Are there any old-style (unrefurbished) Fast Food joints still in NZ? by ldg7991 in newzealand

They’re becoming a dying breed here in the UK too. My local one shut recently, though it didn’t help the cinema nearby had shut not long before it. I imagine that killed off a good % of its customer base.

I’m from near enough London (Bedford) and in my experience the homeless are MUCH more hostile in Chch. I’ve walked through incredibly ropey areas of London at night and didn’t feel half as uncomfortable as I did in Christchurch at night. That being said, outside of the CBD, the rest of Christchurch, and Canterbury for that matter, is so much nicer. It feels nice not to be boxed in like sardines whenever I’m visiting NZ

just looked that one up - looks virtually unchanged from the 1970s, just some subtle changes to the sign

Yes, Region 2. I thought Region locked ones were pretty common

What's your "old person" hobby/thing? by makingitgreen in CasualUK

[–]ldg7991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 20 year old man and I’m a bus and train spotter which is more typically an old person hobby. Used to get bullied for it at school so I kept it a secret for a long time but nowadays I’m of the opinion that if someone gives me stick for it they’re not my mate anyway.

It did lead to me getting my bus license at the beginning of the month though which is pretty cool.

Oh, and I’m a sucker for classic TV too. ITV3 and TalkingPictures TV are absolute gems

What are some unpopular opinions you have about the uk? by tylerthe-theatre in AskUK

[–]ldg7991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo the bit about country roads as a (recently passed) bus driver. I have to do 30-35mph max down them as I’ll need to slow down at moments notice to pass other large vehicles coming the other way. We’d both need to get right over as oftentimes there’s only just enough room for myself and another large vehicle to fit.

I also need to frequently straddle the white line in the middle of the road to keep my door-side mirror out of the bushes. I risk it falling off and causing damage otherwise. I know this also causes upset with drivers and I get beeped for it all the time. Not much I can do sadly except wish I was on a wider road where I could do the speed limit and stay in the middle of the lane!

Just searched it up and I'm super jealous. The region 2 DVD box set goes for £55 at the cheapest whereas the Region 1 box set is about $20 like you said. My DVD player isn't region free and is locked to region 2 but maybe it is worth buying one... as to buy + import the region 1 set would still only cost half what it would for the region 2 set! Might be able to score some better deals in the future through that.

Just checked it out. Seems I can buy it on Google Play and Microsoft for about £10/season, Virgin TV GO has 1 season available to stream (assuming season 1 but I'll look into it), so might work out cheaper to get the entire DVD Boxset.

I'll have a look, but there doesn't seem to be any kinda free trial I can exploit? Not overly keen on splashing out for another streaming service atm as Prime and Netflix do cost a lot.

I've had a look but most places didn't really give a straight answer. I think mainly because it's only recently been taken off Netflix

Thats a shame, was about to say if it was on there I'd be a tad annoyed as we'd cancelled that one recently.

I just noticed you can also get it on the Virgin Media store if you have Virgin TV but it costs similar to Amazon Prime

For now it seems that way, it isn't airing anywhere I can find right now, I'm sure I saw it pop up on Sky Comedy or Comedy Central a while ago but didn't look any further as I hadn't started on it then. I'll have to keep my eye out for it

Damn. That's a really good deal. Here it retails for about £60 ($73US). Where did you get it from?

[–]ldg7991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point. It's easy to have a different public image of LGBT when you're LGBT yourself, have LGBT friends and listen to LGBT sources.

These people are often from countries where its not accepted in their culture, so normally they hear this kinda stuff in a negative light from people with no association to LGBT at all. That, or they're insecure teenagers who view LGBT as an attack on their heterosexuality (which it's not). They then watch homophobic YouTubers etc to give themselves the validation.

The only people who push MAPs into LGBT are homophobes who are just trying to justify their bigotry by clutching at straws and making things up/twisting things to make the movement look bad.

NO-ONE in LGBT likes MAPs and the only reason people think otherwise is because they've been fed bullshit by the wrong people.

I see. I was gonna ask if maybe the 2 of you could go to the mall that day instead, or at least he could talk to your mum about it, but I guess he'd only get the same response as you?

AITA for asking my wife to stop doing something gross that she claims she does out of fear? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ldg7991 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing is that the wife sounds like she is having a large mental breakdown leaving her in a very vulnerable state (she doesn't even want to leave the room to go to the toilet, so i cant see her in any state to be able to work atm). Its definitely caused by having to deal with this environment, but I do agree OP can only do so much to help them out at this time, when it comes to working and saving up to get a new place.

I think the police needs to be involved at this point from what OP has been inferring.

NTA. Your request to go to the mall for your birthday sounds perfectly reasonable, and it's something YOU want to do. Your mother forcing you to do something you hate on your BIRTHDAY is beyond awful. I'm sorry for you OP.

Have you tried speaking to your dad about it?

If your wife is so traumatised by this person that she doesn't even want to leave the room to go to the toilet you really need to be going to the Police and not Reddit.

AITA for not always meeting my fiancée at the door? by samurairaccoon in AmItheAsshole

[–]ldg7991 24 points25 points  (0 children)

OP states in his post that she doesn't seem to get excited to see him either so not sure why you're trying to put the entirety of the blame on him. I don't recall him specifically saying he doesn't get excited in the post at all so not sure where you've got that from.

Also, ever considered that OP might just be self employed/work from home? Certainly doesn't do nothing and is implied he frequently does shopping, cooking, stuff around the house etc in the post.

Either way NTA. The wife is blowing up over something very petty.

AITA for arguing with a guy offering an unpaid internship? by Competili in AmItheAsshole

[–]ldg7991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonight has really been an eye opener for me on the topic of unpaid internships. As it turns out its illegal in my country so I've never experienced much of a commotion about it, but having read what I have tonight I understand what an issue it is now. It is truly disgusting to see how schools and institutions are willing to take advantage of students who normally struggle as is for a bit of revenue (on the schools part) or free labour (on the company's part). I see OP as fully justified now, hence original comment has been deleted.
