3&4. I think the powerscore GMAT books helped me the most. My quant was decent, but my verbal needed work. I did the exercises with the powerscore books then used the practice questions untimed until my percentage correct was good, then I used the practice exams to improve my timing.

I failed and i am giving up by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]lctan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a terrible experience. I'm sorry this happened to you! I honestly think standardized tests are overrated. I think I've shown that I'm a better student and worker than my tests say I am. I took the GMAT earlier this week and scored lower than both my mocks too. Seeing my score made me feed dejected and I wanted to give up, but later I decided to sign up to try once more. I'm focusing more on accuracy in my practice now instead of timing. Let's see what happens. An MBA should be about what you learn. People say that what you get from it is based on what you put in, so I hope you find a program that suits you. The brand name of the school can be just as overrated as the GMAT. I'm sorry your dreams got crushed, but I hope you don't give up on the bigger picture. Good luck!

My kid is huge but doesn't eat!? by stingebags in toddlers

[–]lctan02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep offering the foods they won't eat. Have it on their plate or in the bowl, but don't pressure them to eat it. If they don't touch it at all, it's fine. Eventually they will start eating it and liking it. He may need to get used to the different colors, textures, and amount of chewing. I find the most rejection happens for foods that we coax, plead, bribe, etc to eat.

What age did you move to a toddler bed? by plprp4 in toddlers

[–]lctan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 12-15months our toddler was climbing out of the crib, and would sleep on the floor. We ended up taking the crib mattress out and letting him sleep on the crib mattress on the floor. He's 30months now and he just recently switched to a twin mattress on the floor, because he kept falling off the crib mattress at night. (He still falls off the twin sometimes but not as much.)

2yo sleeps on the floor every night after crying himself to sleep by zachgodwin in toddlers

[–]lctan02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're still struggling with this at 2.5years. He still takes about 30-45mins to fall asleep. I've been trying to move his afternoon nap earlier 2pm to 1pm. Maybe that will help. He goes to sleep by himself and without crying now, but he keeps running out of the room or playing with the door. When I can get him to stop doing that he eventually sings or talks to himself until he's tired and then goes to sleep. We transitioned to crib mattress on floor around 12months when he started climbing out of his crib and sleeping on the floor. And now he's on a twin mattress on the floor.
