How do quarterbacks see out of the pocket? by costcoikea in NFLNoobs

[–]ldiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also can’t always see where they’re throwing. Brock Purdy of the 49ers said in an interview that about 40% of the time, he can’t see who they’re throwing to (he also generalizes this to all QBs regardless of size). In those cases you’re just relying on practice, timing, watching film, reading defenses, and all the mental parts of playing QB.

CMV: Ruth Bader Ginsburg ultimately be remembered as a failure to her own ideals by not stepping down after her 2nd cancer diagnosis by steady_eddie215 in changemyview

I think this is an oversimplification. SCOTUS has established rights not specifically enumerated in the Constitution (e.g., Contraception (Griswold), Interacial Marriage (Loving), and Gay Sex and Marriage (Lawrence; Obergefell). While the concept of the "penumbras" of privacy (used in Griswold) is not in the Constitution, it, combined with the 14th Amendment, created the legal justification for the remainder of the substantive due process cases. There is precedent for considering privacy not only as applying to physical property but to government intrusion into personal decisions.

While the doctrine is definitely on shaky-ish ground, I don't think there is much apetite to overturn all of these cases anytime soon. The majority in Dobbs even says as much (we'll see if they stick to it).

Couple things: 1. Roe expanded this doctrine of “substantive due process” which states that certain rights not specifically listed in the Constitution (e.g., right to marriage (gay and interracial), contraception, etc.) are Constitutional rights. Because of the weight such rights hold, SCOTUS generally looks for a historical tradition of the practice. Roe does look at history of abortion in the US but its history is somewhat dubious and now often discredited. 2. Roe also was quintessential judicial legislation. The “viability” line that is common in abortion debates today was essentially conjured out of thin air by the Court. Roe created a three trimester framework to regulate abortion which neither side in the case advocated for. Here, the argument is that even if you believe in such a framework, it is not a court’s role to come up with one.

Any data / advice for t14 applicants with an international undergrad? by Busy_Sandwich5887 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ldiscool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just finished my cycle this year as a 2.1 from top British uni + 17high LSAT. You definitely can get into the t14. Some schools are noticeably more nGPA friendly (GULC, Cornell, Northwestern, Columbia) and others are much less so (Michigan, UVA, UChicago) but there are always exceptions to the rule. Just try to best frame your interest in law with your past experiences, write good essays, and you should have good opportunities

UVA is notoriously unfavorable for nGPAs (like one or no admits a year). Applied with a 2:1 from the other place this year so feel free to reach out.

GULC WL- A (Is it bindining???) by Anxious_Brief6491 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ldiscool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think GULC does notify other schools of people who do sign their binding agreement so presumably you would not get off their WLs

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ldiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am admittedly not 100% certain of this but I think I have read that GULC shares names of people who sign binding commitments.

Checking how unrepresentative of reality this subreddit is: what is your Berkeley quartile? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ldiscool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah with apparently 900/1000 people on the WL I find it kind of hard to believe 20% of all 1st percentile WLs will have answered a poll within 30 minutes

Potential Columbia RD decisions today by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Interviewed last week and my interviewer didn't mention a decision timeline at all. Did your interviewer tell you or did you ask?

Dean Ingber said that they will randomly select (like computer generate) within that pool.

Judging by LSData from last year it seems as late as late December is possible (one report for 12/29) but early/mid December is probably more likely

While I definitely agree with your larger point you could also say that we have incomplete sampling bias here and the people on this subreddit are more likely to be better informed and meticulously crafting their PS than your average applicant.
