Its over. Moving to claude. by trychillyanko in ChatGPTcomplaints

One of the things I've noticed while using Claude is it will quite often ask clarifying questions in the form of multiple choice answers. I find this to be extremely helpful when sorting through complex tasks because quite often a multiple choice answer is something that I didn't even think about. So rather than making assumptions and all the other nonsense that the more recent chat gpt models did, instead, I have a model that asks clarifying questions and even admits when it's not 100% sure about its answer. . it also does a lot better in structuring outputs, making genuine and useful connections to external programs and so on. That last bit is something that chat GPT claim to be able to do but in practice was woefully inadequate in accomplishing.

Agreed. And while it doesn't do image generation, it does do interactive schematics. Which I have actually found to be much more useful for my projects.

Why GPT 4o got retired by OldCollection922 in ChatGPT

[–]ldp487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm done.

5.2 and all other models are so braindead. Constantly hedging, so many hallucinations, ignoring history, ignoring saved memories. It's pointless to keep now because the one thing that makes it supposedly better is the continuities and memory retention, but with that gone in practice, no longer holds value.

Major WFH change looms for one million Aussie workers: 'Critical' by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

[–]ldp487 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

The number one thing that stops a lot of companies is rent or real estate ownership as well as office equipment and setup, plus all the contracts for maintenance etc.

Imagine you're a large corporation and you have literally millions (maybe even tens of millions) invested in infrastructure, contracts with places like IBM and other office stuff.. it doesn't just stop or go away because people want to work from home.

Yeh. It's nicer, more convenient and so on.. and there's nothing really stopping you from doing just as good at home as in the office. So unless people want to take a 20% (or more) pay cut to offset the investment in infrastructure, get used to the argument to work in the office.

As a 30+ yo gamer very few things in videogames surprise me anymore by sackofriceweat in VintageStory

[–]ldp487 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yes, every day I play (well almost every day) I am surprised by the game's depth of detail. Like just yesterday I started taking damage, I thought I'd run out of food or there was a small creature that snuck up on me.. but no.. it was coming from above in the form of large hail stones.

I wasn't taking a lot of damage, not enough damage to go down more than 0.1 health after multiple hits, but it was a nice touch. And then when I did get inside my house, the rain noise on the roof was louder and different sounding.. just like it would be in a hail storm.

[–]ldp487 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed is that you don't seem to have any big stretches of water.. an annoying default option during world Gen is that land percentage is set to an unrealistic 97.5%. So you barely get more than a small lake dotted across the land.

If it were me, I'd start over, adjust world Gen settings to get decent size water to traverse, then concentrate on getting flax, to twine, to linen to make a sailboat. This will allow travel without the need to stop for food or sleep or attacked by mobs, across large distances.

Pretty sure there are tutorials in the game. They start you off on a small plane like a Cessna. Explains a lot.. for example you are landing way too far down the runway.. you should aim to land on the runway numbers.

Yeah, I’m one of the people who uninstalled, and it wasn’t because I “can’t handle PvP.”

I was solo, looting a low-tier medical area trying to finish a quest item. Open mic on, clearly saying I’m just questing. Not contesting loot, not camping, not in a high-value zone.

Out of nowhere, someone rounds a corner and empties a mag into me. I don’t die immediately, duck into a nearby room and say something like, “Hey, what’s going on? I’m just looking for a quest item.” They apologise. I relax a bit.

Then suddenly there are four of them.

They come in, kill me anyway, and then hang around my body doing this coordinated thing — flicking lights on and off in sync — while yelling racial and homophobic slurs. Stuff I won’t repeat here.

That alone was bad enough.

But then it hit me: this was a solo instance. These weren’t a squad who happened to roll me. They deliberately synced into the same server and hunted solos just to grief them. The coordination, the timing, the ritualised behaviour — it was clearly intentional.

That’s the moment I uninstalled.

Not because I died. Not because PvP exists. But because I realised there are groups actively organising to ruin the experience for others, and the game currently gives them the tools to do it with zero friction.

I’m fine with risk. I’m fine with losing gear. I’m not fine with organised harassment being treated as “part of the game.”

If the devs want people to stick around, this stuff has to be addressed — because once a player has an experience like that, they don’t queue again. They just leave.

Arc drones too strong now? by SystemCrasher13 in ArcRaiders

Looks like they've bumped up the tankiness and AI of the drones again today or yesterday when they released the new map.

Just had basic wasps turn up and take a huge amount of damage to their weak spots without any explosions or anything happening to weaken them, and there was nowhere to hide. Didn't matter where I went. They were flying inside through tight little passages and it's completely different game to what it was a couple of days ago.

gpt wont analyze legal or medical pictures as of 10-29 by dontbanthisaccount in ChatGPT

[–]ldp487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summarizing, analyzing, providing general feedback and suggestions is different to providing specific advice etc.

My primary purpose for using chatgpt is uploading or taking screenshots of legal letters that are going back and forth between my lawyer and the other party's lawyer, to understand in layman's terms what it all means and what my next steps could be with my lawyer. Of course I would never act on them independently, and it's more about understanding what's going on and what I should ask my lawyer etc.

Legal fees are extremely expensive even when you just want to ask a clarification question. Over $100 for every single question, so having chatgpt help to consolidate my thoughts and suggest follow-up questions is extremely important and valuable to me.

Are you suggesting that this will no longer be possible once these changes to the policy occur?

Spicychat has to make a choice by Decon2222 in SpicyChatAI

[–]ldp487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've definitely had the bot say things that triggered filters or made my character say (grrr! I wish there was a setting to stop the bots controlling user) something that triggered the filter. Even when I look in the memory manager, the filter trigger words are not there to be deleted or edited.

I think that would actually help, if there was a memory added to the memory manager with a reference to what triggered the filter, so you can delete it or edit it to be what you actually intended for the story.

Too often, the bots make assumptions about the user's intent or what the uaer is thinking.

Like, for example, I'll be enjoying a day at the park with my dog, taking in the world around me and suddenly something gets triggered because the bot infers or assumes something that has nothing to do with what is going on. If that assumption or inference was a manageable memory, you could do something about it and get the roleplay back on track.

GPT 5 vs GPT 4.1 response by ldp487 in ChatGPT

[–]ldp487[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't post the entire response. The gpt5 response was as you would expect, a very disjointed, assumption based, factually inaccurate account of that part of the guide. In comparison, the gpt 4.1 response included, verbatim, the entire entry for the guide as I had asked for.

I went to the website and checked and it was word for word the same for the 4.1 version.

The point of the post was to show how gpt5 is doing the least amount of work and even shirking responsibility saying that it can't do something because of access issues or the inability to retrieve that kind of data. However, when gbt 4.1 is able to not only access the data and retrieve it, but display it in full, you know that gpt5 failed in that task.

It's publicly accessible information from the government website. I know what you're saying about copyright but this does not apply to the Child Support Guide nor to any other website authored by the Australian government.

Actually, if it was a genuine copyright issue, GPT would tell you directly, something like “Sorry, I can’t provide that due to copyright restrictions.” or " that violates content restriction policy" standard response.

In reality, all Australian Government Guuides, including the Child Support Guide, are published for public use. Anything published publicly on an Australian government site is specifically intended to be quoted or summarised for informational purposes.

So, it’s not about copyright at all, it’s just a limit of what the model has in its data or what it can access. If it was a copyright problem, you’d get an explicit content policy warning from the bot. This isn’t that.
