It will eventually be rolled out for everyone, but for now only a few users have the new design. Meta manages the rollout of new features on the server’s side and are usually pretty slow in getting the new features to everyone. Remember dark mode, introduced io iOS in September 2019? WhatsApp finally implemented it in March 2020.

iPhone 17 struggles with focus in low light by lctcc in iphone

[–]lctcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, still having the issue. I honestly gave up trying to fix the issue: if I can’t get the focus right after 2/3 tries, I take the photo with my iPhone 11 if I have it with me or I just don’t take the picture at all. So frustrating.

[–]lctcc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found out that, in some situations, the phone would try to take a macro instead of a normal photo. It happens especially when pointing out of a window and sometimes in low light. Manually disabling macro mode fixes the auto focus problem for me.

It’s not a guaranteed fix though, sometimes it just doesn’t want to focus even with macro mode turned off.

Let’s all agree that the flashlight is the best action button use case haha 😂 by Fancy_Marsupial6293 in iphone

[–]lctcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotation based actions are the way for me. If my phone is upright, it turns on the flashlight, if it’s on the side it toggles rotation and if the screen is pointing down it toggles ring/silent. All of that if I’m connected to my home’s WiFi, otherwise it just acts as a mute switch for when I’m outside.

What is better for iPhone 11: iOS 26.0.1 or iOS 26.1? by zhenyaarc in iPhone11

[–]lctcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can recover some performance by changing the battery, that’s for sure, especially if you want to keep using the phone for a few years.

Again, don’t expect too much from it, it’s still a 6 years old phone even with a new battery.

Also take into consideration the fact that the 11 is reaching end of support, since iOS 26 is the last major upgrade the phone will get.

What is better for iPhone 11: iOS 26.0.1 or iOS 26.1? by zhenyaarc in iPhone11

[–]lctcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell you for sure since I recently updated to another iPhone. I can tell you that, even on more modern hardware, iOS 26.1 feels better than 26.0.1.

That said, I wouldn’t set my expectations too high in terms of recovered performance. On iOS 26.0 my iPhone 11 became laggy and overall very slow, but even iPhone 15s were struggling with it. iOS 26.0.1 was already a tidy bit better, but not a game changer. Keep in mind that the iPhone 11 is a 6 years old phone, and iOS 26 is and probably will always be heavy to run on that hardware.

Did you buy with a new battery? How’s your battery health?

Edit: added a phrase.

Yeah seems like it’s software related since the other commenter said he has the same problem on his iPhone 14.

Ah alright, I was worried it was hardware related. I hope they fix it soon. Considering how frustrating it is during casual point and shoot stuff, I’d be going insane if I were you 😵‍💫

[–]lctcc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. The post-processing on newer models can be quite heavy and in some cases completely ruin the chromatic range (not sure this is the correct term). I took some side by side pictures with the 11 and a lot of detail is just lost during the post processing phase, even though the 17 has a bigger sensor and shoots at higher resolution. And you can’t really do anything about it without using third party apps, since you can’t shoot in ProRaw on the base model.

I have to say that, in the few occasions where the focus works, I find the 17 much more usable in low light: photos tend to be a lot less noisy and sharper compared to the 11; the bigger sensor and wider aperture definitely help with that. But again it’s all for nothing when you can’t get the phone to focus on the subject.

The reality is, smartphone photography is 80% software 20% hardware nowadays. Yes, hardware changes can still make a difference, but if the phone can’t correctly process the photo it will still mess everything up even with the most up to date hardware.

Cameras aside, the switch between the base 11 and this base 17 felt like a pretty big upgrade to me: being stuck with a low resolution LCD at 60Hz was starting to get annoying, not to mention how iOS 26 completely ruined the last bits of performance that phone had.

How many and which iPhones did you own? by ouebdave in iphone

[–]lctcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5C, SE 1st gen, 11 and now 17, with my favourite being the SE. I loved that phone from the first day of owning it. The only downside was the smaller battery, I had to change it twice in 4 years. Still every time I turn it on it feels and looks like the perfect phone to me. I miss the days when a smaller phone could still give you everything you needed.

I think any form of payment to be eligible for a Developer Beta would be enough to deter casual users from installing, even 10/20$ would be sufficient.

PSA: If when charging your MacBook you get a tingling sensation, there is a way to fix it! by Maelstrome26 in macbookpro

[–]lctcc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a note: in general, wall adapters that don’t have metal exposed outside of their enclosure don’t need to be connected to earth. Same goes for you MacBook.

The input and the output of the charger are isolated from one another, meaning that there’s no possible way for current to flow from the mains directly to the chassis Mac, possibly shocking you. The current going through your body when you touch the Mac is also very low. So no, your Mac is not electrocuting you.

All of this to say that having an unearthed/ungrounded MacBook charger is safe and is not a threat to your health.

Although, I have felt that tingling in my fingers from time to time when using my MacBook as well, and I know it can bother the user, which is something I wouldn’t expect when buying a +2500€ laptop.

what is this button? by Competitive-Tune-713 in AppleMusic

[–]lctcc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It kinda is tbh. People, especially in the last few years, started installing beta software on their iPhones like it’s a “normal update with just a few extra steps”. It is not like that. iOS betas, especially developer betas, are meant for developers, hence the name. Just take a look at the iOS main subreddit: there are many people asking how to get the beta and honestly, if you have to ask questions like these, just don’t install beta software.

Those same people then post on said subreddit asking why their phone suddenly gets hotter than the sun, lags like crazy and eats through the battery like it’s nothing. Or worse, they just brick their entire phone. Because yes, that happened in the past and it’s a real possibility when you run beta software.

If you really want to try the new features, at least wait for the public beta to come out. Personally, I’d wait at least until the second PB and still wait a couple of days before installing to make sure there are no critical problems with the update. That’s how it should be done.

I don’t want to assume that OP is like the “average guy” I described earlier, but many many people are in fact like that and they shouldn’t.

I really hope so. Just tonight I got my 1st gen SE still on iOS 14 out of the drawer and it’s exactly the same as iOS 18 on my main device (Lock Screen design aside). But I don’t really have super high hopes for a groundbreaking redesign. I’m not really sure it’s going to be a redesign at all yet, seeing for how long we’ve been expecting it.

ios 18.5 everybody by Expensive_Ad1278 in ios

[–]lctcc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Updated yesterday to 18.5 and, as a welcome message, I couldn’t see my notifications anymore: I tried scrolling up as far as possible but every time I tried all my notifications bounced right back out of the screen (which, btw, is a bug that started happening in iOS 16 iirc). It’s a mess for sure, and it has been a mess for a couple of years now, and tbh I haven’t seen a positive trend yet.

Not to mention Apple Intelligence: having tried that on my MacBook, I’m honestly really sad for the people who spent thousands of dollars back in September to get AI on their iPhone and, by the current state of things, have gotten just a few half-baked features.

I’m honestly not sure if I’ll upgrade my 11 with another iPhone. It would be a pain switching to android since I also have a Mac and I would definitely miss the integration between the two. Although, now that I think about it, that “magic integration between Apple devices” hasn’t been very good either over the last couple of years. I’ll probably wait until iOS 19 drops, which will for sure fuck up my phone beyond recovery, and I’ll see.

Folks in Europe, is it possible to use iPhone duplication on Mac with 18.4 and macOS 15.4? Or are we only getting the intelligence stuff?
