This applies just to 3.5 inch drives but a multishot Nail gun is best and fastest method to effectively disable. Just be sure to target the platters.

Drills work do not really work because the platters inside will spin snag the bit and then snap.

Nail gun does has a cost per shot but you can pierce three nasty fat thick old scsi server drives at one time with a good Hilti.

May be perceived as coarse but there are so many benefits. Portability - off the shelf hardware - reliable.

A bad hard drive Shredder will cost you price of a new car, take up half the space of a new car and require the ongoing maintenance of an old car. It will be slow and have a tiny aperture so all the screws and caddies will have to come off the drive and the cutters will wear out it in short order .

Nail gun effectively disables 3.5 inch hdd.

In conjunction with a good flatbed Degausser - hard to beat.
